Heidel_Kakao Posted December 3, 2017 Author Posted December 3, 2017 Thanks for all your comments It makes it feel even more epic! I just arrived in Turku as it took longer than expected due to a woefully small petrol tank and stopping to take photos. This converted hotel ship is where I am staying tonight, I am going in search of a bar now for a much needed drink and will find one with WiFi and upload today's photo dump. I've done about 300 miles today and the car is everything I hoped it would be and the sound it makes is awesome privatewire, catsinthewelder, RobT and 29 others 32

Mr_Bo11ox Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Holy fucking GWACK, that is something else!!!!! Amazing work HK!!! Heidel_Kakao 1
barrett Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 That is absolutely superb: the colour, the hub caps, everything. That wide shot of the petrol station is brilliant, too. There's nothing quite like a long-distance European collection in an untested 50 year old smoker. Bliss. Heidel_Kakao and Junkman 2
RobT Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Bloody hell what a winner, have a great trip! You kept that one quiet or did I miss something? Heidel_Kakao 1

quicksilver Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I have no words to describe the epicness of this. I've just put all my hats on so I can take them off to you. eddyramrod, richardmorris, Heidel_Kakao and 4 others 7

Popular Post Heidel_Kakao Posted December 3, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted December 3, 2017 Ok so what have I actually purchased? It's not a Toyota Crown but is something even rarer, a 1969 Nissan Cedric which in Europe was sold as a Datsun 2000. This example is not exactly as it left the factory nearly 50 years ago though, originally it would have had a 2 Litre L20A straight six, manual steering, manual column shift transmission and drum brakes all round. It now has a 2.6 L26 and three speed auto from a 1976 Cedric 330, power steering, MSA exhaust manifold, twin 240Z carbs overhauled by Ztherapy in the USA, front ventilated discs from a diesel 430 Cedric and disc brake rear axle from the same with uprated brake booster to suit. Oh and a 2 way electric sunroof from a Mercedes 190, that's most of it I think. So sensitive upgrades using all Nissan parts that make it much more usable and all mods I would probably have thought about doing but never actually bothered, apart from the sunroof maybe as I never use the things but hey I will let that slide It drives nicely and sounds great when you floor it from idle. Steering is very light but suits the wafting cruiser vibe it has going on, this ain't no sports car lol. Wideband 02 sensor gauge lives in the ashtray, good thing I no longer smoke It runs a bit rich at idle as demonstrated here but when moving sits at the sweet spot of 14.7 This is why I love wagons, boot full of spares and I had to leave doors and bonnet behind but may come back one day and get them. Junkman spec lights, look cool but useless for their intended purpose. Sagging at the rear! I own a car called Cedric, my life is now complete. Original cam cover lies, it is a 2600cc lump! CreepingJesus Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I'm just trying to imagine that sound... It sounded so simple last week: "I'm going to Finland to buy a Datsun Cedric" Ok then.  It's a looker mind you, and I had no idea there was an estate! Well bought, sir. Round of applause. eddyramrod, mk2_craig and Heidel_Kakao 3
danthecapriman Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 That's a seriously nice looking car. I guess they weren't sold over here at all? Heidel_Kakao 1
eddyramrod Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I'd be surprised if they were, Dan, I'm sure I would have remembered.  Excellent purchase, epic trip. Dan: you and I now have to do the Euro trip we were talking about! danthecapriman 1
Heidel_Kakao Posted December 3, 2017 Author Posted December 3, 2017 Back in time for Cannock? This is absolutely amazing. Make sure you take LOTS of photos. Yeah will miss dinner Friday night but if it all goes to plan the Cedric will be in attendance Saturday That's pretty special. Looking forward to hearing how the story began... Back story will be done when home   Well out of my league, I wouldn't go that far on a plane both ways. Only three hours from Gatwick to Helsinki then a four hour train journey to the sellers house Bloody hell what a winner, have a great trip! You kept that one quiet or did I miss something? People I met in person knew as I couldn't resist blurting it out but I kept it quiet otherwise for maximum impact, I don't really do suspense lol That's a seriously nice looking car. I guess they weren't sold over here at all? No we got them in the UK, I have a USB thumb drive from the seller with much photos including a picture of a UK estate, I checked the reg and it's been SORN for years so when mine lands it may well be the only one in the UK. It is/will have been the only one in Finland. eddyramrod, Junkman, Conrad D. Conelrad and 3 others 6
Matt Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Should we just shut down collection threads until at least the end of the year? Nobodies topping this for a while. Heidel_Kakao 1
Dick Cheeseburger Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Sublime. Without asking numbers, I assume it was financially worth making a big roadtrip to buy something as special as this? Heidel_Kakao and trigger 2
Heidel_Kakao Posted December 3, 2017 Author Posted December 3, 2017 Sublime. Without asking numbers, I assume it was financially worth making a big roadtrip to buy something as special as this?It cost approx 1200 times what I paid for my Proton..... That is without the cost of collection which I am treating as a holiday lol. No idea what it would be worth in the UK assuming there was actually one for sale. At this point I have no intention of ever selling this car so cost is almost irrelevant, my thought process was, I want this, I can afford this, I am having this! Heidel_Kakao Posted December 3, 2017 Author Posted December 3, 2017 http://www.curbsideclassic.com/automotive-histories/curbside-classic-nissan-cedric-when-the-pupil-becomes-a-master/Â This blog post was nice to read while waiting to collect the car. It's the first vehicle I have owned styled by Pininfarina though mine is post facelift which Nissan did themselves. Lacquer Peel 1
bezzabsa Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I would not be parking that where the Proton is!!!!!!
