Shite and other aspirations for 2017?

As the blood alcohol level rises and the BMI tips 75% I start thinking of the year to come.

What things car related or otherwise do you want to happen in 2017?

For me I want to sell the 100HP panda. I've fixed the dodgy door and my mate is painting it next week, which should hopefully make it slightly more saleable.

I want to sell my P6. i never use it and can't see myself getting the time to do it justice.

Get the Cortina back on the road! All the welding is finished I've got some reasonably trivial stuff to do it and it could technically be back on the road. I want to fit electronic ignition and a new fuel pump before I do this. I really want it to be done by March. I'm not even going to joke about it, it is going to be March!

I want to get something I can take to knockhill. I think I'm going to go for a v6 MG ZS. They're supposed to handle well, are quick and still cheap as chips. The Panda and P6 will need to go first to make way for it.

Ideally a face lift one even it they're probably are slightly worse than the earlier ones.

Non car related I want to put a new kitchen in the house, learn how to develop applications in Swift so I can build my own IOS apps, have some kind of job role change. Lose 2 stone, fly to the moon, move to a higher level of consciousness,  win the lottery etc etc.

Anyone else?

For 2017, I'm hoping to be able to go get the Volvo 740 I've been offered and get that back on the road. Hopefully it'll prove to be as good as I think it is and I'll be able to make a really nice car out of it.

2017 should also be the year my Capri comes back after a full no expense spared bare metal restoration. There's still a lot of work to go but sometime later next year should be about realistic!

I can't wait to see it all finished and wearing it's nice new paint job.

And I'm also hoping to have the Mercury out on the road and in use an awful lot more this coming year. It's about as good as it ever can be mechanically now so no excuses. Once spring arrives...

I'm in the process of buying a new house. If all goes to plan I reckon we could be in by the end of February.

Double garage and driveway space for seven cars! I'm very excited.

Number one priority will be to get the Beetle back on the road. I'll then have no reason to not buy more chod.

No fleet swappage is envisaged.   However I am going to try and manage more than 15 weekends away in my mobile toilets next year.

Probably 2017 will see my perfectly working slightly dull repmobile getting swapped for something unknown and less suitable.

Because I'm a moron, of course.

Plan is to spend some actual money on a car for a change as the BX is deserving of such things. I have toyed with the idea of then putting it into storage (if I can afford) and getting something mid 90s as a daily, for example a Xantia or TD ZX (although both will probably have to wait until I've been driving a year).

If anyone knows the best place near Reading to get a BX done up, then PM me. I know about Chevronics but it's not exactly local.

Buy a cheapo 4x4 tow car

Sort and sell the red MR2 turbo

Break the blue MR2 turbo

Have my forged MR2 turbo dyno'd and the boost controller set up for itro 23psi/310bhp

Get some work done on my RS Turbo

Keep buying, fixing, breaking and selling cars and keep saving for a house.

I'll probably not have the money to do anything extravagant so I'll aim to get the rear end sorted on the van and get it through its test. Rear axle will be either repaired or replaced, I will find the God Damn humming noise on the over run and the other odd noise it makes like a tyre scrubbing when turning right. Then bit by bit the body will get fixed up. Hopefully the incompetent fools at the DVLA will sort out logbook for kia so that can be weighed in. I'd like to find a really cheap project if possible too.

Simply to find out how I can cure my breathing issues.

Because if this doesn't see me off, the steroids probably will.

Still suffering mate? Really hope you pick up soon. Is it bad asthma or other bronchial related?

Want to sell the Pug206sw and replace with a cheap diesel zx or xsara estate. Hope to start the groundworks for a garage in 2017 hopefully too

The Capri has to see the road this year, painted or not........

I spent most of this year wanting to own something with more than four cylinders. Came close to buying a shabby XJ40, but the MOT history (what a superb website) and a complete muppet of a seller made me run away. I bought the Honda instead. The three vehicular wants that are currently most strong are Ami 6 (doubt I can afford one now), V6 or V8 something (or five pot at a push) or an electric car. Knowing me, I'll buy yet more four-cylinder engined, utterly dreadful motor cars.

All the ones that won't happen:

Lambretta

Scenic RX4

Rover Streetwise

City Rover

Some sort of SWB 4x4

VW to go bust

And one of these, which I won't be able to afford

Well, I qualify later in 2017, so might have a bit more money coming in, so I'm going to split into pre September (skint) and post September (marginally less skint)

Pre September:

Sell Leon

MOT and use 306 DTurbo

Acquire small auto for MUTHA_SPORTY

Possibly get another 2.4 jtd Alfa 156

Post September:

406 V6 Coupe

RX8

20v jtd 156

Or whatever takes my fancy between now and then.

Get the Jag's tensioners sorted and have some of it's (light) corrosion issues sorted.

Get the Accord's paint sorted and the alloys refurbed.

If only it was going to be as simple as that...

1) Offload my junk XM

26121102362_b870185d14_k.jpg

2) Replace my daily Swift with something newer and dooryer as realistically I carry 2, 3, 4 adult passengers quite often and the Swifts size is a PITA for rear passengers. Sorely tempted by a facelift Alfa Romeo 147 Collezione or facelift 156.

3) Buy a puckka classic. Not sure what though. I like 2CV's but they are getting really expensive, Mini's are already are expensive, Reliant Rebel's are rare and getting expensive.

Sell the Rangie and the Benz and use the dough for a Granadaland Greenhouse Gassers appropriate collection thread.

Caution: Foreign country content!

Fix the MG,it needs a rear beam & front panel behind the bumper at least.I've got 2 donor cars,so parts aren't a problem.

