Stupid numberplate question?

I remember that my parents were always offered a choice of plate by the Citroen dealer. Mainly chose the ones easiest to remember, although they nearly always seemed to be along the 454, 353, 656, 252 etc, the last xantia was V51 which was the only two digit one they'd had.

I had XGT3S on my brown mini clubman estate in the early 90s. Several times during the 4 years I owned it I got asked at traffic lights how much I wanted for it. The reg no, not the car. Probably should have flogged it but I was young and foolish and valued registration number authenticity over not being poor.

Had X 64 OOH on a stupidly battered white Citroen C15. No significance whatsoever.

I've got L92 JMJ.

It might be worth something if Jean-Michel Jarre ever decides he needs a Calibra with a 'private' plate.

i had D43 YRN on a mg maestro and used to get asked about what it stands for less so with current L24 TPO on the renner

Perhaps people just assume your name is Lionel and you are an arborist

B82 PEA was my first double-digit. Then the 2CV (C91 NUJ). Then the Mini (B61 UND). Audi 100 (D95 SMB I think). Reliant Scimitar (something with 75 in it). Citroen BX (C44 LGK, sold so I could buy a Nissan Bluebird - C416 LGK. Odd).

Good numbers I had, but weren't cherished numbers:

G234 GMS - X1/9 (I'm pretty sure my 480 was also a 234 sequence prior to my plate, but can't remember)

F22 RSX - BX 16RE - DVLA retained pre-1991 numbers below 21. Post 1991/2 (when the cherished number scheme began) they retained below 40-100 (can't remember where it cut off when - I think below 40 applied pre-91, K and L got below 101 then it was doubles, hundreds, sequential and triples IIRC.

B333 FWE - Audi 90 Quattro

B333-something else - grotty X1/9

J500 SSL on my 500SL, I think that was DVLA.

A2 LBC - Carlton GSi 3000 - definitely DVLA.

C40 TSH (I think TSH) - Opel Manta

E64 RSH (again, not 100% on the letter before the SH) - Fiat Uno 70SX that would have been my first car but I hated the damn thing.

And I bought C6 RTK for my Citroën C6 and left it there, wasn't going to need that again.

Still have A4 RTK, as it was bought as a present when the cherished number sales first started. It was first applied to a 1984-registered Chevette L and I got the piss taken out of that mercilessly at college. The only plate I really want is R170 SLK to go on my SLK - it's not applied to any car, but I think someone has it retained.

i had POH 513M which was quite bazaar as the phone number where we lived at the time was 680 1513

I acquired a Volvo 760 registered E33 XGD and as I quite liked having a locally-issued double digit plate I planned to transfer it onto the Council Estate but SWMBO went mental 'cos her name, albeit shortened, is Elle - Council Estate rego starts E113. E33 XGD went onto the 940LPT and is about to come off and go onto the Kia Pride as I've run out of servicable Volvos.

Not had any other two-digit plates from memory, though the Kia has an unusually high number of Vs (V694 UVV).

Double digits I remember are-

E36vem landrover 90

H97owc sierra ghia

G45juj Merc 230te

E36wtu pug 205

D96cpe Merc 560sec

J17bam Merc 420sel

All except the BAM were on the car from new. BAM was courtesy of a former keeper- surname bamford, who obviously never visits e bay as he'd have read a few listings and discovered it is worth* eleventy million.

How about a double double digit?

My first car was 6740 E on a 1959 100E Anglia.

You should get that white one on the road. Such a smart, clean design.

The Vauxhall Mokka with the personalised numberplate that spells something like MBOKKA is the most harrowing image I've seen on autoshite.

I had BHJ 55K on a Wolseley 18/85. Parents had a Galaxy new in 1996 - P65 LVW. Both the original plates.

N45 AGM on the 940 is original and therefore is probably not related to a previous owner attending a large number of Annual General Meetings.
