Nope, but there are some of the same 'faces'. I was actually put off joining this place for a while by what (admittedly little) I'd seen of the Facebook group.

It's Albertross of this diocese init. No idea how similar the membership is though. I suspect there's a few more tubes on the FB page.

I look at it but don't post 'cause I'm scared of FB.

It's like Autoshite for the infantile. Mr Welch is a bloody saint for putting up with some of the morons who manage to post things up on there. A few seem to 'get past the door' here right enough though.

Couldn't have put it better, Iain. There were some that frequent that webpage (last time I looked) that you wouldn't want to find this forum in a million years.

To put it bluntly the group is fucking awful, I some times comment but that's mainly as it come up in my news feed when someone starts trouble on there for some reason.

I decided enough was enough and "unfollowed" the group yesterday after a incident yesterday where Electric Leyland stepped in thinking some domestic violence was going on in a post and got flamed by the couple in question, it's fucking embarrassing.

Can we not kill it off? It was so dreadful, so long ago that I quit it.

The longer it shares a name with this forum, the more likely we are to get idiots in here. I know we can deal with it but it detracts from what a currently lovely (touches wood) place this has become.

Posted

The trouble is that if it ever closes down there is a fair chance that their members will find their way to here............

Seems a poor reason to keep it open. Or just rename it so it isn't associated with this place. I suspect the mouth breathers that use the Facebook group simply can't be arsed to join an actual forum though. Even if they do, I can't see them lasting long.

I have never been able to put a forum name to a user here due to the fact i have never met anyone here in person. There is some right twats kicking off on there and talking shit. Lets hope it doesnt bring this place into disrepute though.

FB associations completely destroyed a 1950s forum I belonged to - for some reason the bloke who ran it decided to link it to FB.   There will soon be an addition to the OED - Facebook (fae-ceesBoek) v.t. - "To mis-construe a valid statement and without further consideration utter expletives via the fingertip as if they were connected to the penile tissue"  ---- Or something like that anyway.   I once constructed a facebook page of my very own.   It lasted about eight minutes.  I never knew so many people (many of whom I thought of as friends) could act with such fuck-wittery.   Never again.

It's awful, typical no-brain Facebook types, posting up pictures of their 2004 BMW 3 series asking 'Is this shite', or even just 'Here's a photo of some random car I spotted/my newish car'. It's the same with every car group on there, you get people putting pictures up and then an argument starts about whether it's relevant or not, as well as people offering their services as tyre fitters/roofers, etc. Facebook IS the internet in some people's eyes.

Most people who start these groups can't be arsed moderating it, so it ends up full of 40 something blonde bimbos and thick twat, MMA-watching meatheads with sleeve tattoos whose life aspiration is to own a 2014 plate car.

And I've only looked on a couple of these groups, I expect they're all like this.

The endless posts of a grey Peugeot 306, a red MG ZR and OMGHGF "jokes" were enough to push me over the edge.

Well I like it, partly because of the feckless morons on there. I honestly don't see a problem.

Posted

There's a few folk on here that post on that Facebook but it's main use seems to be irrelevant nonsense and arguments.

I have a facebook account that my son set up for me. I have never used it because people who have been dead for some time keep asking to be my friend.

I presumed it is the 21st century ouija board.

The perennial irritation returns. There's actually two Facebook groups under the Autoshite name, both equally depressing.

I've had plenty of grief off its resident 'experts'. The thread on the legality of trespass was particularly amusing, especially when one bloke decided to 'out' me as a hypocrite by posting up a picture I'd taken of my own car parked in its garage. Never mind, eh?

Tempers flare too quickly in there - with Facebook being an active, real-time resource the mood can go from 'misinterpreted comment' to 'all-out shit storm' in a matter of minutes. The recurring threads are tedious and appallingly punctuated - there's only so many times a badly framed phone snap of a brand-new Mercedes stays amusing.

Occasionally, an interesting topic will result, so my advice would be to browse without posting - although if you want breathless, badly informed hysteria I can heartily recommend the AROnline Facebook group, which has proved morbidly fascinating.

Although the AS Facebook group acts as a filter I reckon the forum needs to cut ties with it before it gets dragged down as well.

I saw a thread on the Facebook page a few days ago where they were talking about setting up some kind of meet & based on the quality of posting I would think there is a high chance of it being frequented by morons which could potentially reflect badly on the "proper" forum here.

I would personally advocate looking into finding a way of shutting the Facebook page or at least making them change the name.

Dont fucking tell me where tempers flare the quickest! Thats exactly what I would expect from someone that "parks their car in their own garage". Blah blah, two more pages then a refference to Hitler.

Am I doing Faecbook right?

I dont think that there is any way of doing this, unless of course someone knows better

You'd have to 'speak' to whoever owns that page on FaceAche or is admin or something I reckon.

Possibly Albert Ross is the man, he's put a lot of hard work into I think and it's a shame it's been hijacked by morons.

I like trying to figure out which people on the facebook group are on the forum, I've found a few so far. I once told someone to Fuck off, he said I was a piece of work!

Right, I'm off for a round of fucks.
