Purchase unaided by a computer!

Sunday night my wife came home with tails of an Audi Cabriolet that was going to be scrapped unless someone saved it but last night I was so tired after work I did not call it. As soon as I came in from work today I had a call from the owner of the Audi who we do know, he said the matter was urgent and could I come now!

The seller told me he has no computer and unless I bought it, it would have to be scrapped. So before I had time to protest I had bought a 1994 (M) Audi 2.6E Cabriolet manual, that will not start, has no MOT and has not been used for several years.

Not a motor I'd want to be seen dead (or alive) in myself, but good luck with it and all that! The colour is quite pleasant, at least...

I have already been asked by a friend if I am opening a salon.

My mate had one. He loved it, I thought it was truly horrible. Very reliable and do have a sort of almost classic look to them though and that one looks ok. Except for the wheels of course which should be smashed to shit with a BFO sledgehammer.

I like it, and I'm not usually a fan of German posh. Any idea why it's not starting? I'd worry that it was laid up after a serious fault was found.

Also, no computer? How does he spend all day on the internet? At the library or something?

If you're after a 4 seater cabrio and don't want a BMW, the Audi was about your only option at the time.  You couldn't move for posh milfs outside Waitrose in them a few years ago.

I don't mind the Audi cabriolets, but the 6-pot is not the engine I'd chose for one.

Good luck and all that, but please ditch the wheels, or at least flog them on ebay to fund some with tyres that aren't painted  on.

I didn't choose it, it just sort of happened!

Nice one. The V6 is the very definition of disappointment - perhaps you could do away with most of the exhaust system to liven it up a bit (if you can actually get it running that is!). I rate these as one of the most attractive cabrios of all time though. Pretty and fairly worthless at the moment. The lines are just so deliciously smooth. Not very interesting, but pleasing on the eye.

Good save. Ditto on scrap the wheels. How much did you give for it?

What's wrong with the Audi V6?

I think these look seriously classy (on OE alloys obv.). LADY DI-look.

I like it. I believe the V6 engine in these is known for being thirsty and underpowered. Still WOULD though.

I like these. Had a 2.0 coupe, and it was a lovely drive, not particularly fast, but well put together, and cheap as chips.

I reckon this should be fine with a bit of fettling, just in time for a bit of summer, although those wheels will have to go. I bet you could turn a decent few quid out of them, though. Some wide boy will fancy them for his crusty A4 or something, and there's loads of coupes being broken that you could get a set of OE alloys off.

Well done.

If I was after a ragtop I would have one of these, they have aged quiet well.

It's just a bit too smooth and gentle. A V6 should be rorty and Alfa-like. Peugeot/Citroen got it spot on. Audi didn't.

They look better with the roof down. There's always someone looking for cheap convertibles this time if year so if you can not you'll sell it no problem . A lot of potential buyers of these are like magpies so the wheels will go down a treat even if we think they're not that great .

They are very very thirsty (at least my coupe with the same engine is). It has the shortest 1st gear I have ever had in a car so is useless away from the lights but car had a lot of pulling power through the other gears which is what you want from a tourer which I think these are.

I was told that they slow, thirsty, poor handling etc when I got mine and I was apprehensive but I really really like it. Its a well put together and comfortable car. Plus the mileometer stopped working about a month after I got it so i have never worked out the appalling MPG I am getting out of it.

I would get a convertible one quite happily. I don't think they look that gay for a soft top, maybe a bit 'Ageing professional at the tennis club trying to impress the young girls' TBH which suits me down to the ground.....

Looks like a good buy, especially for the summer.

Well I like these, so well saved.  The colour is VERY 1994 and makes a change from the usual 50 shades of midnight blue.  Just think of it as a cruiser not a racer and enjoying wafting around for a bit, before selling on at a guaranteed* profit**.  (After replacing the wheels, obviously.)

I can’t get mega enthusiastic about these although I’m sure theyre about the most ‘daily-able’ soft-top you can get.

Agree with H.Imp that they seem a bit ‘middle aged GP eyeing up the lasses at the traffic lights’…. well they did but theyre a bit old for that now, most of those guys have got a Boxster nowadays.

Aye. My old dear had one and she liked it, but I felt like a clown driving it, but there you go.

I would have let him scrap it. One down, too many to go.

You could have bought proper shite with the doh.

I find it utterly amazing that the sort of person who would drive a car that would not have a computer or Internet. I mean, even if they were in their 70's, they would be fairly switched on surely?

I like that although with the same wheel comments as everyone else. By far the best engine was the 20v five but even though it would fit (the 90 was just an 80 with a different face) I don't think the cab ever got it.
