Hey teacher, leave those shites alone!

We used to have an art teacher at school who drove a red Morris Ital with all the seats removed, bar the drivers seat. The rumour was the reason behind it was that his wife and kids had been killed in a car accident. I think it was actually so he could fit canvases in.

The typing teacher (yes i’m old)  had an orange mk 1 Cavalier, which she never used the handbrake on.  It was a regular treat to push it all the way to the other car park on the other side of the playground.

Edit:

Remembered some more-

Primary school class teacher had a gold P1800 which was undeniably the best teachermobile I can remember.

My economics tutor at 6th form college had a Karmann Ghia though, so that was a close runner up.

@dozeydustman I remember the 944 that Cochrane had and Brotherstone still had the AX when I got there.  Boutelle's car I never saw (he retired very suddenly when I was there) and Simpson had moved on by '99.

Mr Walter (whom I dislkike intensely) had a turquoise MR2 but probably started after you left as he was only about 28 when I had a big falling out with him in Year 9...

One of the senior management (but I can't remember who) gave me a lift home one day after an 'incident' but sadly can't remember the details.  Remember thinking the car was interesting, at least.

I can't remember the last time I saw a banger in a school car park. They are now awash with near new, decent spec German things. Not like in my day when teachers couldn't afford to run anything flash at all.

Can't remember any names but a few cars that stick in the mind from the mid-80s

  • 1966 Hillman Imp in a very, very tired condition. Hand painted in Woolies blue and owned by one of the most disheveled people you have ever seen.
  • Toyota Carina owned by a physics teacher who was Italian and therefore the least disheveled person you have ever seen.
  • A very tired Elan S2
  • Allegro 3 driven by an elderly and foul tempered ratbag of a deputy head. Wore large pink ear muffs when driving even in summer.
  • Alfa Guilietta owned by a husband and wife English teaching team, I seem to recall them being decent people.
  • Immaculate Cortina Crusader which I am now convinced carried a plate issued some time after the Sierra turned up
  • Mk1 MG Metro in Opaline owned by a deputy head. He asked me about curing the problem with damp affecting the ignition when he spoke to me about my UCCA form.

Going back a little more there was the art teacher who drove an impossibly glamourous Stag and a PE teacher who had a Minor with the door bottoms pop rivetted up with bits cut off a hostess trolley. The janitor had a white Simca 1100.

How could I forget - drama teacher Clive Wilson had one of these

Austin Allegro 3 Equipe - VLG 929 W | My Classic Cars

I also recall looking at a 2CV Charleston in my junior school car park which had been left on full lock, and marveling about the crazy lean on the front wheels. There was definitely a MK1 Fiesta and a Metro too, as I can recall comparing their styling and concluding the Fiesta was better. I haven't changed my mind

Right so I'm only 19 now so I started school in 2006 and took my GCSEs only 2 years ago. So this isn't going to be particularly shite, however...

I had an IT teacher who drive a Fiat Seicento, there was the obligatory hippy-esque science teacher with his bright orange 1977 VW Camper and many a tale about his Beetle, one of the maths teachers had an early, dark green Multipla, someone had a Vauxhall Sintra which literally had masking tape holding a bit of trim on for one point. A supply teacher had a 1993 Rover 200 in metallic blue, another had a pretty early new Beetle with flowers and minion stickers all over it which we thought looked naff (rightfully so) and when I was in primary school the headmaster had a prefacelift MX5

Also there was the 2003 LDV Pilot school minivan which we never used, most likely as it didn't have a floor

Our woodwork teacher was "somewhat rotund" to put it mildly, and drove an Austin 1800 Landcrab and still had trouble fitting behind the wheel! We also had an art teacher, a great guy, who drove an Austin Metropolitan convertible, which, as the age of about 14 as we were then, we all thought was "really cool, sir!"

I was in secondary school about 8 years ago. One of my biology teacher had an early 90's Toyota Hilux with 2.8l Diesel. Proper builder/tradie's truck... She's actually a quite well off, proper lady, pushing 60 when I was in school. Owned from new and in 100% mint condition. She swears by it saying the usual "they don't make them like they used to" and "I wouldn't drive anything else". Still driving it to this day I believe.

