Never mind updating... time you sold me this.

Lovely. And a proper internal garage!

Maestro FTW. That's lovely.

That looks utterly spiffing, what's not to like?

Thats a really tidy Maestro, you'll have to bring it to Shotley so me and Spottedlaurel can do a early 90s shopping car photoshoot of them all.

Aye, that would have been head to head with your Astra on the forecourts wouldn't it Trig?

This looks newer - weirdly, since the design is older, but I think they did a good job with the plastic bumpers keeping it fresh. Also it helps being a "youth" colour instead of "giffer gold" ;)

I do like a nice Maestro (as long as it's someone else's), but I resent the implication that pensioners should drive them; I'm a pensioner now and if it wasn't paid into the bank I'd go to collect it in the Bentley.

I'm not sure which is more impressive, the Maestro or the fact that you keep it in a conservatory.  Excellent either way.

It's got a sort of small ARG dealer showroom feel to it, that conservatory - most excellent.

If I can prise it away from my dad I will do! He's using it as his daily at the moment. Did a trip to Stalham and back earlier in the week, with only one problem - a failure to start caused by a corroded rotor arm. The car's done so little mileage over the last few years it needs a bit of use to free things off and get it reliable!

That conservatory/drive thru garage has been very useful for keeping cars in/tinkering over the years. Sadly the house is up for sale so the space will be lost soon. I do like the idea of getting a big Austin Rover Group banner to hang up in there, because rwelfare is right, with it looking out of the glass doors it does feel like a small showroom, especially with the newly repainted floor! Never thought of it that way.

Stick the Rightmove link on the eBay tat thread. I'm sure it's what many of us dream of :)

Lovely.

If I can make a suggestion? Get some clear sticky back plastic over where the door reflectors will be sitting before installing them, so the inevitable grit doesn't scrub away on that minty fresh paintwork.

Would love to see this.

I used to drive the odd Maestro around back in the late ‘80s, as they were the favoured choice of the estate agents at the place I worked. From memory, I’d imagine it to be more roomy inside than my Sunny (but I seem to remember it would have more wheelarch intrusion within the boot than the 309 I had).

The conservatory just needs a few brochures and a shelf with various Unipart accessories, touch-up paints etc to complete the look. And for someone to sit in a small, half-glazed office at the end in a blue workcoat as they still did at our village BL/ARG garage in the ‘80s.

I'm working in Southend today. I have two bank cards and the appetite to drive home in BLs mid range hatchback. Talk to me

(!)

Just to reiterate... lovely.

My grandad had a 1.6 HLS in gold - back mid 80's. I just remember it had an awful gearbox, VW I think. Somehow BL managed to give it the worse change possible. Still I sort of want one now...

Posted

There's a legend that VW knowingly supplied duff 'boxes to A-R for the early cars.

Posted

I used cable ties on the gear linkage on my VW 'boxed 1.6L and it actually improved the gearchange no end.

Thank feck the EFi had a Honda box, the gearchange was sweet, feck knows why ARG didn't ditch the VW box in favour of the Honda unit

Looks great that Dicky!

When/If you come to sell it make sure you use those above photo's on ebay then you can sell it as "WOW L@@K CONSERVATORY FIND"

Got to be worth an extra premium even on top of all that  ** LOOK BARN FIND**  bollocks.
