daveb47 Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Sorry for downtime but out of my control. Dedicated server was still online and accessible through it's IPv4VPSs were still online but not accessible through IPv4Old server using IPv4 vMAC routing was working fineThis pointed towards an IP RIPE block routing issue (of which we have 3blocks). These are all pointed to a Virtual Rack 1.0 (vrack). We raised an incident request with our provider who said they wouldstart looking into it but there were no known issues with the vracks. Ihas suspicions they weren't being 100% with us.We bought and configured a new upgraded version of their vracktechnology (1.5), re-pointed the IP RIPE blocks and after somere-configuring of bridged adapters we were able to bring all serversback online. This shows there was a definite issue with the vrack 1.0. We haverequested they investigate into this as we think they are forcingcustomers to upgrade to vrack 1.5 by turning them off. Banger Kenny, Coprolalia, stillOrange and 7 others 10

Six-cylinder Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 What language is he speaking! Anyway good you have fixing us even if you did not need the 1/2 inch A/F spanner I was ready to lend you. UltraWomble 1
Cavcraft Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Cheers, Dave, nice work getting us back online. Banger Kenny 1
trigger Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Well done again Dave for keeping us going, although reading your post did make me go a bit like this. Louise2cv, New POD and KruJoe 3
KruJoe Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Those are words and numbers of which I know not. But I'm relieved and grateful to see the forum back. Cheers Dave.
skattrd Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Cheers Dave - it does sound a bit fishy that buying an upgrade makes everything work again ....
Asimo Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Thanks for the explanation Dave. I work on the fringe of the world of network engineering; I wish I could get explanations as good as yours of what goes on inside t'internet from colleagues.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Must admit, I thought that's what had happened Banger Kenny, mouseflakes, Cavcraft and 11 others 14
Bren Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Dave your language makes you sound as if you have been watching a clockwork orange. Banger Kenny 1
mouseflakes Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Has anyone checked on Junkman yet, to see he's ok? cms206 and Asimo 2
beko1987 Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Ah thank fuck for that! Had the shed apart, lawns mowed, patio is tidied, washing up is done... Was about to get so bored I was going to fettle with the car... Twiggy and cms206 2
stripped fred Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Thanks for sorting it! I've had to do jobs on the house and spend time with the family. tooSavvy and UltraWomble 2
Semi-C Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Phew... I thought I'd awoke in a contemporary adaptation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. The "ghost" of stuff to come had taken away Autoshite, the penance for parting with the Lada and dwindling my fleet's numbers down to 2. "Spirit, show us mercy and restore our beige nirvana. I'll make amends for the fleet deficit I swear.." Fan queue daveb47
Inspector Morose Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Judging by the responses above, We must really get out more. Semi-C, KruJoe, Twiggy and 1 other 4
fred Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Nice one Dave, Know not of your words of mystycism but its working now!
richardmorris Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 I was going to ask if you'd tried turning it off and on again? ( IT crowd is being repeated!)
Split_Pin Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Looks like a lot of work to fix AS this time, thanks for your work Dave. I fell behind with technology when they stopped making devices that had a pinhole in the back which you could slot a biro pen into and push and hold a little rubber button to reset everything.
Forty-two Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 I work in IT, specifically networks, I understood most of what caused the problem. As I read Vrack, I instantly think of boobies! Boobies broke it!
billyboy406v6 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Thanks Dave ! Can the next report be in English not Klingon ?
cms206 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Thanks Dave ! Can the next report be in English not Klingon ?
oldford Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 It sounds like the old points and condensor have been replaced with electronic ignition, which means more reliability & less maintenance, however when it breaks again it'll mean a wait for a new module and greater expense.
explosive-cabbage Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 How are AS finances at the moment Dave, do we need another boost from voluntary donations? Thanks for your work!
