Post 2000 cars you don't see anymore

Yes, 406s are disappearing quickly. At the peak there were 63 examples of my particular engine/trim/auto box combination registered. Just 5 left today.

Loads of 406s round these parts, only know of one other Coupe though

You don't see my old 2001 Citroen Xsara as I wrote it off crashing into the back of a taxi whilst giving EVILS to a Porsche driver who cut me up.

Mk1 Skoda Octavias are rapidly vanishing. Same goes for Mk1 Fabias

Ok it's not a car, but my l300 shitsubishi of 2001 vintage is getting very thin on the ground. Saw my first 'other' one on the m1 last week.

Also mk2 neons ?

Minicabbed into oblivion.

Posted

I would say 90% Octavias I've seen in the UK were cabs, so yeah, they will have been worked to death.

Bloody tough cars though, ideal for minicabbing.

Daihatsu Sirloins seem to have all but vanished too

Posted

I saw three Micra K11s within 15 seconds of each other, indeed two were parked together, so obviously life expectancy is increased when they herd together for safety.

I thought it was just me who called them sirloins

I haven't seen a Perodua Kenari in a while... thankfully.

Or a Citroen C6...

If all post 2000 cars had vanished tomorrow morning, I'd die of joy.

The bloody undertaker would need two hours to get the grin off my face.

So then goodbye to Jaguar XJs, Alfa 156s & GTs, Subarus, Volvo S60s, VW Lupos, RX7s, Nissan 350Zs, Citroen C6s, Renault Avantimes, Fiat 500s, Pandas & Multiplas etc etc...

Weird comment.

You'd be suprised at how many are being shipped out to Africa. They still love Peugeot saloons according to my mate who has friends dotted around the continent. He's a kind of one man band charity and helped a few people ship 406s over, so they could start new jobs as taxi drivers or replace their 405s or 505s which parts are starting to get hard to find for. 406s and minibuses are worth their weight in gold in a few places out there, according to him. It would go some way to explaining why there's more 406 estates left than there are saloons.

Yes.

Since I made my earlier comment, the west Midlands seem to have had a delivery of small Nissans...

Posted

That makes sense. A Nissan QX or whatever isn't worth jack here, but probably a status symbol in poorer contries, and the best thing since sliced bread when you see the heaps still running around in some places in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

A lot of the large saloons seem to get bought up by migrant workers who ship them off back home.

A few years ago, a Bulgarian bloke who was working round here took a shine to a local Scorpio, bought it, then drove it back home when his contract finished.  When he landed another contract, he drove the frog-faced munter back.

RHD Scorp, Cardiff dealer sticker, BG plates.....

I used to work with a Polish guy, I got on really well with him thanks to a shared love of cars! He regularly used to buy cars and vans, then him and his mates would drive them back to Poland. They used to sell them on over there for good profits or strip them down for parts and made a lot of money that way.

He took all sorts of stuff over from Transit vans, big luxury cars and even small stuff like Corsas and Micras. He took a Lexus Soarer back one time and made an absolute mint on it for what he paid here. He also once bought an R reg Mondeo estate, and filled the boot/back seat area with two mopeds and shit loads of lap tops/PC's.

He used to laugh at us Brits for being so wasteful buying new cars all the time when there was nothing wrong with the old ones except for the number plate had last years letter on it!

Proton Satrias and Wiras all seem to have disappeared from the roads of Cumbria by now. Even the Gen2 is getting thin on the ground, despite being a bit newer. Plenty of Savvys still lurk around the car park of the local Aldi and Iceland though.

There also used to be shedloads of Daihatsu Fourtraks around here too. All of a sudden, there's virtually none. Not sure if these made it past the years 2000 though .....

Suzuki Wagon Rs all seem to have ambled into the great scrapyard in the sky as well, but plenty of their Agila cousins survive. A function of the usual secondhand buyer of these things being happier to buy a Vauxhall than a Japanese car, maybe?

I never said hello to them and wouldn't miss a single one of those soulless appliances.

I can't agree with you there Junkman.

There is some cool desirable stuff on that list on just the same way that there was some awful soulless rubbish produced in the 70s 80s and 90s.

It is the car not the era that matters to me.

Good !!

Posted

I see more Pluriels as rolling advertisements for Pluriel roof fixing companies than I do as transport

Posted

Pluriels always remind me of those foam oasis things you put cut flowers into . Nothing absorbs water like a pluriel
