Dollywobbler's RAV4 - Force Ale - £SOLD

Right folks. Looks like I need a new tow car. Recommendations please! Replacing the XM won't be easy, but it must be possible.

Must haves:

Towing ability - 1500kg should do it as that's what the XM can lug.

Japanese - for magazine related reasons

1996 or earlier, for insurance and retro reasons

Options for direct replacement are thin on the ground, as it seemed to take a while for the Japanese to get the hang of diesels. That's ok. I fancy a break from oil burners, but 30mpg plus would be a definite bonus.

What are your recommendations then?

I just Googled Mazda 626 V6 and found this. Maybe it's a sign. This is a '91-97 so maybe not retro enough though.

First or second gen Honda leg end? How practical does it need to be? Legend Coupes look pretty sweet.

Lexus LS400? Definite editorial barge material, LPG conversion a bonus; although these do crack 30 on a run.

The Bluebird with a big enough engine could work, I could see you in one of th... oh.. Been there I see.

That reminds me of the Carina E.  Boring but excellent on fuel and utterly dependable.  5 million Bradford taxi drivers can't be wrong!

Oh. He has told me there were no MOT advisories. Not a good idea when I can just look it up and discover that it failed the MOT for seat belt rot, and has quite a few minor advisories!

715% of British farmers can't be wrong. The Fourtrak was so good it helped to galvanise Land Rover into cobbling together the Discovery. And the towing weight of 3.5t should be way more than enough.

It likely ticks no boxes but it would be remiss of me not to mention the Hyundai XG30 at this point.

Shame you want old and towbar as these both need rehoming .......post-17481-0-30266000-1463505216_thumb.jpg

Hard to beat one of those as an XM replacement really. Huge passenger cabin/loadspace, self-levelling rear suspension, good towing capacity and comfortable seats/high-speed ride. All mixed in with great handling, off-road ability and a woofly flat-four engine.

I hadn't realised they were available that cheap these days  . My bank account is all the more in danger for it.

Longsight isn't the best part of Manchester, I wouldn't bother.

I'll give up on that one. Shame as it's a nice spec and a great colour. The lies had me running away already to be honest.
