I will, however, retract my fevered DIIIBS for now.....

Wow! Never saw that coming.

Mason will live another year! Woo!

Do a £5 per ticket roffle and see if you can beat the five hours set by Supernaut...

I reckon chatsharris would buy six tickets. Notwithstanding the fact he has four cars already he was rather cross he missed the first roffle...

I would most likely be interested in a ticket too if there was a raffle (especially for a fiver), even though it is at the other side of the country, too big to park on the driveway and too expensive for me to insure.

It is however, the opportunity to own a V8 before I am 20, so consider me interested.

I think you mean fatharris, he's up to five cars at the moment!  Just the two cars between us two at the moment.

So this is tempting for a roffle...

Well, it only bloody passed!

Who will be taking on Mason next?

Oooh, V8.

This will be a hard roffle to avoid if it happens...

Don't want a shonky old Passat with a borked alternator do ya?

Nae worries ;)

Domes shonky autos-Audi S4 V8 on LPG, Lexus has an MOT. Who wants it?

The S4 4sale? :o

'ow much?

Anyone thinking "I would, but I just daren't take on a V8 liability" should go and take a good hard look at themselves in a mirror.

Like I did six months ago and ended up winning one anyway.

Well, if my wife is not paying attention and I've been left in charge of a laptop, it's not really my fault is it? Offer made.

I've had some interest and am waiting for the first interested party to make sure he can take it, I'm pretty sure it'll stay on the forum though. I shall update in due course

Oh Christ no, it and i are just getting to know each other. I've barely gotten to second base with it and 320touring was in the back at the time.

Achievement unlocked.

After a brief text conversation a meeting was arranged for this morning with a view to a swappage.

This was a rarity-a seemingly normal human being on Gumtree.

We exchanged keys and drove each others vehicles. Upon return we kept the keys we had been handed and completed the paperwork. I then proceeded home in somewhat more comfort than I had arrived in.

attachicon.gifDSC_0249.JPG

Rule 1 of Autoshite collection acheived.

attachicon.gifDSC_0251.JPG

It is a 3.0l manual with NO LEATHER! And slightly disappointingly, no cruise control. Initial impressions from the drive home-very quiet, engine pulls well but needs some revs on it before it really moves. Feels more like an American Ford (I imagine) than a Jag but I've only had XJ6s so the bar was set high.

Apparently genuine 64k and giffer owned. No obvious rattles.

Isuues I was told of

Heater controls don't blow hot-apparently a valve somewhere "easy to get at". Hmm

Other issues:

Drivers check strap broken

Both fobs dead-will try new batteries obv.

Scratch on front bumper

There appears to be giffer leds fitted.

Bit wiffy inside

And no doubt more to follow...

Loved my S Type, 3.0 in an Auto. It caused my first 3 endorsements on my license lol.

Had it two years, went through MOT with nothing but a Pass. Actually I lie, once it failed due to a failed washer bottle pump. I had apparently from factory, Special Alloys fitted, they where really nice and have seen no other S Type with these stock rims.

Miss it, fantastic car. Moved house and could no longer afford to insure it.

Sigh :-( . I'd have another one tomorrow.

Any further update? I have been on the edge of my seat for the last 24 hours, watching to see if it will go to a raffle.

Well, apologies to all who showed an interest but as you no doubt know 320touring of this parish has taken custardy of the Lexus. He'd expressed an interest a while ago and I may* have encouraged him somewhat.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Mason. I'd loved LS400s since reading about them when it was launched and then driving one when I worked at a hotel in my teens. It lived up to everything I'd expected. Quiet, smooth, supremely comfortable and a feeling of quality engineering. However, with the arrival of the S4 it was time to thin the fleet down. I hope it does you well Neil.

The S4 has been fab, when I actually get a chance to drive it. Mrs Dome seems to have taken a liking to it too, especially now it's back to full power...

It was on cross country duty yesterday, from Fife to Glenluce and back via Neils house on the way down to drop the Lexus off. After 260 miles on LPG I was liberated of £33 to fill it back up. I can live with that. It's burbles along nicely on part throttle with only a squeeze required to pass traffic. Drop a gear or two and nail it and it's just silly. In a good way :)

I still have my RS4 rear anti roll bar to fit and today my cruise control switch arrived, I just need to work out how to get it coded. It won't be this weekend though as I'm off cycling round the Hebrides!

I've not cancelled the Lexus insurance so there's always potential for more shite. In the meantime though, I have a small kit car needing driven and a complete fuel system overhaul.

Assuming Mason gets me doon n back up this week we'll be golden..

