I was on about the C5 that’s £9 million quid. But it’s equally relevant on the Cavalier. I think we ought to prank him with loads of daft requests.

Oh a pre -facelift .A little story the dealers visited the factory prior to release, many dealers questioned the structural glass rear window and the fact that the metal lid was directly bonded onto it , won’t that cause leaks ? They asked. “No Porsche manage to do it “ was the reply , Aye right a mass produced mediocre car vs a hand built Teutonic masterpiece , what was the biggest warranty work …… the crappy rattling dash and leaks to the rear boot , both improved on the facelift with the boot now a traditional metal frame with window , the Simca 1.1 & 1.3 were remarkably bulletproof units.

More reasonably priced I suppose , these could really shift but from new the engines sounded like the factory put some random nuts and bolts in the cylinder head 4x4 were nightmare, only Norway & Sweden got copper brake pipes , I think due to law there , the alloy ones we got always failed the first MOT , rear suspension and fuel tank had to be removed in order to replace , what a joyous bill for the owners.

It's had a 2 knocked off and a more realistic 995. It's a decent enough £500 car all day long though.

3 of my mates worked at Ryton and were sponsored through Coventry Polytechnic, and I shared a house with 2 of them, one of whom was my best man.

The rear glass window was a major problem IN the factory. The fitters broke a couple or 3 every day. Union tried to say it was a safety issue. IIRC, the glass is unsupported, but has a great weight of metal attached to the bottom.of it, so if you slam the boot, or try to twist it to fix the panel gaps you can easily break it. Plus it's curved so who knows what residual stress it holds in Its structure. 

The AX has a really cheap bit of plastic attached to bottom of a flat piece of glass and the Suzuki SC100 and the Volvo.C30 wre just a piece of glass.

Another Ford Cortina. This time a Mk4 and located in The Netherlands.

Advert states previous restoration. Only travelled 19.379 km*
See a tide line, engine size added to the front wings, and what looks like a non-standard choke. Ls did not have vinyl roofs as standard. I expect there is more "issues" waiting to be discovered when viewing it.

I wonder if it started out as a Taunus and they turned it into a Cortina to benefit from crazy English Ford nutters. The wing badges are probably the dealer or a mad giffer owner, but the vinyl roof could well be a period extra. 

I’m fairly sure NL got German built/badged Fords after 1970. They did get Cortina Mk1/2s though, and they sold well.