So...

Primary(early-mid 90s) Reception teacher Mrs Parker had a Morris Minor Traveller that she'd had since nearly new, it was a slightly ropey old thing! Headmistress Mrs Atchison had an R8 Rover, and my Y6 teacher Mr Thornett had a white Passat B3. I remember my excitement even as a young'un when a supply teacher arrived in a 70s French estate which I had never seen before... But now I can't remember what it was...

Five years later and I can remember what it was, a Peugeot 204 estate!

I also recall my form tutor in secondary Mrs McColl had a Saab 9000 CDE and My German teacher Miss Bragg had a white K-Reg Toyota Corolla which she replaced with a Citroen Pluriel!

Where I work now there is very little interest in the car park (except whichever old rammel I turn up in). One of the art teachers had an original mini, but she crashed it... replaced with a figaro. There’s an orange Dacia Duster, an MR2 and a current gen MX5. But beyond that it’s a sea of grey, black, silver or white appliances.

This is a great thread, it is over 40 years since I started school so cannot remember all names.

Primary school the first year teacher had a new Mini 1000, third year teacher was a bit mad but had the best car I remember in the car park, it was a Magnum which was so much better than my dad’s Viva. I seem to remember Mr Humphries the headmaster also had a Viva. Mr Stokes the teacher in the final year had a light blue Beetle, possibly a Jeans. I clearly remember when we took our bikes to school to do cycling proficiency, the examiner arrived in a new Jupiter red mk4 Cortina GL with black vinyl roof. It was stunning and really stood out in the car park.

Comprehensive school :

Headmaster Mr. Hill (Benny) had a new blue Kadett fastback with rostyles, he retired and was replaced by Mr. Davies another GM fan, had a new Astra GL which I believe he kept but added a new mk2 Cavalier a few years later.

Deputy head Miss Thomas was known as Twiggy due I believe to her reputation for caning pupils, she was a really nice person but it was probably good to have a reputation where you were not messed with. She had a maize colour Marina, replaced by a new Horizon.

Mr Smith had a blue Fiat 132

Mr Moore had an Orange Chrysler Alpine Sunseeker

Mr Roberts (a dead ringers for Danny DeVito) had a platinum Rover Sd1 V8

Mr Fisher [metalwork) had a martini liveried Lancia Delta

Another metalwork teacher whose name escapes me had a Rover 80 or 90 and split screen Minor as his daily’s plus some vintage cars in garages around the school grounds.

Mr Blight (metalwork) had a mk2 Escort GL estate, replaced by a brand new Titan Blue Escort 1.6 Ghia mk3

Mr Owen (woodwork) had a tatty Renault 12, replaced by an immaculate mk4 Cortina 1.6L estate bought off the home economics teacher, she replaced the Cortina with a brand new black mk2 XR2.

Mrs Williams (Art) a lovely, rather large lady had an old Morris1000 which she replaced with a new Citroen Dyane   which always made us laugh when you saw her driving it as the suspension leant massively on the driver side.

Mr Bebb (art) had a blue Audi 100 possibly L reg 1972 replaced by a bronze later more plush looking 100 the same shape.

We had a dishevelled teacher at the school who never taught me but had a tatty white Corsair, replaced by a new or nearly new Citroen Visa.

Mr Morgan [geography) had a Marina, replaced after a couple of years by a roman bronze mk4 Cortina Ghia automatic.

Mr Poole (history) drove a scruffy Sherpa van

Mr Welsby had a Red Cavalier SR

Mr Hoare ( Physics) had a Daytona yellow mk3 Cortina XL with black vinyl roof until he crashed into the back of an invicar outside the school gates, he then had a disappointing Golf GLS.

Mrs Howells my house teacher had a new mk1 Astra 2 door with round headlights and a boot.

