Ford Ka Dilemma Good Riddance to bad Rubbarsh

Morning Shiterz!

I appear to have a 2003 Ka parked on my drive.

It's not mine; it's a friend of Mrs_outlaw's mother, and because I know* about cars, it's down to me to sort it out.

The lady in question is unlikely to drive again, she's had a stroke, and even if she regains enough strength in her left side, will need a Badermatic. So, there are two plans afoot.

Plan One: Get it through the MoT, and then it goes into my garage, gets an OCD/Vulgulourising clean, and is released into the wild via here, Bumtree, or Ebay. Thinking £500-600? It's in pretty good nick, few minor giffer scrapes that will 90% polish out.....

OR

Plan Two: Sell it as is, no mot, tax to get you home etc....possibly £150?

So, what do you reckon? Am i being optimistic thinking £200 should cover the welding, and do my figures add up?

    Cheers

Just my opinion but I am not sure you would get £150 with no mot at the moment with scrap prices, especially if it is a KA that needs welding.

Most normal people would see it as fit for scrap as it is an old car, whereas people on here would always look at scrap prices before taking on an unknown quantity.

It's hard to tell how much welding or how difficult/expensive the welding will be without pictures.

Good points gents, cartakeback are quoting £50, but looking on Ovalchat etc, the going rate for the complete car looks to be arouind the £150 mark.

It's raining cats dogs and sheep at the mo, so I'm not feeling inclined to get under it. Will investigate further on Friday when I'm going to have time to drag it into the garage and have a butchers.

@ Skattrd whats it like in Lincoln...coming up there this pm for work, tedious training all day Thursday.

Well I paid £50 for mine with very little test and it had a similar fail. The welding needed was actually tiny and they all have that moment in the suspension.

Get it done and then get rid it's better than pointlessly scrapping it for something that sounds like nothing

It's a no-brainer for me, get it welded if that's the only fail, and flog it on, provided you know a good garage :-D

Whereabouts are you?

If you can't be arsed, should be someone on here would buy it and do the same I should think if the price is right :-D

I R ESSEXMAN

You know when you get a task that you know is going to be a massive PITA.......

Mrs_Outlaw just informed me the owner's daughter - her mate - seems to think it's worth a bag, because her mother paid £1200 for it in November 2014.

Anyway, i'm off to work. For about two hours before M1 HELL.

Kaks seem to be worth the square root of fuck all now with loads about for £50, I know they are quite popular on the circuit now. With a MOT you'll probably get around £400 for it but it's a lot of hassle for not much gain.

Book Cartakeback in, remove the battery and spend the £32 they'll offer for the car on whiskey and try and drink the memories of having the shit thing on your drive away.

If relatives are poking their nose in with unrealistic valuations save yourself grief and hand it back.

Cartakeback offer for a Ka?  £15.

Value of a 13 year old Mot-less Ka that has already started its annual welding medication?  £10 -£150, depending on how well you Gumtree it.

Unless you have a welder yourself, they truly are disposable and next months Italian fridges.

The trouble with Kas is that they get so catastrophically rotten that trying to weld one up is futile. Start digging and half the car will be on the ground in seconds. There's often nothing to weld to.

Bridge it, Jones.

I'd not touch it, you'll get nothing but grief. Say something like "sorry, I won't be able to get more than 300 for it, and it'll cost 300 to fix". If they still want you to take care of it after that you're in the clear I suppose but it still seems like hassle will be lurking round the corner.

is there any rot around the filler cap?

NOT SURE IF....SERIOUS?

I sometimes muse on how well a car would convert into a teardrop caravan given some attention with a grinder and a welder - this is one of those I could see going that way for a laugh :-D

Walk away mate, these situations are a fookin nightmare that I avoid like the plague. worst is when you actually do sort things out and they just say ta and don't even give you a pint.

Take it round to her mate's place, dump it on her drive, and post an invoice for a grand through the letterbox.....................problem solved

A KA with only 1 prescribed area failure, that's nothing. I've seen 57 plate ones fail for welding. They seem to go on for years with patches on patches. I'd just get it welded, small cars always seem to shift ok.

^^are they going to be stuck saying two weeks and have their head explode next?

Mend it! Then get shot ASAP in case you accidentally start liking it. Then you'll be fucked.

I'd offer her £30 for the car, or quote her £500 to get it an MOT, But  explain it's ONLY worth £430 with an MOT.

I wouldn't be wasting my life fixing anybody's mother's car, for nothing.

I might help my brother in law fix his wife's car but then I know I'd get a favour similar to that back.

Just a point on Cartakeback.  I'd never heard of them until yesterday, so put in the details of the Ka and it came back with the generous £15 offer.  Raddled with manflu, I decided that a heavier car should bring in more, so put in the details of my long neglected 53 plate Jag S Type (I'm allegedly getting round to it, but I realise I've not used if for close to two years).  Result?  £40.

That was enough for me to take two lemsip and have a lie down.  However, and here's the point.  I now have a revised offer, slightly changed for the Jag, up from £40 to £225.  In the words of a passing nun, WTAF?

Do I wait a month and they'll have upped the offer so I can buy a new XF?

UPDATE!!!

Welding inside NSR wheelarch cost £120+vat, and he's done a good job.

MoT was £40, making a grand total of £184.00, which I paid Monday 21st. I have yet to see this money.

I texted the daughter that the Ka had passed moT, and suggested that it's parked up with a sign in the window. No reply so, it was parked outside Outlaw_Towers @ £499 ono. Had a toothless mouthbreather (literally) knock on my door and offer £275 "I'm on the dole mate, do me a favour").

I texted the daughter again, and asked her what she wanted....hope you're sitting down here.... she said "Put it up for £650, and I'll take £550".

NOT

A

FUCKING

HOPE

Still haven't had the money, and strangely enough, nobody has even sniffed at the car.

I'm going to block it in on my drive so she can't come and get it without giving me my dough.

Wish i hadn't bothered.
