Best way of posting a car door?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

What's the best/cheapest way of  sending a car door from Stoke up to PAISLEY! Obv if it doesn't get lost, damaged or destroyed it would be a bonus.

Any ideas?

Edit, soz, I got frigging Durham and Paisley mixed up!

I sent a pair of front wings in a box by parcel force and it was £20 I think. Not sure with the extra weight of a door though. If you have time and an economical car it might be worth taking it yourself

Try senditnow.com, its an online front for parcel force but provided it fits in their (fairly generous) size allowance and is under about 30kg, should be less than 15 quid.

Is it particularly rare? If not, just find a door that is closer.

It's someone who wants to buy it from me, personally I think he's crackers.

I'm sure if you just write the address on it with a marker pen and stick enough stamps on, it will get there

Find a car without a door going the right way.

Or check when WilsonWilson is next buying a car to head north. Won't be long.

I've just checked now I'm on an actual computer, senditnow is up to 30kg and max 1.5m length, max 3m combined length and girth (that's what she said etc)

Costs £11.35 if you make friends with your local post office by dropping off your giant chunk of car in person, or £12.19 if you waste a day waiting for parcelforce to turn up and collect.

Are Parcelforce really going to take a complete door? Amazing!

I really don't know how/why it's so cheap, a 29kg parcel through the actual parcelforce website is £44!

But yes, I don't see why not, I've used it  before for stuff that's too large for myhermes, eg a bicycle frame.

I tried that with a cheeseburger once. It never turned up to my mates house.

You might need to attack the opening on the post box with a grinder first to get the thing in....

The last time I got a door couriered to me it the bottom of the door had folded under from it being dropped even though it was packed in a ton of bubble wrap and cardboard.

safest way is to put it on a pallet in a wooden box, may not be as expensive as you think if you shop around...

Not quite the same but when I had a Polo 1.9D some crafty Cockneys sent a complete gearbox and diff Parcelforce to me. It had leaked, they weren't happy. :-)

I have sent a few.  Last one, I strapped a wooden bar at the bottom so that it would not bend when dropped, and I put a sheet of hardboard over the outer skin, screwed to bits of wood on the other side.  The whole was wrapped in card and bubble wrap, then the window dropped and the frame wrapped in packing too, to make it like a big handle.  It only took about two hours :)

Doors are very fragile and even putting them down firmly will bend the bottom.

I've sent a few large car parts via P4D and Parcel Force, they're not fussed as long as it's well packaged and within their weight and size limits

I might be ok now, as Cms206'should be able to grab it on the way back from shitefest and deliver it to scotch

Now we've got all the sensible suggestions out the way can I say it needs "door to door delivery" :)
