Cheers! It often had some ladders on the roof rack a while back. I assumed the guy was doing a bit of window cleaning or something.

Looks to be the original front plate at that point. Much prefer the early shape G and 5 - defo needs a period correct plate back on it.

It was that plate that was an advisory on the last MOT. Guess he just paid up for a new one.

 

Either that or one further incident of touch parking finally finished it off.

This car has the strangest ability. Every single photograph flatters it. No matter what you do. Even though you're looking a steaming turd on your LCD and through your lense, out comes a beautifully preserved work of art. Weird. (Gr9 for selling)

 

Anyway, gave it the very quickest of baths to get the bird shit off, see where it leaks and generally give it a good look over. No polish.

When the Sierra was launched, ISTR in one of the mags that the press photographers all hated it because there wasn't an angle they could shoot it from that would make it look good.  Of course now all cars are this shape, and you don't hear a peep from the smudgers...

Looks like the owner and his daughter. I spoke to him the first time I photographed this car, and to her the second time. So by the time that photo was taken, they shouldn't have been surprised at the interest in the car.

Massive thanks to everyone for the generous gifts and nice messages (my favourite was SHIT CAR M8 :-) ). My email has been going mad with notifications overnight and I am moved by everyone's willingness to pitch in to what most of the world would think was a pointless cause.

 

With some of your hard-earned we've already bought this:

which appears to be the only bit of bodywork that needs serious attention.

 

 

Thanks for this and to everyone else who has offered help with collection. In fact the seller is an excellent chap who breaks Sierras and Cortinas, likes the ordinary models best of all and is happy to store the panel for us as long as we like because we aren't XR or Cosworth lickers! So JohnK will pop over there sometime soon-ish and see what other goodies he has, and will doubtless post up a report.

 

 

Just need to decide what colour rattle can to use on the new panel once John's fitted it.

Red oxide FTW.

SERVICE PARTS ARE BEING ORDERED TODAY

 

All of a sudden you realise why the old guy kept the car going for so long.  Everything is absolute peanuts to buy.

 

All filters are under £5. Full set of plugs £10. Rocker gasket £6. These are local 'motorfactor' prices.
