ABC, it's easy as 345... VOLVO CONTENT

This looks GR11 in that NHS blue and should hopefully be a fairly easy recomission.

Looking forward to its eventual appearance at a Scotoshite event.

I could swear that just this afternoon I read about there being absolutely no more room for any more motors at Chez_CMS, especially Volvos. Even more especially broken Volvos.

I can see this is just what you need in your life Andy. Well done!

This is indeed true. But, like the Dogs Trust, I can never see a healthy dog put down. Especially a non-running NLVV blue 345. Any dog really.

Does it need much work for a test ?

No idea. Will find out soon enough!

What has the girlfriend said about it?

She doesn't know. Oops.

Divine!

I'm sure they sold these with Renault 1.6 diesels in FOREIGN, I'd love to see one with a later 1.9 turbo diesel. DRFTWPN

That's worth putting the work in to, interior is tidy and low miles. Get a respray and it's WIN.

Time to slip on the armoured Y-fronts methinks.

I fact, those residing in the scuttle of the Council Estate should do the job.

I believe the OMGDRIFTYO thing to do is put the final incarnation of the 1.7 pezzer engine in - the Megane 265bhp ultra megger engine will most or less* drop straight in.

Roughly related, Brotherly had 2 roadworthy ones of these, a 1.4 and a 1.7. I often used the 1.4 and can confirm they do have enough power on tap to provoke sideways action. Especially on £6 scrapyard wheel & tyre combos. They are a lot of fun for a new driver, and have supremely comfortable seats

Very foosty but extra shite points won for original tax disc holder, dealer plates and erm, the Evening Times window sticker.

And the obsolete ISO 9002 sticker, which dates from 1987.

FATHA Greengartside had one of these, a 1978 1.4 mills-matic in a slightly darker blue. Had all it's badges stolen off it when it was parked up outside my nan's house and then FATHA wrote it off in town after someone drove into the side of it. R.I.P XEX 481S. YU WIL B MIZZD.

How can it be a non runner?

I've never known a 300 to not run. Not even after 20 years in a hedge. Filthyjohn has an everything for Volvo 300s, so if you need a 5 speed box or any other bits, try dropping him a pm.

Good old tub of shite those volvos.

The only real weak link in them was that alloy propshaft,

(my early years of working in a scrapyard, involved flicking a lot of 340's on the sides and pillaging the shafts)

They either strip the splines or the rubber that the the splined shaft sat in getting perished, and spinning.

The half shafts can be a real pain to remove too, once rust has got a grip on the bolt threads.

Well bought.

Well done, that's brilliantly miserable.  Especially love this pic:

Red Bull gives you wings:  all you need now is sills.

Love it!

Ma_DS20 had one in this colour (it replaced her Renault 18), same engine but the automatic* gearbox. We loved it - the only thing it could've used was a rear wiper. It was a 340DL - C445TPE.

That looks fantastic. The Red Bull can looks like a shite Police blue light 80s cop show style.

Brilliant! Put a line of masking tape right down the middle and polish/fix/derust/concourse one side and leave the other side as is! (Barring any structural stuff it might need obv!)

Well bought. It looks awesomely grim in pogweaseled NLLV blue.

I say it doesn't run... I've not tried it yet. Gonna thieve the battery out the 740, grab some coolant and 5 litres of fresh pez to see if I can get a tune out of it tonight. Fingers crossed 'cos if it doesn't work the only spare Volvo lump I have is a B230FT.

Nice, I rather like that, nice shade of blue!

It looks ok, just a bit dirty and worn. Get it an mot and drive it as is!

What's the tide mark hiding though? Is it cover sills for mot repair or giffer style rust preventative painting?

Mine was starting to go around the rear jacking points, and the chassis legs where they curve up over the rear axle. Caught it in time though before it rotted through and waxoyled the hell out of it.

I've never driven a 1.4, only the 1.7 and 2.0 versions, they seem a bit 'hefty' for such a small engine!

The tidemark appears to be Schutz; the sills pass a knock test as all being the same material, be in MDF or otherwise.

The word EPIC is oft over-used. Not in this case, though. Congratulations, you've just won Autoshite.

Ps I swear I can smell that car from the pictures.

It smells of 20 year old B&H and degrading tulips.

Respray? And ruin it?!

I'd love to try a 1.4. Fancy a swap for a Carlton?

Not had any 340s yet... gimme a chance to hate it first! :)

Now that would be a terrible, terrible shame...

The bloke in Anglesey who's working on my Amazon built one for a customer using a later 340 and a 440 diesel that had been rear-ended.

Don't these, especially in Scotland, have the habit of the inner wings trying to return to dust before the rest of the car?
