There's a fella over here worth a fair bit of coin has one for towing his RS cosworth. Don't know him personally but remember him from my boy racer days. We all used to hang around in our corsas and he would turn up at 17 with IIRC a tuned escort RS turbo

Crikey. If I had a car worth that much that I took everywhere on a trailer, I'd maybe invest 50 quid in a set of straps to hold it down.......

This is a nutter Transit, for those as was asking.  Apparently easily remappable to 240bhp.  Which is almost triple what my Mk6 had.

Straps appear to be on nearside wheels.

This is a nutter Transit, for those as was asking. Apparently easily remappable to 240bhp. Which is almost triple what my Mk6 had.

Unreal. I know how well the 2.5 v6 tdi vw transporter goes (very very well), and they're de-tuned to 150bhp. Those 3.2 transits must really move!

While the Motorsport Transit is undeniably awesome, to me it just screams "stay away".

 

Of all the late model VW Transporters on the road, the ones that exhibit the worst road behaviour are invariably those which have been tickled with the VeeDub stick and festooned with big wheels and aftermarket headlights.

 

Painting with the broadest possible strokes - it seems inevitable that a high proportion of these will be driven by idiots, too.

I've got a 2010 Transit 280 trend swb low roof 140 with a tuning box. It shifts like. It sits restricted at 105mph all day on the autobahn and is only on 3k in 6th gear. I get high 30's mpg as well.

Not a dig but they're 192bhp and a 5 cylinder. The newer 4 cylinders are not nearly as good imo.

In my time I've probably done a couple of hundred thousand at the wheel of transits and by far the most dependable of the 2000 on shape was the base 90bhp iirc one. I had the 2.4s for a bit but they constantly had EGR and flywheel trouble. On those we never had one drop an injector, always used BP diesel. Don't know if it made a difference but an awful lot of the Diesel Fords seem to have grief with injectors suppoosedly caused by shit supermarket fuel

You have to go to Trumpton for a real Transit. 3.7l 275hp.

have a 14 plate one of those as work - they do not have an easy life

 

45k when i started using it done almost 80 now (in 12 months) no i dont work for yodel - the other one same age is at 99k and apart from fucked brakes its not gone wrong either

 

apart from starter motor dying last week and tyres theres nowt wrong with it

I like the sound of those v6 ecoboost transits. I think that's the same engine they used when they built guy martins super transit .

You can also get the Fiat Ducato with some daft pez V6 in Trumpistan.  Wonder what it's like torque steering down the road in a 22' long van? :shock:

Transits must have come a long way in ten years then. My neighbour replaced his 06 Vivaro, which he loved, and always said drove as well as most cars) when it shit it's engine for the hundredth time. The replacement was an 06 Transit, which refuses to break, but is already crusty and 'drives like something from the bloody 1960's'', apparently. He genuinely hates everything about it.

I wouldn't describe an 06 Transit as "already" crusty.

 

From what I've heard the new Transits are much nicer to drive, but the car-like driving experience comes with a car-like build. All you people saying you'll have one in ten years or so will be disappointed, there won't be any left.

My dads got a 56 plate 140 bhp 330 RWD Transit that hes had from new, it's now done 150k and is a bit scabby with a hole recently appearing in the sill but it's been a good van, the central locking on the key had packed up, it's been though a few starter motors and fuel pumps but ither than that it's been a pretty good van considering it's always got a ton of tools in the back.

 

We also have them at work as port hack, I'm not sure on the age as they are all on asset numbers but they have the hardest life being limited to 2000 rpm and driven into cranes and containers all the time but they still drive a million times nicer than the LDV 400s we used to have, most of them sound like they will explode at a moments notice mind. My favorite to drive though was the smiley face models, they sounded like a proper Tranny.

I don't know if you've had one but one of the ones I had with work required welding on the sill at the first test. Probably not helped that it had a refrigeration unit on the back.

 

They rotted like fuck, at probably a year old they would be rusty in the seams on the chassis legs.

 

What happened to the Supervan 1?

Which ones? I had an 07 and have a 13 plate of the old shape, both new when I got them. Both were displaying what you might describe as concerning rust by three years old, although the 07 plate one didn't fail its MOT for it until this year.

 

My work has four of the current shape, two of which have needed welding repairs to their A pillars already. From what I've heard that is pretty standard.

Plenty of 06 onwards rusty transits down here . Connects seem to fare better

Thing is, ten year old Vivaros aren't rusty, but ten year old Transits are. I'm just surprised that Ford is still pretty much the only manufacturer to give their commercials the same very level of rust-proofing as they did 40 years ago.