Mrs White the Welsh teacher had a red 4 door Astra L

Mr Hutt (French teacher) known as Jabba had a gold Renault 18

Another French teacher had a black Capri 3.0S

The Geology teacher was known as Shoestring due to his likeness to Trevor Eve, he  had a tatty 2 door early Escort mk2 which he replaced with a red mk3 Capri LS

Mr Fox (technical drawing) had a new Corsican blue Cortina LS, replaced by an 82 model Cortina GL with Crusader stripes

Mrs Hague (maths) had a new Córdoba beige Cortina L estate which she still had when I left 6 years later.

Mr Collier (chemistry) had an early Daytona yellow mk3 Cortina L with la cucaracha air horns, replaced in 1982 with a new Atlantic blue Cortina 1.6L.

School minibus was an old Bedford, possibly a TJ, I remember a school trip to Builth Wells where it would not go over 45 mph and really struggled on hills. One of the pupils parents donated a mk1 Transit but it was deemed to need too much welding so the old Bedford stayed in service.

I may have missed some but these are the ones that made an impression, I wish new cars were as exciting today.

Being at school in the early 90s was good for future chod spotting.

I recall one teacher having a Midas he’d built himself.

A very large English teacher with a BX. We used to watch it itself up and wonder/hope if it would fail spectacularly under the strain.

A gorgeous English teacher who used to roll up in a brand new E39 525i.

A German teacher with a Fiat Marea Weekend (estate?).

A science teacher with a perfect yellow Dolly Sprint.

And the Chairman of the Governors had a chauffeur driven Shadow II.

I've updated my list:

Red Y reg Ford Sierra base with grey grille, owned by the Welsh Mr Roberts, who was a CDT & IT teacher could get a bit scary if you didn't learn things quick enough!

Metallic Blue C reg Ford Granada estate, so quite a late one, owned by Maths teacher Mr "Master" Bate, who was a bit of a grump, not helped by the name!

White Saab 99 with an exhaust that looked like it was going to fall off, owned by Mrs Cassidy, I can't remember what subject she taught.

Grey Rover P4, owned by Drama teacher Mr Lancaster.

Red Jersey registered Citroen Visa soft top, owned by Art Teacher Mr Morrin, who looked a bit like Mick Hucknell.

Red G reg Rover Metro, owned by English teacher Mrs Wood.

Blue E reg Ford Sierra, owned by Art teacher Mrs Kerr.

Brown Mk2 Vauxhall Cavalier, owned by Maths teacher Mr Rakestraw.  Someone managed to drop something through the sun roof of it when he was driving past a high up open window.

Silver Volvo 700 series, owned by Mr Slee deputy head teacher.

White Mercedes C190, owned by Maths teacher Mr McInnes, who could have been Richard Whitley's trendier brother.

----

From primary school:

Metallic blue Mini, owned by Mrs Whelan 2nd year infants teacher

Yellow Hillman, owned by Mrs McGee 1st year juniors teacher - already a rare car in the early 1980s.

Maroon VW Polo breadvan, owned by headteacher Mr Lee, in one assembly he mentioned owning a VW Beetle at one time.

Taking about something else has recalled a further memory... in primary school a local vicar used to come and give assemblies. Canon Cyster was about 105 and drove a burgundy Triumph 2500... very very slowly.

At secondary school in the 70s there were a few cars that stood out.

Headmaster Mr Fanshawe had a late 60s Daimler 250 V8    (Mark 2 Jag equivalent).  In retrospect I realise that he had spectacularly good taste. Also lived to over 100.
Metalwork teacher Mr Gulliver bought a brand new L-reg Moskvitch estate in poo green/orange.
Hated woodwork teacher Mr Danvers had a pale blue C-reg Rover 2000
The first VW Golf I ever saw was a light orange coloured example owned by English teacher Mr McCullum.
Physics teacher Mr Gravestock had a white Escort Mexico
Biology teacher Mrs Batts drove an orange Triumph Spitfire

At school in the early 90s. My maths teacher had a Delorean. Sold it for a camper. Used to take us surfing in it on Wednesday afternoons.

I always preferred the physics teacher's mint green E Class estate however

One of the less-liked teachers in my school, when I was 15 or 16 in '96 or '97 had a tiny square 80s Fiat or something.

