Sorry for late delivery of pictures, we have been having way too much fun crossing rural Hampshire, which is The Land That Vodafone Forgot.

Handover shot...

One of those chaps is happier than the other - sorry Dan - and I can understand why, this Granada is a flipping excellent car. Superb motorway cruiser - very quiet, super-smooth, really comfortable and more than capable of keeping up with the M4 warriors.

Double bonus pez shot:

Great to see it Skizzer! And I'm glad you've got back ok.

How was it all that way then? Any issues?

That run will be the furthest it's been in a long time, probably did it some good!

Oh, and I look a right twat in that photo!!

I'm still on the way! Running absolutely spot on so far but I'm not going to jinx it by saying any more. Have stopped to get the wine gums out of the boot.

If you think that photo's unflattering, wait until you see the one of me attempting to breed with your fabulous Mercury.

Crikey, Skizzer must have yammed it like a fuckah if he is home already, but maybe he is posting while he rolls, which would be easy to do as the Granada is so smooooooooth and easy to drive.  EDIT, aha, he is.

I got home at 915 PM, but had to devour supper before coming on here with some photos.

All comments about sweaty bollocks etc much appreciated, and we can talk more of that another time.  I am a bit knackered, so will just say that the car is simply fabulous in every way, that Dan is a diamond dude, and that the whole caper was enormously entertaining.  More details tomorrow.

Some pics -

Note bonus park like a cunt photo.  Compare Skizzer's impeccable parking of SD1 with poor effort by some wazzock in a Ford.

Moar PRON.

Seven litre V8 of astonishingly awesome Mercury, plus equally chunky and impressive ancillaries.

NB: Granada was not overheating, despite temp needle position in shot of dashboard (taken while stopped in traffic) - temp gauge does funny stuff when lights on.   Dan told us about this, and gave an excellent briefing on the car and its (very few) snags and foibles.   He has looked after it very well.  Being a top geezer, he threw in loads of useful spares and a cover.

Rover didn't overheat, but spaffed some coolant out of header tank every time we stopped. I will book it in for the HGF repair v soon, as mobile mech's arm not strong enough to do it for another six weeks (he had an op).  He was at my place today fixing busted O2 Sensor nonsense on X Type (modern cars: fuck you!)  and making progress on Dolomite water pump and so on.

The Granada is totally fit for daily driving duties  I would have confidence in that car to drive to Siberia and back, and it is so fast that you could do that in a day or two.    Not too bad on pez, either, for a big old thing with a 2.8 V6 and a phat carb.

Suits and sweatshirts? Its all very civilised. Is AutoShite becoming gentrified?

I have to say, when I saw these photos I was so shocked I nearly spat out the 2003 shiraz I was drinking.

The Granada has a fancy trip computer and various ceiling mounted controls and readouts, very aeroplane style. It is mucho toyed-up, and almost all the toys work.

We did not figure out how to work the computer, and I did not try to figure out the scary modern stereo.  Here is the Rover's trip computer showing us the MPG on the way down.   Photo not showing this clearly, but the reading was 107 MPG.    Who needs a diesel econobox when you can get 100 plus MPG from an old fashioned straight six 2.6 pezzer with two guzzly SUs on it?  After all, it's a computer, and computers never lie, eh?

Note also oil pressure gauge of borkedness - reading is fixed and never varies, because of some electro fault.  The low coolant light had just come on, but went out again in a bit.

Granada oil pressure gauge and voltmeter work fine - only the temp gauge plays up.

But I look like a fat twat.  I blame dodgy camera effects, and not pies at all.

There are so many good photos from this thread that could end up in The Calendar, but with a bit of cropping, this one is excellent:

Edit: viewing the RESET in the corner there makes it perfect, no cropping required.

The wires tell me that the Skiz made it home on the stroke of midnight, just before turning into a pumpkin.

The Granada has STICKAZ.  One says "Granada Mk 1 and 2 Drivers' Guild".  Not club, mark you, but GUILD. So there.

Another says "Keep your Granny Alive".  This is probably better than a sticker saying "Get inside your Granny".

If this ever goes to chez_breadvan please let me know so I can pop over and have a cheeky lick... (via sydenham as the bastard direct road is closed, the xantia is filthy with these single track back roads!)

Home safely :-)

Really impressed with the Granada, which I was expecting to be a charming but rather baggy old thing but it isn't at all - it feels completely sorted mechanically as though it had done a third of its 187k miles. It feels like it could just go on and on and is a massive credit to you Dan.

What a fabulous day out. Thanks gents..

This post has turned out bloody ace, Granada saved from ovaling, a decent guy saved from giving it away for fuck all and a great collection caper, plus my mk2 Granada passed* its MOT on Thursday for extra win

Interested that you describe it as 'surprisingly fast' though, because mine could never be described as such. Surprisingly slow, or surprisingly thirsty are both valid but fast...definitely not!

*passed after I fixed the thing it failed on, which was something I'd replaced to prevent it failing it's MOT

Dear Junkman

It is with very greatest regret that I must inform you that the interior light fails to come on when you open the driver's door.  Accordingly, and in accordance with your standing orders, the car has been weighed in for a bag of wine gums.

Scrap it.

Oh.

You did.

I'm still insanely jealous. Mostly with Skizzer's choice of leisure wear, but also about the conveyances involved.

Looking forward to seeing it later in the year.

We have very low expectations and are awfully easy to impress.

That is actually one of the best pictures ever shown on here.
