Seriously rare shite you owned

As far as I'm aware, my Innocenti is the only Daihatsu-engined example in the country.  That's probably the rarest of the current fleet, although the Solara, LNA, Stanza and Renner Six are all fairly uncommon.

Probably the rarest car I've ever owned was the Rayton Fissore Magnum.

According to Howmanyleft I think there are only 2 Citroën Visa Leader 10e in the country but I have no idea how many are incorrectly registered.

I had possibly the only remaining RHD Audi 100 Typ 43 Avant.

I also have 2 of the 30 or so remaining Hillman Hunter GLS'

And 1 of the 6 or so Talbot Tagora SX's

We have a Mk1 Discovery which although not rust free (yet) doesn't leak any water in, and hasn't for the last 6 months! That must be pretty rare!

From 2002 to 2005 I owned this (the full fat 3 litre version), and never saw another of them on the road during that time:

And lastly, this I still own:

Supposedly from How Many Left there are 15 in total of the various models, of which mine is the earliest GSL in existence and the only one from 1985.

No photos but I used to own a w-reg mk1 Scirocco Storm in metallic green with full black leather interior. Wish I still had it.

My w-reg Talbot Solara SX wasn't even common in 1984 either, let alone now.

My Opel Kadett B was probably the rarest car that I've owned, they only sold in very small numbers in the UK when new, especially with the 1196cc engine and mine hadn't even been restored. The current owners had the engine out over winter and repainted it as all the engine bay.

Both my old Alto and Civic are also very rare now but they were much more common when new.

Re Junkmans 2.6 Carlton CDXi Estate I would say that is rare.

In the 90s all my dad drove was Carltons and whenever looking for another one 95% were 1.8 or 2.0 GL or CD, maybe the odd 2.6 Diplomat. So I call RARE on the 2.6 CDXi Estate.

A 3.0 GSi was always on the wish list but he moved onto the Omega.

Not as rare as some others granted, but....

I used to own this:

And now own this:

11159059314_3c0cea42fb_z.jpg

11159024056_80716bc421_z.jpg

Both cars were early Rover Sterlings equipped with the 2.5 Honda V6 rather than the 2.7. The 2.7 was introduced in 1988, the 2.5 lasted from 1986 to 1988. Also, the early cars had 'Sports mode' on the gearbox as post 1988 V6 800s did.

I also own this:

Got to be the Renault 6, being a facelift model it makes even the Princesses I've got look commonplace.

Before the Allroad, the owd giffer had the saloon version of Junkman's Carlton. He owned it for 14 years; it only died because a "specialist" forgot to earth it properly while doing a small welding repair, frying the entire electrical system. Were manual CDXs all silver...?

Also, while the Merc W124 is still not exactly rare, the 300E appears to be.

I had a lovely little low mileage gem 1983 metallic brown VW Polo which was called a Classic

It was in GL trim and had a boot rather than a hatch and Square headlamps (Rather than round) with washers and came with a radio cassette so must of been very upmarket back in the day...

It was a lovely little motor to drive and was quite nippy with its 1.3 engine the only problem was I got caught with the GTi bug so I gave it to my brother rather than sell as I wanted it to go to a good home..

Little did I know that he would give it to his then girlfriend who over a 2 year period managed to put a dent in every panel then scrap it.

He won't be getting any more cars off me.. I've never seen another on the road.post-9282-0-63876400-1395579477_thumb.jpg

The Mk2 bullion van. Only two were made for the Bank of England and only one reg number 20 either side of ours has gone off the DVLA so its fair to say ours is the only one of the two left....

These were never that common in the UK, so even when I had this back in the mid 80s it was very unusual to see another one...

But by the time another 25 years had passed, this one was one of only about half a dozen survivors in 2010.

Are those Carlton seats as comfortable as they look (i.e fabulous)?

My parents had the previous model boxy Carlton and those were very comfortable pews to sit on. :)

I did own a Fiat Tempra for a year. Fairly hard to spot even in the early 2000s. Mine was the poverty 1.4 litre model. Spotted another similar to mine with black bumpers but I wasn't sure if it was a 1.4 or the better 1.6 model with standard power steering.

Currently the Cavalier. There is (I'm told) only six 1.4 models left, and mine being a saloon is possibly the only booted one out there.

Previously:

Cavalier Mk2 Calibre, it was fairly rare when I had it and numbers seemed to dwindle as months went by. Wish I still had that.

Vectra 2.0 ST, I think it was number 193.Very tidy and standard, another I should have kept.

'M' reg Carlton last year, probably one of the very last registered. Went to someone on the Carlton forum so hopefully leading a charmed life.

These two are both fairly rare

IM000333-1.jpg

Only around 300 MG Expresses made, most seem to be diesels but mine is a 1.8 VVC. Xantia V6's aren't that common either.

My old Alfa 155 was fairly rare,it was a late V6 with Sportpack, most of the last ones seem to be 1.8 or 2.0.

I also had a Mk 5 Cortina 2 door,although it had a 2.3 V6 so not a 1.3 any more.

Was that Total Carlton, Billy?

Any idea of the buyers username?

I once owned a h plate diahatsu applause. 1.5 efi. Efi in big letters across top of windscreen and on the rear glass. Looked like a saloon but was actually a hatchback. Well equipped as i think most jap cars of that era were. Leccy windows, mirrors, roof and a/c. Power steering was stupidly light though.

Yes.

Every vauxhall Ive owned has destroyed my back to drive. Senators, Astras, Cavs, Vectras and even the Fronterror ive got now. However, out of the 2 Carltons Ive owned, both were a dream to drive. Infact, the 2.0 auto made it 3000 miles up to the arctic circle without killing my back! :D

Hmm, not that rare or unique but off the top of my head:

1957 Warburg 311

1983 Warburg 353s (yup there was a sporty version. Twin choke carb webber copy and everything)

198? Fiat Regatta diesel

196? Berkley T60

1982 Suzuki SC100

1973 Opel GT

1952 Austin A30 AS3

Erm, others too but can't remember.

Ginetta G15 hatchback, I think Ginetta only made one, besides the one off hatch the rear quarter windows and moulding were different from standard G15.

Some of you have seen my red Sunchaser at various North West shows.

Based on the Generation 2 Toyota Celica ST Coupe it was originally thought that 12 were converted at the Aston Martin Tickford coachbuilding section for a firm called Griffith International in the early 1980's.

Further research by myself has shown this was the initial batch done on new cars after a car was displayed on the Tickford stand at the 1981 Earls Court Motorfair. The company then went on to offer conversions on pre-registered cars and I have found the total reached about 30 cars, so still fairly rare then :)

The idea came from America as a brainchild of Jack Griffith (TVR connection there) and just under 3000 cars were converted at the Califoirnian works based on the RA42 coupe for the US market with the slightly bigger engine than the 1600cc UK car.

Also a German firm called Tropic carried out the same conversion but I've never looked into figures but it wouldn't be huge.

About 10 or 12 of the UK cars still exist (I'd have to check my notes to be exact). I've got 3 of them and also have one of the US cars, so not that rare a sight in my hometown !!!!!

Here's two of mine at a show a few years ago.
