Don't think I've any pics but list goes 1973 164 auto, 1976 245 manual LHD, 1979 244 GL manual. All in about £600.... The 164 was the least economical car I've ever owned and I've had some shockers.

I really fancy a 240. Been on fleabay looking and I,m keen. Prefer a saloon so that should bring the price down a couple of ton.

I reckon the 240s, particularly the GLT, are about 5 minutes away from shooting up in price..buy now!

Ive had a few.

Only had 2 Volvos myself,an ancient 480 turbo ES which lasted 2 days before it's wiring loom literally melted

And the current 850 GLT T5 of ex-Scooters and Corsaviour fame

Can usually be seen upsetting the local chavs who don't get how an old volvo can just get a move on.......

Still wearing its rust with pride and apart from the slight oil weep marking its territory here and there, it's proving to be a good workhorse

That said,if someone was to take a shine to it then I'd let it go as theres this black 306 that I know of.....

I had 360 gls as my second car and it's in the top 5 worst cars I've ever had so that put me off .

I recently and briefly had 2.9 s80 and that was a really nice car.

My mate was trying to get me to buy his rica remapped t5 estate a few weeks ago but insurance difficulties stopped it / saved me.

This was my only Volvo and it was a disaster. 11 years old and rotten with rust, worn out engine, then the torque converter freewheel seized (max speed 30 mph, single figure mpg), all the lights went out at once..........

Another car bought with optimism alone. Been scared of buying another Volvo ever since just in case.

The only Diesel on my bucket list is a 240, ideally a 2 door with overdrive box. Should be easy to find  :?

My old Volvo 940 diesel, it was ace, but needed shitloads doing to it due to me treating it like a van and commuter car in one.

I understand the clocks are going back tonight so I will use the time wisely and show you another Volvo picture.

The car is a 1989 740 GLE Auto I owned in 2010, a passer by stopped at the house and asked if I wanted to buy it! The load is a side by side fridge freezer is 910mm wide 1700mm high and 700mm deep and fitted just fine with the boot closed.

Christ, that must have cost all of £1.20 in shoe leather to go and fetch, did your wallet cope?

I m Scottish and have owned NO VOLVOS unless you count the many scale model examples and brochures I have. Love them.

Reason is that I was brought up on them. Dad's first one was a 1.4 340, A442ESX, followed by a lacklustre MK 2 Cavalier estate (never been a fan of them as a result). He saw sense and bought a 2.0 injection 240 estate in gold F93SSF which was much more of a car. At the time he always hankered after a 740 but it was just out of his price range. Replaced by a BMW 318 Touring ad then bought an early big-lights 850 glt saloon. My mates dad got an estate one at the same time so thtt was quite fun. Then after a nice SAAB he got an S80 which I thought was a bit bland but would like one now. He now has a diesel s60 which I'll see if I can get a pic of today. It has too few 90 degree angles for SVM though!

Sorry, I forgot about another Volvo I owned. Well, I owned half of it with Overrun. Then it went to Filthyjohn, then became tins of peas.

Early but post nosecone 3 door 343:

Wrong way wipers but no quarterlights, that's an odd one. All early series 2 340s were so equipped, in 3 or 5 flavour.

I am posting this in memory of my best mate who sadly recently passed away.

He spent loads of time and money on this PV and toured Europe with it a few times.

All the best 740 estates are that nice darkish grey colour. Unless they're gold with a blue tailgate, they're much betterer.

We have had a blue 740 estate and a gold one but never together, I was 2nd or 3rd on the list when yours was up for grabs!

Don't think I've posted in here yet!

My first one, 21st birthday present to myself for less than a grand. TDi manual from an enthusiast and mechanic. Had an engine swapped a year before I bought it, with new clutch, belts, pumps, pulleys etc in the process so I was pretty confident in it.

This was when I sold it 9 months and 20,000 miles later, it never dipped below 45mpg from the VAG lump. I had ditched it on a diesel covered backroad one morning, hence lack of foglights (bumper, front wing ans osr door replaced, bonnet out of line...)

My second one was this beast, T5 auto C70 on lpg. Miss it terribly! Bought it at 179,000, sold it 18 months later at 205k, didn't need much in the time I had it, and it saw off a fair few 'performance' cars...

Bought this off gumtree at a distance of 300 miles, which was a mistake. Kept it a few weeks and punted it on as it was dog rough and not even close to as described. Epic stereo and seats though!

Useful as a workhorse when they're already stinking though...

My first car was an '84 340DL 3 door back in 1996, one owner from new and 36k on the clock. I was no Volvo fanboy but they were a surprisingly low insurance group and RWD. A good motor if very, very beige (literally and figuratively).

Three years later I bought an early ('90) 440GL mainly because it was the first one I'd seen under a grand in the classifieds. After a couple of days my mum forced me to sell it to my brother for his first car. It lasted him a good few years. The steering was very heavy (no PAS) and the dashboard rattled like crazy.

My brother then had a brace of 740GLE 2.3 saloons later on; an '85 first which then failed the MOT on brake pads and exhaust. At that time (2006) the price of scrap was so low it was cheaper to buy a replacement car so it was sold to a banger rally team for £50 and £112 changed hands for a '90 facelift model with 6 months' ticket and proof of cambelt change. Oddly the earlier car had a regular 5 speed 'box while the newer model had the more traditional 4+OD setup.

This lasted a couple of years before my brother decided he no longer needed a car, so I sold it for him. As I was in between cars at the time I used it for a couple of weeks; great seats, predictable handling, knackered headlining and instruments. I drove it to Leamington Spa and back for work one day and 50 miles passed before the speedo started working (the fuel gauge never did).

No Volvos since but I do fancy an early 2-litre S60 in the future.

My 2 and a half

My first - 480ES 1.7 non-turbo

post-3880-0-46217800-1414782972_thumb.jpg

Got this in '97, had it 5 years. It had all the usual's - heater worked when it felt like, water leaks in the boot that got so bad rear passengers complained about damp clothes, blew a hole in the gearbox casing when it tried to engage 2 gears at once, drivers A post rotted and the door hinge fell off. etc.

- note the rear wheel arch "repair" in the pic -  I bought a N.O.S complete side panel from a slightly camp fellow 480 owner who I met previously at a Volvo breakers in a clandestine deal outside Warrington railway station for £80.

The half

(Apologies for the poor photo - I was practicing Poor Photography Skills for the ebay ad I planned to sell it in - it got tipped in the end when a garden shed fell on it before I had chance to advertise.)

Nice car when it worked, I'd happily have another, but a 2 litre "Volvo version"

My 2nd - C70 2.4 non-turbo (I don't have a problem with turbo's, but my insurance company does..)

post-3880-0-26704800-1414784434_thumb.jpg

Got this in '03, kept it since, paid 12k for it - its the best car I've ever owned - I never planned to keep it this long, but life got in the way - and I don't consider it as "Autoshite" in the slightest*

*Stupid Deluded Fool Alert.

Such is my respect for all things Ovlov, I have started a photo thread in the "United Kingdom" section of the U.S "Swedespeed" Volvo forum (sole poster = me) of the spotted stuff - I love the idea of confusing Americans with which state Glossop is in the U.S of A

I've had this for the last six years. Very relaxing to drive partly because it is a 1.6 so you kind of need to dawdle everywhere. Never let me down but brakes have needed ££ thrown at them. Car is mint except some stupid bint put a parking dent into one of the doors. As a run out model comes with all the bits and pieces. My favourite is the fully fitted rubber mats, for some weird reason........

Also got a C30 but that is too new for here.
