Sham Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 That Micra, I'll bet that that plate has been in the family for decades. It's amazing how often you see obviously very expensive plates on very ordinary cars. I like to see it, it means the owner values what they have over what they can get for it. 500tops, Shite Ron, Lord Sterling and 2 others 5
Rusty_Rocket Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 That's excellent. The car has been doing a steady 2/3k since mot records began so I'm guessing the same owner has had it long term and just used it as an honest form of transport, no delusions of grandeur there. Quite the opposite to a misspelled/ illegally spaced/ wrong font/ screws in a funny place WAYNE plate on a rented double cab pickup. puddlethumper, Mad Cyril, LightBulbFun and 2 others 5
puddlethumper Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Yeah, and it's a bit shonky which I like, Lord Sterling, DSdriver and Rusty_Rocket 3

quicksilver Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Saw this last week with a nice short local (Oxfordshire) plate that must be worth a fair bit. Rudler have a matching pair of these transporters registered RUD 9 and RUD 10. LightBulbFun 1

bunglebus Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Could be wrong but I don't think that's a 7 series adw1977 1

There is no 735 in the current BMW range, which must be a bit of a blow to the owner of that plate! 730, 740, 745 or 750. bunglebus 1
bunglebus Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Had to grab this quickly. Guess what the company make? adw1977 and willswitchengage 2

The last time I saw an Edwardian plate was something like 30 years ago on a Renault 9. The plate was X 8 which is now on a 2.3l diesel Fiat. AAA 1 is also round these parts.

quicksilver Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 A great reg for a recovery vehicle. Would be better on one with towing gear rather than a flatbed though. LightBulbFun, bunglebus, RayMK and 1 other 4
High Jetter Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 I know I'm wearing glasses, but isn't that a spectacle lift on the back end? Vehicle 1: on the bed, 2: tow
155V6 Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 There's a 2009 BINI running around locally with 1275 GT as the plate. Dick Cheeseburger 1

Things must have moved on since the days of the big spec lifts sticking up out of the back that I remember.

I know someone very well who, when in young in the 1960s, went to look at a Riley which was priced at £40. Supposedly it was £20 for the car and £20 for the plate which was three characters and a one. Even in those days such notable number plates had some value. During the test drive the owner managed to go round a bend, putting the car into a hedge and bending the wing. The owner then said he could have the car and plate for £20 which was duly excepted. The person still has this number plate, which, in theory is worth a chunk of cash, but he doesn't need the money so he just has it on an old classic of his. Tenmil Socket, eddyramrod and DSdriver 3

Me and friend bought a Riley 1.5 for £50 to do autotests in. Had some fun then scrapped the car and sold the reg for £50. I still have the original front plate inside the lid of my tool chest. It was three numbers and letter D. I used to see the reg about on various cars. It is now on a Mclaren. The_Equalizer and Amishtat 2

We know two/three letters are of interest because they form people's initials. But a single letter? Answers on an e-postcard ...
anonymous user Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 Saw a hearse today bearing the registration 1 RV I thought it was a fake Rolls Royce as it looked hideous. The front wasn't too bad, but the rear bit was an inflated blob. I checked on DVLA, apparently it is real built in 2020.

Given, I think it looks okay and good to see Rolls-Royces still being used.
High Jetter Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 I'm with AU on this. For me, it's the original roof-line and C pillar with the new roof coming over it. Probably something to do with construction of cars now, but conversions blended with the original lines much better years ago. bunglebus and myglaren 2
