I spent a few months with a corsa c 1.2 and tbh it wasn't bad. Wouldn't kick a little diesel one out of bed... 

@Cavcraft, reckon you could find me a tidy in the right places diesel 5 door astra or corsa for about £3/400 in March? Could drive £120 of scrap up to you...

This was slightly over budget at £225, couple of months mot. I've loaned it out to two friends - semi long term! I've MOT'd it now. Needed a couple of part worn tyres, two small brake pipes..... and something else I can't remember. It's a keeper for the time being as a back up - spare car - loaner - etc
