^^^ what have they done to the poor Sunbeam Alpine? And is that a Daimler Dart in the corner, trying not to be seen?

Saw a VW van with "all electric" plastered all over it but I didn't recognise it as a Transporter or Caddy. Didn't think the ID Buzz existed as a van yet?

This base spec one was parked up at the local VW van dealer (who also do cheap car hire) six months ago:

Apparently you can now buy a new Moke...

Yup, I papped this one in Eastbourne back in March, though not seen it on that driveway since.

They've given it a ridiculous nose job, it's like it's wearing a comedy clown nose.

There was the Belmont ( maybe an older model than this) which was a bit ugly with the boot tacked on as an after thought.

I'm sure there was an imitation Moke kit car back in the 80s that looked like this, deliberately not quite right to avoid infringement of BL's design. Maybe it's based on that rather than a real Moke.

This exciting looking carriage is a Renault Austral. The sole example I've seen had a E tacked on the end of its name to show its green credentials

All of the hybrid/EV renaults are called e-tech.

The Austral is a hybrid. Also available as a Nissan Qashqai e-Power.
I think it's been mentioned already, but the Scenic is returning. Funny enough, the designer left Peugeot for Renault.
You really can't tell why

The 1961 P100 Paloma prototype was proposed as the new Trabant but the project was abandoned in favour of the 601, the Trabant we all know and love*.

Proposed to be a Wartburg as well; front engined as a Trabi and rear engine as a Warti? 🤔

Ford Econovan a Mazda van camouflaged as a Ford. Don't understand why Ford sold these next to the Transit.

Hell, I really like that.  I suppose one definite sale was not enough to sway the accountants or party officials.

Yeah, it looks a lot better than the 601 but, back at the height of the DDR, the final consumer had very little sway in consumer goods design.

More likely they had to consider the centralised allocation of raw materials, workers, energy etc. Cost of manufacture, in a command economy, would not have been the primary consideration.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 601 was chosen over the P100 because it was made from plastic, 'Duroplast', which not only freed up metal for other products, but recycled waste cotton and waste fibres from the textile industry. The DDR was very big on recycling, long before it became trendy.

There would also be a political decision - the 601 was more in keeping with the utilitarian ethic of the Workers Party, the P100 looks very western. Trabants were exported to other bloc countries so western sales (left to Wartburg) were not a consideration. Having said that I can't help thinking that the bright green 601 was more than a nod to the bright colours seen in the west in the 1970's.

Somewhat muted colour chart. Champagne Beige is very much a clash of cultures!

Don't know if it's the same one but a guy called Bob Shaill found the original in London and spent years restoring it. Now in VW's museum

I remember this being in VolksWorld back in the 1990s. It also featured in the Vintage Volkswagen Club of America magazine. The car was still a shell back then.

There is thought to be only one of these left, but rumours suggest that maybe 10 or more were built.

A good video here

I've heard of the Peel P50 and the Peel Trident, but not the Peel Viking...

May be an image of 1 person

According to a mate of mine who recently dragged these two out of the pictured garden on behalf of their new owner, they are two of only 24 made.

I saw that Peel Viking back in 2015. Based on bits of rusty Mini.

Here it is again parked next to a Tici Citi Car, another use for rusty Mini parts.

You'd need a lot of self-confidence to drive around in a fibreglass cheese wedge with a numberplate that almost says GAY FOOL.

Looks more like a grit bin to me than a wedge of cheese.
