Brand loyalty

Having man flu and feeling like shite i open my eyes at 05.10 this morning thinking i have owned Nissans for over 20years now.

Back in the early90's my mates were driving XR3's,Xr2's and MG metros i went for a Bluebird turbo 130+bhp and lag but i loved it.I px it for a Primera 2.0D 75bhp and omgnoturbo but it was gr10 on fuel put this in for egt and gt primera's then moved on to X-trails.There has been some Vauxhall's, reno's and Jag's/ Daimler still got this one in that time but i go back to Nissans

Do you have brand loyalty?

Posted

Yes. I've owned loads of different makes of cars but I keep going back to Saabs. I've tried telling myself I don't need a Saab in the fleet, but I do.

Posted

Sort of. I've owned Citroens since I was 18 and would never consider being without one (proper Citroens that is, not rebadged Peugeots). But I've owned a hell of a lot of other stuff too, so I hope I'm not one of these blinkered "OMG MY CAR IS DA BEST EVA" types. I just like Citroens.

My first car was a MK2 cavalier, and for a long time I had nothing but Vauxhalls and Fords - mostly cavaliers and sierras.

At one point for reasons I forget I was left carless and skint so in my desperation bought the first cheapo I could find - a £150 A reg Polo Coupe.

Was a brilliant little car and opened my eyes to the joys of non-brand loyalty.

The irony is that after a string of bad experiences and huge bills with a few vectras and my last Saab I've gone from being a vauxhall man to now I won't touch anything they make (unless it's a proper oldie)

Yeah, just a little. Apart from my AX (and a brief mistake with a Pug 306) every car I've owned has been from the BMC/BL/Austin Rover/Rover Group stable.

One day I might try an 80s Vauxhall. That is aspiration.

I have owned three BXs and will never buy one again. I once had a VAG too and I also shall never again.

My Kawasaki and Subaru have been fun, easy to maintain, high quality and dependable so my loyalty is with a "made in Japan" sticker.

I've had old BMW's for years, it's what I know. Far from perfect but they drive well and they're worth sweet jack shit with 10 years and 12 owners. I will look at other stuff though - I really rated the 04 Laguna DCi Sport Tourer I had custody of recently and early Vectrums apart, rate Voxalls as great all rounders. Never had a Jap car, EVAR.

I am staying with a relative who has only ever owned VW's at 84 years old---because they are reliable.

Posted

I buy an Alfa. Then when it's used me up and spat me out like the bitch they are, I buy a Honda.

Then after a year or so, I think all Italian cars can't be bad so switch to a Fiat.

Then I think, Alfas are beautiful again and buy another...

I've had 6 Alfas

5 Hondas

And countless Fiats.

All Alfas R shit, and when I get rid of my CRV I'm having a 159 Station Wagon.

Sent from my Nokia 3310 using the force.

I was just about to post that I have no brand loyalty when I realised that for about 30 years I've always had a Land Rover of some sort around. I'm not a wooly bearded, branded hat, wolf fleece wearing mud plugger, but somehow I've always got one, I like the idea of a defender right up until I try to drive one- I don't fit, even when I was a lad I had to have a series 1 handbrake lever in my 2 and 2a just to fit. When I drive The management's Freelander 2 I wedge my left foot under the clutch to avoid discomfort, but still sometimes choose it for long holiday drives across Europe. OMG I Am Land Rover Enthusiast !

One thing I do know is I've never owned an Alfa, probably the only mainstream brand I've not had.

Not cars but bikes , i ve had 30/40 bikes and only 1 was a yamaha . That was only bought to sell on too. Dont know why but never seem to want to own a yammy.

Kawasakis seem to always bankrupt me but I seem to keep buying them.

Trouble is most manufacturers make a mockery of brand loyalty.   How can a Beetle fan feel any kinship to any of the WWD stuff that they make  now?    What relationship is there between a Saab 99 and a Vectra?    There is a bloke near me with a T25 who has filled his drive with everything from a Golf Caddy to an ErrrrghOS - the only common feature is  the badge.   BMW have a vestige  of their original identity, Merc shot theirs up the arse and as  for anything with a Chevrolet badge....