I remember the car getting surrounded by giant snowballs, almost as big as the car, presumably by some poor students who had fallen particularly foul of her wrath.

I didn't like her at the time by any means but hey she dared to drive something different at least!

At school from 1990 to 2002. Can't remember much of the teachers' car park from first school, these are mostly from primary and secondary. Off the top of my head...

Ms Parr, drama teacher, had a Skoda Favorit in dark red. Very very faded dark red, more of a matt burgundy.

Mr Sidaway, science teacher, had a blue 1302 Beetle.

Unknown, slightly sinister supply teacher who came in often had a red Mk3 Escort Cabrio. Unusually not an XR3i.

Ms Matt, English teacher, husky voiced and a bit MILF-ish, red Citroen AX.

Ms Nicholson, French teacher, completely mental - B12 Nissan Sunny, mostly red with a mismatched white door.

Ms DuBois, actually French teacher who taught French as well, also fucking mental - Mk1 Subaru Impreza Turbo.

Mr Eaton, English teacher - alternated between a Saab 900 Cabrio and a Mini Thirty special edition. Both in black.

Mr West, R.E Teacher, looked a bit like if Richard Branson developed a meth habit - Volvo 340 on a B plate. Very rough.

One of the teachers had a Renault 9 Biarritz, but unsure who it was. I remember thinking it was unusual even back then.

Ms Hill, history teacher, universally despised. Nickname was "Hitler" - Rover 800 Sterling

I cant remember much that stood out really.

I do remember a geography teacher in secondry school had a really scruffy triumph herald rag top that everyone took the piss out of.

I distinctly remember the 6ft 7 mr white folding himself in and out of his mk2 fiesta. That was a sight to behold.

Oh and the school minibuses were a pair of LT35's

The only teacher's car I can remember is a sporty looking Impreza owned by one of my primary school teachers, it stands out in my memory because she was the one tasked with teaching us about global warming and other such environmental stuff and I thought it was quite the juxtaposition at the time.

Only one I recall from around 1982 was a physics teacher by the name of Mr Hunter.  He had a Peugeot 604...this stood out as was utterly lush compared to anything else teachers had.....

Only a few have stuck in the mind.

Primary up to 1981- Mr. Rhys (Austin 7) and Mrs. Phillips (mkiv and v Cortinas - last one was a two tone Crusader - she'd buy a new one every couple years). Otherwise only remember the local vicar's champagne Mkii Escort which he used to drive from house to house over the Christmas period having 'only a small tot' of whisky each house.

Secondary

Ms ( not Miss or Mrs) Thomas - history - Rover 216 EFi in a nice Blue

Mr. Herbert - metalwork/DT - green Renault 6

Bill the technician - green MG Midget (purchased from Mr. Rees woodwork)

Boco - Welsh (used to administer an awesome bollocking) - red Saab 99 followed by a burgundy Saab 99.

Why do I remeber these vehicles over the others?

No bloody idea.

I bet the metalwork teach got some stick due to his name

Not a chance - old school - solid objects incoming, clip around the ear, ruler, cane - all on the options list.

Was actually a really sound bloke.

when I was 9 or 10 one of my teachers knew how much I liked cars so used to let me go and fetch stuff from her very early base model Metro, and a uni lecturer who came to teach us once a week did the same with his Renault 21, both trusting me with the keys.  I also got to go to another teachers mk2 Orion which had motorised central locking which I had never seen before. Another teacher used to let me start up his Honda Superdream.

My headmaster had a very late Marina in orange with an after market digital rev counter, which was a bit shitty for a head teacher in 1988. I wanted my dad to buy it off him when he was selling it but he told him not to touch it with a barge pole

Other random cars I remember from primary school, a beige mk5 Cortina Which I remember sounding cammy, a lovely 82 blue mk1 Sierra and a Fiat Croma which broke down once on my street as she was driving to school

How come so many people had perv worthy teachers? Not one of mine was in the least bit attractive

Had an English teacher called Miss Steele. She was proper boner material (to a 15 year old chap) and would sit on the front of ther desk when addressing the class. It was the only lesson where sitting at the front was obligatory. :D  :D
