Anyone fancy driving a "smiley" banana engined transit from south London to Devon? Theres no cargo as such- except the van itself. Expenses including The sun for the dashboard etc covered

Drop me a pm

What's a banana engine?

(Not bidding for the job, just curious).

Going in the right direction so you may get some takers.

Not all were the 'Banana' version though, I think it was just the later ones. I still reckon these are probably the best diesel engines ever made.

Looks more Cumberland Sausage to me.

Wish i was nearer, my dream job this, love older transits. Will this have the gear stick on the floor rather than the dash? If so i better have a lie down in a drak room

Strong memories of my old man's smiley transit. Builders tipper. No turbo. That thing was slow but strong as an ox.

Got scrapped when the chassis rusted away. Engine was on about 280,000.

Starter motor on it was fucked, so it had a lump hammer on the dash, and the starting procedure was:

Unlock truck.

Retrieve hammer.

Open bonnet.

Twat starter motor with hammer. Repeatedly.

Sit back it cab.

Start engine.

Sadly, the expenses from here would be quite high I guess. Shame. I've got a quiet week ahead.

I’d love to do it, but not sure I can face that train journey again.  If I can find some pre ’95 shite to buy locally, then that’s a different matter..!

That sounds useful, where in Sarf London and where in Devon and which day/time?  I may just be able to mix it with getting my AX diesel back from Princetown in the middle of Dartmoor.

Shame you can't wait a few weeks, I'm off to Cornwall in July and could probably have done it on the way down.

Thankyou to all for offers of being a white van man, in the end I decided to plump for a granada mk2 estate instead. Equally good for dumping broken washing machines in laybys.

Oh! Photos! What happened to the black Granny?

Black granny still here, running fine now!

I'm getting a white granny to keep it company....

Don't forget to pop in for a cuppa

Ah! That the one that looks like a Ghia X on the outside but is actually a non-PAS (2-spoke steering wheel) 2-litre L?

Posted

Yes- keep fit windows, no pas, 2 ltr pinto, 4 speed; povo spec but with lots of bonnet for your money.

Oooh, nice!

Looks a hell of a lot cleaner than my battered old one! Any more pics?

Posted

Oof 2 litre pinto Granada estate with a 4 speed. The things shite dreams are made of although the transit is probably faster.

Is this Bens' from chorley? You should have a look at his fiesta, it'll blow your mind.

Posted

Yep its Ben's old one. I think hes put a bmw TD engine in a mk2 granada too!

Posted

Should be a good motor, i think he's got a mk2 cavalier calibre aswell for bonus shite points!