I stick with Morris because I like them and until the Chinese do something to ruin the memory at least the cars have some commonality except the Farina Oxford  which is a bastard Austin.   Oh, and  Mercs for the missus but only proper ones.

It was a lot more prevalent back in the day but the cars were more consistent then....

Not so much with Motors, I tend to buy what I want or need or can afford at the time.

I am however picky with service items - I will only use NGK plugs, Mahle filters and good brand tyres, that sort of thing. Not because I am a slave to marketing, but because I haven't had issues with these parts in the past. Better the devil you know and all that....

I dont really need to answer this, do I? I do have a soft spot for Citroens and Peugeots too though.

I was a paid up Volvo only nerd for a while.

3x340s, 2x360s, 740, 850, S40 T4.

But all of those were probably in the same 18 month period, and I've had Nissans, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroen, Toyota since.

It's a big world, and one marque only lads must have a very narrow view of it.

Saabs for me, dabbled with other brands but always have an itch to scratch. Got mightly excited over saab 96 in tesco car park in blackburn last week. Trying to.persuade myself to get one to restore..

Nope, I'm an absolute slut, will go in anything. German, Japanese, French..even the odd American that has visited these shores. I do find Italians keep me interested for longest, but then something else comes along and it's Ciao..It's not lack of commitment as each one of them has left me with memories and some emotional baggage. Now I'm in a forced marrage with a much younger model, but it looks like it'll be a keeper... although I do have a little Kawasaki on the side for sunny days.

I've probably had over 60 bikes now, and only one of them was a Yamaha - an XJ900F. It also cost the most I've ever spent on a motor vehicle, £2,900. I bought it with my head rather than my heart - this was back in the good ol' days of Rider Policies, and the XJ was the biggest / most powerful shaft-drive bike I could get in the 600cc - 900cc category.

It was shit, and I've never bought another Yamaha :-)

I don't have *brand* loyalty with cars, although there are some brands I just won't touch. And some where I only like a few models.

I don't really have brand loyalty as such, but I do like Daihatsu, VW & Lancia.

Thinking about it the car I've had more than any other it's probably Daihatsu. I usually have at least one (currently 3) as they're fun cars, as well as being small & economical.

I've had quite a few VWs and for me they have been reliable, but I've had none newer than 14 years old. I am slightly loyal to VAG, but not anything post 2000.

I am also partial to Lancia's and will definitely have more. Gr9  styling, handling and in my books the best bang for buck in 70's-80's motoring. It boggles my mind that Lancias are cheaper than comparable Fords.

In my experience Lancia's don't rust any more than other cars of the era. Look at 70's BL/Ford/whatever, and they all rusted to buggery.

Yes (actually 70's BL stuff seems a lot better rust-wise than the 80s stuff), but they didn't have the Daily Mirror run a front page OMGTHINKOFTHECHILDRENRUSTENGINEFALLINGOUT!!!!!111!!111

I'd love a Lancia.

Let´s see what cars I´ve owned...

Mitsubishi Pajero

Subaru Leone

Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Mitsubishi Pajero

Subaru Impreza

Subaru Leone

Hyundai Galloper (Pajero in disguise)

Subaru Leone

Mitsubishi Pajero

Subaru Legacy

Subaru Leone

Volvo S80

Mitsubishi Pajero

Mazda 6

So I guess there´s a central theme.

I always need an old Pajero in my life, a Subaru Leone too and sometimes I try to drive european cars as dailys but soon come back to the japanese ones.

Favourite of all would be big Vauxhall barges ,PB/PC Crestas, Ventoras, right up until the Carlton GSI. After that, I rapidly fell out of love with Vauxhall.

Posted

Most of my motors have been Ford's, other than them I have had a few rovers, a bmw e30, a mk2 golf and an opel manta

I blame my dad for the love of Ford

Posted

As a teenager I only had VWs and I don't go more than a few years without one even now.  But as said above, brands don't keep their identity for long.  I'd love a '70s Audi but never a >2000 one

Posted

I seem to get a lot of French cars, not sure if this is something to do with my parents as they did too. Maybe its been imprinted onto my brain.

Other than that though, I have owned Imps pretty much constantly over the last 20yrs. 10 of those years have been 1 car though and for 9 of them its been off the road......