Some heated seats for the Volvo would be good, wheels could do with a refurb too.

I don't think I'll be buying anything else yet,but I have found myself looking at Alfa GTs just out of curiosity  :-)

My Shite fettling mojo has been low of late because of the shit weather and life getting in the way, hopefully that will change in 2017

BMW is going to stay as long as there aren't any big bills on the horizon. I have a pair of wings for it to have a crack at painting and fitting. I keep contemplating a remap/decat/egr delete to get it to 280ish BHP but then something gets in the way. I'm looking at you, Mason...

Locost is staying, I have a few things to sort out over the winter and can't wait to get back out in it in the better weather. Main thing is fit a fuel level sender to the tank and mount the tank properly. I'd like it running standalone management but that's well pricey.

Clio will get it's cambelt done and whatever else it needs with a view to flogging it in the springtime. (Cort16 I want to own a P6 sometime and the Clio would go well round Knockhill . Hint, hint...)

Lexus- Not sure yet, I do like it and have always wanted one so will see what happens-hopefully will waft around in it fixing bits and bobs without spending fortunes on it.

Other than that ride bikes, drink beer and have as much fun as I can. Life's too short not too.

I'm into the final stage of training to be an electrician (onsite portfolio) and I've given myself a year to do that. After that it's the AM2, basically the final pratical test. It's the most expensive year so I do have to deal with the financial burden its imposed, it is only a year though.

I want my mountain bike serviceable again, hopefully within a few weeks, money allowing.

Car wise, the Fiesta MOT is March so I may have to change then. I want something a little larger, 5 doors. Two litre beater basically, current fancy is Toldedo 1.8 20v N/A or Facelift Laguna 2 but I'll no doubt change my mind several times before then.

Want to get the Doloshites back on the road and into regular use as the Civic is sapping my soul away.

Hopefully will also get something else that is utterly shit and ancient so I can ditch the Honda and have three rubbish cars, because that can only end well. Might end up working on a knackered Moggy Traveller once the Triumphs are roadworthy, depending on various things.

Hopefully I should have a garage at some point during January, then my plans are:

* Desperately hope for an inexpensive MOT pass for the LS400 in February

* Live with the Alto for a few months (at least until I start getting paid again, three months with no pay should never coincide with a new baby AND a V8)

* Replace the Alto with something a bit more... something.  Probably bigger and faster, perhaps French.

* Add electrickery, insulation and a stove to the garage in time for next winter.

I'm going to be realistic in 2017 and reduce my fleet. I'm going to finish all my projects before I buy anything else and cut down on my storage and insurance costs. I'm going to buy something medium-cheap, sensible, economical and reliable to use as a regular motorway hack and HOLY SHIT BREADVAN IS SELLING HIS SD1, I REALLY FANCY THAT, MUST BUY IT NOW.

Maybe I'll grow up in 2018 instead.

buy another Jaguar.

or an Allegro,

no, a Jaguar, i need another big cat in my life.

sell the Mini and the Metro as i'm not bothering with them and both cars are going down hill fast.

and maybe see if i can shift the Rover on as well.

or, just keep it and run it into the ground.

plus SWMBO has just recently announced that she wants to go to Paris in the summer...... joy......

so i will need to get a new passport, and there have been mutterings about doing the kitchen too, so maybe that new (to me ) Jaguar won't happen afterall. :-(

Car wise:

Fit megajolt and turbo to the transit

Repair the rusty bits

Stop the damn screen leaking

Buy the next Valiant Charger than comes up for sale

Learn to TIG weld.

Bike wise:

Get kids trials bike sorted out

Introduce kids to trials

Get out on my trials bike so I can supervise said kids

(Buy sidecar trials outfit if step 2 doesn't go to plan)

Life wise:

Buy new house with outbuildings or plot of land suitable for house with outbuildings

Buy bigger caravan suitable for living in if just a plot, wifey says I can have a Vickers or Buccaneer if no one can see it.

Get a new dog

In 2017 I would really like to see some resto action on Hyacinth, she hasn't even moved in months.  Martin might be good but he's so frustratingly slow!

I can see the Roffle 75 moving on in the spring, before I have to tax it again.

Tacuma, well unless it breaks it'll just plod on unchanged.  If it does break it'll get replaced by a Motability BMax.

Huggy has a nice long-distance run coming up in January, going down to Portsmouth to meet Dan (and celebrate my granddaughter's first birthday).  After that, as much use as possible and a summer of shows.

Beyond cars I'd like to get my credit cards down to something approaching reason, and despite the frying-pan/fire syndrome I'd be quite keen to get another job, except the one I have suits me in so many ways...

It would be quite nice to have a year with no health worries, for me, MrsR and Memphis.

I'd like to get some miles on the Cadillac after I find the right light bulb for less than $100000

Keep buying cheap, preferably sub-500 quid motors on a whim. Contenders for 2017 are an Omega, Rover 200 R3, Rover Metro/100 and Toyota Camry XV10. I wanted to try more Japanese cars this year but only managed one, the AS Colt.

Get the Hydragas cans on the Metro recharged with nitrogen to improve the ride. There's a BL enthusiast in Telford who does them and it'll cost around £350 apparently. I need to plan for that one as it'll involve spending a few days in Telford whilst he does the work. Then use it more, but I say that every year.

Do more road trips. In January/February I'll probably take the Safrane on a day trip to France via Le Shuttle. I've never used it before and was hoping to take the Cavalier over a few weeks back but wasn't organised enough.

Life wise: most of it is too boring to contemplate, so cars continue to provide a pleasant distraction!