Thon s4 is quite the beast, I like it:)

In an attempt to keep my car clean with minimal effort I decided to purchase a Snow Foam attachment for my pressure washer.

The idea is the thick foam dislodges the dirt and then allows you to jetwash it off.I believe more serious car cleaning types do it as a kind of prewash. My hope was that doing this regularly would be quicker and easier than attacking it with a bucket (or God forbid even two...) and  sponge.

So, here goes.

Foam on. Still getting to grips with my nozzle...

Apart from attacking the bugs on the front this hasn't been touched by a sponge. Incidentally whatever wax the previous owner used is fantastic, I've never seen a car bead water like this one does.

And the results this morning.

Pretty happy with that. There are watermarks on it though, if anyone knows how to stop them happening with little or no effort I'm listening...

The efforty way to avoid watermarks on an otherwise good surface is chamois. But that's efforty.

Sweeping the water off with a long wiper blade (or silicon strip if you can find such a thing) and keeping it cool and shaded is much less efforty.

See, I had thought of just taking it out and gaun like fuck, might try your idea with the wiper blade next time I wash it.

Greetings all.

The S4 continues to Go Like Fuck very well, although my list of jobs for it starts to grow. Nothing too major althought here's an intermittent vibration from somewhere that needs diagnosing as well as gearbox and axle fluids to change. My fettling mojo has been pretty low of late though.

It was logical, therefore, to buy some more shite...

A mate and I had been talking about getting a track car for some Knockhill action. I live about 5 miles away and the lure of the place has been great. I fancy taking the Locost on at some point but would rather find my feet in something more substantial.

To cut a long story short, yesterday we went halfers on this fine chariot.

It's a 2.5 V6 manual with 170 Bhp. It has a stainless exhaust and an induction kit so obviously it has lots* more than that now. It's also cheap enought that if(when) we roll it into a ball it won't be the end of the world. Financially at least.

Randomly it has been rebadged as a Mercury Cougar (It was sold as a Mercury Contour in the US I think) and the seller reckoned the grill/mudflaps/steering wheel and fuck knows what else are worth money. We shall see..

Opps, they fell* off

post-7629-0-93218500-1497267847_thumb.jpg

It drives OK but the tyres are shit so we'll look for some 15" (if they fit) or 16" steel wheels and flog the alloys.

There's something not right at the rear end so that's a priority, then bleed the brakes and probabaly fit discs/pads before taking it to Knockhill to show off our driving prowess. WCPGW?

Check the secondary inlets are opening up,you should get a Vtec style shove at around 3.5k iirc

If they don't get regular exercise then they can gum up....

Most Mondy ST200 bits will bolt on engine wise

There used to be a fairly active forum at UKCougar.org,but was incredibly clichey

One of the members had a totally over the top car that had been on Barry Island Boys,Piston heads SOTW ect. They did their best to defend him but it was an awfull thing to look at....

May be interested in the Mercury grille and rear badge if cheap.....

Shit the bed!

I was looking at that on gumtree / ebay (can't remember which) the other day, thinking "hmm, tempting!"

Good work!

I'm guessing it's an alternative to the 406 coupe you didn't win (and nor did I, boo).

I've driven a V6 Cougar... it was EXACTLY the same as my V6 Calibra, i.e. long-legged rather than sporty with lazy, wide-spaced ratios in the gearbox. This doesn't suit the engine particularly well imo.

When I get round to it I'll swap the box in my Calibra for the close-ratio f28 6-speed I acquired from a Calibra Turbo a while ago, this appears to be the approved mod. Not sure what box would fit the Cougar if you choose to go down that route though.

Plenty of car for the money though, Cougars are sheep as ships nowadays.

I've had two 2.5 Manual Cougars and can honestly say they are the best built Ford from the 90s after I sold my first one I regretted it so much that I spent another year finding the best that money could buy so bought a fully loaded minter which had done hardly any miles but redundancy forced me to sell it..

The thing is I still see both of them driving about locally years later still looking good I think Silver though is the only colour they come in.

The holy grail in Cougar ownership is owning a metallic red one as a few made it to our shores in that colour by mistake as it wasn't a colour available in Britain also some managed to be smuggled in via Southern Ireland.

Also check the front wishbones as these can only be bought through Ford and are quite expensive as the things aren't shared with any other ford and both mine ended up needing new ones and if you buy them from America cheap you still end up with import tax.

Also the V6 is a gem of an engine and is so smooth that you can balance a pound coin on top when it's running and I found that if I filled the car up I could get 99.9 miles to the gallon on the fuel computer if I rolled it at 70 down a very steep hill out of gear on the A21 so who needs a Hibrid when you can have a V6 lol.
