I bought and fitted some new wiper blades today - its first new set since i got it .

Its also pogweasel maroon if that makes sense

this is current daily, milage is 116k up from the 93k the car had on when i bought it at the end of august 2014.

its a weasely diesel using the dirty hun's engine. but 44-odd mpg on the motorway is a consolation, and save the clutch and master cylinder failing at 110k its been faultless.

and this is why i bought it

as i wanted something both nice to look at and comfortable to sit in when running up or down the M1

2008 Mondy 2.0 tdci zetec estate in metallic thunder grey.

Had it for over 4 years, comfy, smooth and economical.

Can chuck loads of stuff in it.

Driven carefully I can get 1200km for a tank of diesel.

I live in the Munster region of Eire,My Dad has an elderly aunt in North Norfolk,

It can do the journey there 3 up with a lot of luggage with ease, and use just over 1/2 a tank of fuel.

It's a grey Ford estate,

not much else to say really.

Dunno what I'll replace it with when the time comes TBH.

Those wee VAG vans are the dogs danglies.

If I had space I'd have one for mountain biking

Would the trails not be a bit narrow?

Not used daily as I suffer the train to work, but the Cavalier has been on main car duties since purchased in April. It's lugged loads, been on holiday with us, and never fails to start. SWMBO uses it so I need it to be reliable, and she likes it so win all round.

Duties will now be shared with the Mondeo, which is handy as the heater in the Cav isn't the greatest for when it gets properly cold.

I was going to be a hero and run the Daimler through the winter, but a) the heater is shit and b ) I'm a pansy.

Probably the wrong transport for my five mile commute as regards cost effectiveness but I love it. I've spent a bit getting it right though.

Comfortable, frugal, fun.  Starting to look dated now, as well it ought after 21 years.  Can be difficult to find in a car park, it's lower than just about everything I park it next to and painting the roof black has exacerbated the issue.  It comes very, very close to making me as happy as the Princess does and just like the Princess I enjoy finding reasons to drive it.  It's one of those special 90s cars that hits the sweet spot by being really easy to live with but not boring.

Those people in the photo are French and they were laughing at me trying to manouvre an 80s French diesel with no power steering whilst FOAD and Richard also laughed.

They also harassed Richard in French and knew my first name somehow.

My SSS which is quite modern, but in my defence it does actually drive like a 'hot hatch' from the 80's.

Until July this year my daily was a Mondeo MK2, I bought it in 2002, it was 2 years old and had done 80,000 miles. I have used it for the past 13 years and the mileage is up to 153,000. The original clutch is starting to slip, the original battery is on the wane, and the original exhaust is now a bit noisy. post-17984-0-38995500-1446929977_thumb.jpg

When the MOT ran out in July I parked it up until I decide what to do with it, in the meantime I replaced it with a 22 year old BMW E30 316 Touring that a friend was selling at a good price, this is now used as my main car although working in Leeds city centre I use public transport for my commute

Used for the daily 20 miles commute, shopping, socialising, going on tinder dates etc.

Use this whenever I need to move large objects (including people). 600 quid a couple of years ago for no frills and trouble free motoring. It's just nudged over 28K now :)

This is my 'daily, last 8 months -1999 Landrover Discovery 300TDi commercial- apart from a week about a month into that when I had to weld up its sills, n a few days here n there to pull axle half shafts out to replace seals; I bought it as a 'tow-tug' for A framing missions - which it performs effortlessly, in fairness to it...

...it was deader than road kill, acceleration wise, when I got it, so its a possibility that someone in the past tuned the starwheel in the pump anti clockwise a good bit to improve MPG - Ive turned it 'round the clock two rotations' and acceration or 'progression is just about acceptable...

Heater blower only works on full -#3, the seats are massively uncomfortable, and it leaks powersteering fluid from the pump; the cabin also hosts a number of spider squatters, and the go to work every night building elaborate webs all over the dash n rear load area ...

...it has neither ABS or any airbags; strange for a 1999 era vehicle; especially a 4wd... parts seem ridiculously cheap for it; the local Landrover dealership now consists of just the parts department, operating out of what was originally their valeting shed - staffed by really decent helpful folk...

I love it n hate it in equal measures; it returns very little 'driving enjoyment', but Im too afraid to get rid of it now as I might need something with its capabilities, the day/week after Ive sold it, as has happened with vans ive owned /  then got bored with in the past....

They like commercial vehicles in dieselassist's neck of the woods for tax reasons but they were available here as well, there was even a CV version of the new monster Discovery. (3?)

Didn't know they made a commercial version of the Disco.  That's my new thing learned today.

There was a huge number of the commercial versions sold here in Ireland; commercials benefit from 'cheaper road tax' here - up until a few years ago you didn't need to provide 'much' evidence of it being actually used for 'business purposes', but they tightened up that 'loophole' a lot in recent years - theres a lot of paperwork now involved in taxing as a commercial - even if its useage is 'commercial' on the logbook. eg. I had to put the disco on a weigh bridge n get a printout to provide to the local tax office...

Commercials here, are usually very very poverty spec - hence no airbags or ABS in mine; folk 'bought them anyway' from new, so no extra spec needed to be included.... the disco 2 and up are 4 door's - panelled out rear passenger doors n rear quarter window....

My personal Irish commercial favourite is the Xsara coupe with panelled rear side windows.

When I worked 12 miles away I used my (push) bike and shared a V70 T5 with my wife, since 2012 I have worked over 40 miles away and commute in the C4 VTS now on 173000 miles. I take it 10 years old is modern?

My daily for the past 6 years, now down to 9/10k a year. 2 litre non-turbo, plenty quick enough for me. New Dizzy Cap seems to have cured the starting problem so the only annoyance is the stero display won't light up and the lacquer is peeling off. 23 years old is modern, right?

Mrs the Princess' daily is this 1.0 Metro in Clove Brown
