Gutted - NOT a good day.....

I don't post often on here - mostly a lurker but today has not been a good day and I thought I would share it with the rest of you.

Like most people on here I didn't start out being an autoshiter - kind of grew into it! Anyway I think my cars qualify as pure autoshite! My daily is a 1991 audi 80 diesel which I originally bought for £200 nearly 6 years ago - as some people have said its from a period when audis were good!

My other car is/was a 1983 mk1 jetta 1.3 which i've owned for nearly 10 years - until today!

Coming back from my mum's house on Livingston I decided to take a back road over the hills to Linlithgow where I stay - unfortunately a polish guy in an audi TT going the opposite direction (and flying!) came round a blind bend ON MY SIDE OF THE ROAD and collided almost head on with me! As you can see the cars a write-off - his car had some bumper damage and a broken headlamp - i'm still raging over it!

I got away with a chipped tooth and a slightly sore neck - god knows what i'll feel like in the morning - anyway some pics.....if i can get them to work!

Before the accident last weekend at the VW festival in Biggar

this showing how far over I was - and how far over the tit in the audi was...

Not F**king happy!

Aww no ! I saw it at biggar, don't let any insurance company take it away! That can be fixed!

With Dubscene tax, that was probably worth five times the value of that Audi so I think it's worth fixing. As Fiatdaft said, don't let the insurers take it away for assessment as it will be headed straight to Copart.

I hope your neck doesn't hurt too much tomorrow but definitely have it checked over as these things have a habit of developing over a few days. And it would be well worthwhile as your insurer may need to know....

I hope you're not too badly injured- teeth aren't cheap !

Was the Jetta on an agreed value policy?

Posted

That TT was local round here a few years ago and was driven by a well known local knob, obviously not the same owner now mind but its the sort of badly modified shite that attracts the wankers, unlucky on the car, hope it's salvageable.

Posted

Glad you are ok fella. A chipped tooth and a sore neck could have been the least of your worries.

What a twat of a driver. It'd be an outstanding job to do it but I'd be very amazed if that is repairable, seriously.

Is the door opening and shutting okay? If so i image you are probably bob on.

It is showing as taxed, MOT'd and insured.

That's sickening.

Any chance you can get the twat done for dangerous driving?

A lot of us have had similar situations, some quite recently, so we feel your pain!  Make sure the insurance assessor comes to you, rather than taking the car away.  It'll be someone from the Audi's insurance won't it?

+1 on dangerous driving. Did police attend the scene?

Posted

Hope the other driver was ok with you and not being a twat.

The doors still open and shut ok - can't open the bonnet though - the o/s side inner wing is badly bent from what I can see - the whole front of the car is twisted - it's not on an agreed value policy unfortunately so might be a fight to get what it's actually worth - It was probably worth a lot of money pre-accident but as I never planned on selling the amount I could have made is a moot point.....

I don't think it is repairable at least not by me - I reckon the insurance will offer me a couple of hundred pounds if i'm lucky - if thats the case I will be taking Mr Polski to the cleaners via his insurance AND i'll want the car back - if anyone is going to break it it will be me!

Still raging how it happened - god knows why he steered right instead of left - the road was wide enough to get past and as you can see in the pics my car was on the grass - I think that when he saw me he panicked and thought he was back home and steered accordingly.

That's unpleasant, to say the least.  I'd be inclined to agree it's a write-off, it looks like it's pushed the wing into the door, and out, and bent the cross member quite badly.  It's not obviously kinked the roof so you could probably get it repaired if you were determined enough but I'm not sure even I'd want to.  I hope you do manage to get this sorted through insurance but it's going to be a difficult car to replace and a massive shame as it looked very tidy and the wheel choice is quite well suited.  Very sad to see a cherished car end up like that because of one overconfident, underskilled moron.

Good luck whatever the outcome.

Gutted for you. Me and chompy had a nasty little bump in February so I can sympathise. Hope you get it fixed.

I tried to get the police to attend - because there were no injuries and the road wasn't blocked they weren't interested - did get a crime number though - the car wasn't able to be moved and the AA who i'm insured with passed me over to the broker who actually insures the car - they organised the recovery - I really wanted the car recovered to my house or the garage where I work but it was to be taken to the recovery companies yard in whitburn.

Tomorrow is going to be an interesting day.....

Posted

Bloody hell man, no wonder your steaming, I'd feel the same. Theres not much that be said ofter than i hope the insurance company don't piss you about and you recover quickly.

Remember it's your car,not the insurers.

I think if the claim goes my way then I will be taking it further - possibly involving a lawyer "where there's blame there's a claim" - the twat was definitely on the wrong side of the road and going too fast for what was basically a farm track - why he thought it was a good idea to take the "racing line" around a blind bend is anybodies guess! anyway time for a beer - think I need one!

Was going to post up some more pics but can't see a "attach" button - help!

Looks like there's some skid marks on the road, might be an idea to get back out there and take some photos before rain and traffic erase them. Useful for showing cars position and direction at the time of the accident. Photos can be dismissed if he claims the cars were moved after the accident, but his skid marks show nicely he was all the way over to the right.

Ahh, thanks - I did take photos showing the skid marks - you can see his ones under the audi - mine were almost non-existent as I was virtually stopped when he hit me.

Maybe the bellend will slow down now.

What a twat.  You get lots of this in the lanes around here too - people reading too many issues of EVO and CAR and watching too much Clarkson et al.  That's a crying shame about your Jetta.

Posted

As long as you can persuade the insurance company that it was his fault, his insurance company should pay for you to either have that vehicle repaired or for you to purchase a vehicle of similar quality. So start looking for ads for cars like yours so you can present them to the insurance company when they offer you a derisory sum.

It will help your claim if you make a statement to the old bill so that they can persue a case of dangerous or DWCA. You need to do this quickly in case he tries to fit you up by putting his own claim in.

Ouch, too many shiters this year seem to be involved in non fault accidents, that looked a tidy car too. Gutted for you. It does look repairable, but would probably need jigging, and due to age, it would be an auto write off. Hope you are OK, but get that neck and tooth checked out

Posted

By the looks on it with you being so far over and with all the pictures I don't think the insurance will go against you.

I had a very similar thing happen to my mk1 Fiesta with it being hit in the same place. As it was the other drivers fault the whole front end apart from the bonnet was replaced

Posted

Shit that's awful. Least you are ok. I grew up in Linlithgow and have always seen your car about and admired it. I do hope something positive comes out of all of this for you.

I was visiting my folks in Linlithgow today with my wee boy and we were going to go back that very road from a trip out to Almondell park but my dad was driving and went the wrong way so we travelled via Ecclesmachan. So glad we didn't go the other road now.

You have a chipped tooth - injury RTC. Cops should have come out - other driver could have been off his cake on drugs.

Gutted for the car - anything is repairable- its just a question of money.
