What’s the payload on it @scruff  out of interest?

And can you run at 40t what with having 5 axles?

Posted

Yes 40t, you can get 21620kg on it so more than enough for us.

A few interesting things seen today.

RHD and still lettered for its UK operator but now run by a Romanian. The trailer had the Romanian reg AB09 FNW on a UK-style plate so it looked like a UK reg.

The Merkins are still coming to Croughton every week. The regular one was followed a few minutes later by this bigger LHD Scania on US plates.

Pink leopard spots wouldn't be my first choice of livery but it's certainly eye-catching!

Last Truck to Transcentral

Always an elderly horsebox or two around thanks to the equestrian centre nearby. Today's was a 1994 MAN.

I've seen this several times before but it's still going strong after its 20th birthday. Check out the operator's website for a blast from the past - not updated since 2003 and has a photo of this and its sister when they were new!

I saw an F88 logging truck about a year ago and yesterday it came past where I am. Couldn't get a pic unfortunately but a rummage on t'net and I may have found it. This pic was from a year ago, as far as I can tell, with the  words 'still working'. What a wonderful machine and still doing its job.

The absolute legend that is Bob Carmichael. He's had that since the early eighties and wouldn't trade it for anything as he doesn't like modern trucks. He has enough spare parts to build another one so it just keeps getting rebuilt when anything goes wrong and is a real Trigger's broom that has gone through several cabs, engines and gearboxes.

There’s a layby not far from me where I often see his trailer parked up. Seems an odd thing to do but I’ve spotted it a few times lately but never with the unit in attendance.

We had little about Magirus Deutz here a while ago and now one has come for sale in Norway. This is a 1976 M 320 M33 6x6 and new to me this one has a V10 engine! I thought all of these were V8 and of course it is diesel and air cooled. Attaches some pictures.

It's for sale for 9,500 pounds. And there is something special about these and air-cooled engine and the possibility of all-wheel drive contributes a lot to that.

Quite by chance I came across Bob's "yard"/parking space a week or so ago, quite a few F88 bits and cabs lying about. Cool as fuck. Think it's got an F12 engine in it at the moment.

Somewhere near the start of this thread there's a video I took of that F88 after I saw him waiting to pull onto the main road so could get parked up and ready.

Great to see her still on the road as I've not seen or heard anything for a while.

A pic of Bob and the F88 hard at work this morning has just popped up in my Facebook feed so it's still going strong. Long may it continue!

Virginia plates.

I’m more interested in what “friction testing” and “leaves water trails” is all in aid of!

The L60 was to be the replacement of the well known W50. Introduced in 1987, only 3000 ish were made before that pesky reunification thing brought production to a halt.

That just looks like someone photocopied a Series 2B Land Rover at 150%.

That looks like Land Rover's attempt to copy a ZIL 130. I love it.

Another Magirus Deutz has come for sale here in Norway now and this is a smaller version and only 4x2. 1974 Magirus Deutz 160D12K and these have a straight 6 engine so there I learned something new again. Is little information to be found about these but these seems to have engines from straight 6 to V8 and V10 so a good selection of engines.

Spotted this oldie today, still going strong after 24 years. Doesn't actually look too dated as they carried on using this cab style until about 2013.

Actually, the cab in 2013 only got a deep facelift, so we can say they used that cab until 2021!

About time we had some more from the YORK Trailers archive, starting off with some old DAF action.

How about a massive* 240HP to play with ?

IMG_0282a.thumb.JPG.112dd520bf4e3a15a6d03159c6dfaf7a.JPG

or how about something Swedish ?

IMG_0283.thumb.JPG.4c8af61083610bb30df94f9ee7841c4f.JPG

FORD were still popular in the small truck league,

IMG_0284.thumb.JPG.a07b7dcaf1e38b4b9451cbb79328d1bc.JPG

whilst across the channel, you could buy FIATs, with 340HP V8s,

IMG_0286.thumb.JPG.0c00f6d340c69d5f9cea3126b151dab4.JPG

and another shot of it being chased by a MERC (and a DAF car for good measures).

IMG_0287.thumb.JPG.642219387c2229200ff283b4eb5d0698.JPG

Finally, for today, another GUY Big J4, complete with background chod.

Anybody any idea where this was taken ?

Sandbach transport show in the town centre today. Nice day out.

Body obviously newer than the chassis cab.

Must have been some horsey thing on today as a motley collection of elderly horseboxes were milling around. WOO is the noise I made on seeing this: how many Dodge Commandos are still on the road?

D710WOO.thumb.jpg.1e55c8fd831bb6bf544e994f231f6045.jpg

And Friday afternoon saw a very rare sighting of a Moroccan. Non-Europeans are exceptionally unusual over here and I hadn't seen one for over a year.

That's a six-cylinder version. The ad is wrong in claiming the later models had the snout because a. that's quite an early one and b. the much more common four-cylinder versions never had the snout as it was only needed for the bigger engines.

No.  Most are in Africa now.  Not popular anymore as cars have got taller making it difficult to use all three decks.

Manheim are still running a handful.  I think they and Arnold Clark was the last ‘new’ customer for them.  I don’t think Arnold Clark have any left.

Still very popular with the salvage people as you can fill all the decks and squash the cars a little to get the height down as this little Hyundai at the back of the bottom deck is finding out…

I still see a couple of those fairly regularly in use with Nick Pelosi from Milton Keynes, who transports VAG cars and usually pulls one with this big Actros V8, allegedly tuned to more than 660bhp. His trucks are all on the older side too, this 61-reg being the newest, but always immaculately turned out.

Pelosi_Nick_OE61YOT_Buckingham_2022-01-06.thumb.jpg.f894325c7d80e5fd6357785679daffa6.jpg

Edit: looks like these are only the 5-car version missing the middle deck. They still look a fair bit older than the fancy modern multi-adjustable ramp types usually seen. This is the other one that appears to be the same design.
