Internet rabbit hole led me to this, an AMG version of the 1990s MB commercial series, with up to 120odd BHP

Cool, no?

Well Brabus weren't getting left out, so they had a go too

A joint venture between two manufactures, the Hupmobile Skylark  and Graham Hollywood...

The Skylark...

undefined

And the Hollywood...

undefined

Does that basic body look somewhat familiar? If it does then it's because both cars are based on the bodywork of the Cord 812! But now RWD and sporting inline-6's!

I always say this whenever they're mentioned, but I'm pretty sure the Graham Hollywood (great stage name) is probably the only instance where a model was replaced by a design which was older than the car it was replacing... which just shows how modern the Cord was, although obviously it's diluted a bit in Graham form

Looks like something SsangYong forgot to draw.

Safari? I think that, in their death throes, Rover dealers were given a few of these to try and sell alongside the ShittyRover.

Tata Sumo apparently, Saw a few more over there - indeed, quite a few Tatas of all types. In the UK we had the Safari and the earlier Gurkha, which must be well nigh extinct by now. Plus the Loadbeta pickups, which I think were a little bit thicker on the ground but started dissolving as soon as they left the factory floor. Years since I've seen one here.

One Tata I'd never been aware of was the Tata "Estate"

Looks like a Merc S124 as if it was poorly described over a crackly phone line. Based on the guts of a pick-up, with a 68bhp Pug diesel.

Because who wouldn't want a cylinder of Hydrogen a few inches above their head?

Drive that back? Epic thread.

(I don't think I've ever seen one of these on UK plates???)

I had one on my driveway for a while, found by @greengartside in a local scrapyard and @Mr_Bo11ox bravely tried to get DVLA to lift the Certificate of Destruction. Sadly no go, and it eventually got sold to a guy who needed the parts for restoration of a rotary-engined RX4.

Even by the standards of Japanese cars of the time it had some intriguing/bonkers detailing.

Ah, I wondered what became of that scrapyard save 929 - sad that it wasn't possible to rescind the CoD, given its immense rarity, but good that it managed to help other cars live on anyway!
