That sucks hugely. I've had all my tools robbed twice since 2001. Now everything is in steel portable building which I sited next to my workshop then incorporated it into the structure. It's mega secure with steel shutters over the windows and 1" steel bars behind them, steel doors for which I made my own double locking setup... plus it's alarmed and has CCTV covering it. It's annoying having to go to such lengths just because of sticky fingered low-lifes but that's how it is these days.

I've also had stuff stolen - welder, compressor, generator, 1,000's of pounds worth of my dad's snap on tools.

I left them in my garage as I was working on building my Seven kit car. They must've broken in, saw that I needed these tools as I was working on the car, and just took them anyway. I don't think they assumed they were mine and the amount of hassle it had caused me.

They actually -came back- a week later and took the rest of the stuff. I ran a thick wire across the bottom of the floor, and I think one of them tripped up as there were drops of blood on the floor, and they had completely destroyed everything that was in there.

 

Worst feeling finding the broken lock and seeing nothing inside.

Sadly this seems all too common. Our neighbour farmer's wife was assulted when she came across a man trying to steal the farm's quad bike. Since then they have had two other break ins but the stout chain and massive dog have worked.

 

We are near the Tony Martin farm and one of the local houses has a sign

never sure that is a very good idea as the police would come down on you like a metric ton of bricks if there ever was an incident.

Thanks folks. Insurance.....Heh that's a joke. It was covered by the insurance policy that covers the farm buildings and which costs us a fortune. We were broken into in November. £20k worth of compressors and tools stolen. May, broken into again a large electric compressor a smaller one and half a dozen power tools went. June. They broke into another building. Dragged a 5 tonne concrete block out of the way and stole our caravan. Now this. We are in a legal battle with the insurers over the initial break in. This break in really pisses me off because I had cleared all my stuff out and secured it into a sealed container only for my prick of a business partner to move it back into the building. As such if we are going ro be able to claim it will be another fight with the insurance company

Trust me on this. Business insurance especially farm insurance companies are as big a crooks as the burgulars.

 

I'm really gutted the total cost of all this equipment doesn't even begin to include the broader costs we have incurred as a result the company is no longer viable as an operation so we have to close with the loss of 4 jobs.

 

We are one of a dozen local sites which have been targeted by a gang of travellers over the last 6 months we have chased them off the site on several occasions but you can't be thee all the time. We installed cctv. They nicked it. They pissed all over printers and filing cabinets s as well.

 

What's the fucking point in trying to run a business and employ people these days? If it's not red tape it's the fucking idiots in the bank of its not bog business paying you six months late it's dishonest suppliers. You work your arse off and this happens. I was asked by an investor if i would consider starting another operation in hexham with 8 new hires. That's 8 jobs in a town which needs them. I've said no because I'm so pissed off with what happened in West Lothian I have turned my back on the whole fucking shebang and want nothing more to do with it.

In the meantime I will personally have to honour about 15k of debts incurred in the wake of the first break in because although it's a Ltd Co. I have responsibilities to the guys who worked for me.

These were.my personal tools that I had lent to the business until we could have afforded to replace the original ones stolen.

We had been speaking to west lothian council about taking eu investment and taking on apprentices and another 10 guys for w lothian. A big business case had been made and I'd secured potential contracts to keep everyone in work. This morning I called them and told them that the business would be closing due to the impact of the crime in the area. I told them that all their business investment is a total waste of time unless they can provide basic policing for these types of sites. As it happens this has cost the area 5 jobs and another 10 potential hires.

 

I'm not fucking doing it again.

How do you know it was one of 'them'? I've heard of opportunists and professional criminals using the fact there's travellers in the area as a cover, knowing they'll get the blame.

Because the polis caught one of them for the first crime and he peaches on the others. The kit is stolen and shipped to hamburg before being sent to Nigeria. They hit farms using HGV s and Hiabs. In the surrounding 10 miles 9 farms been done in 12 months. Perp is on trial in December. Cctv also caught large gang unmarked lorry trucks and motorbikes. Hit farms just after dusk ...farm next door lost a tractor and 3 large compressors. On 3 occasions we chased pedestrians away from the premises they were photographing the contents of the sheds ..Typical mullets hoodies oirish accents and when we reported the vehicle they for into on the main road it had hookey plates.

I know the traveller community gets a lot of flack but the evidence is against them. They are not local and have been reported by the local traveller community . Eire passports and vehicles registered in Poland.
