Fabergé Greggs Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Riddle me this. I'm thinking of buying a Spanish imported Vespa p200 with a px125 engine. It has the nova, the v55/5 and receipts etc. It's been MOT'd on the frame number. The MOT says px125 but the v55/5 says p200. Question: will the v5 say p200? Question: when insuring it, will I have to say it's a p200 with a modification or can I say it's a p125x? I only have a 125 license. Thanks!
PiperCub Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 IMO: V5 will say it's a P200 I would bet as it is what is officially irrespective of what motor it's got. It will probably flag up as a 200 so questions will be asked if you only have a 125 licence (is that an 'A1'?). If you tell them it's got a 125 motor in it, that's going to be classed as a modification and that's often a real red flag for insurance companies, they don't like pretty much all mods unless security related. You may find they'll want a report from someone to verify it's got the smaller motor before they agree anything or they may just knock you back - you can only ask I guess. If the V5 does say 125 then there's no problem as the insurance companies will be none the wiser and it won't affect you.
Dave_Q Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 I possibly need some brake discs for my blade as its failed MOT on brake fluctuation. Are these likely to be as shit as the price would suggest? Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171925742704 EBC disks are about 125 a side, OEM ones from David Silver about 140 a side but currently out of stock. There are some used generic wavy discs on the bay for 60 quid, or used genuine ones for 100ish a pair. Halp pls autoshite?
xtriple Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 I bought some wavey discs from the bay for a dirt bike (WR450) and the front was fine but the back pulsed like it was warped... it wasn't, the actual thickness varied by enough to make it feel like a warped disc. Told them and got a replacement foc and told to keep the old one, not that it was any use!
hairnet Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 i had a ntv 650 that needed one and bought one from i think that same bloke - collected from his house etc local enuff to go get and it was less than 50 quid didnt have a problem - stamped to his spec in china and shipped to him and he still makes from it been quite a long time since so not sure if could find the auction
Cavcraft Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 I don't think you're allowed a Chinese quad unless you promise to put stupid chrome wheels in it and drive it round council estates with your shirt off showing your thermal tattoo. costadelglosta and Tamworthbay 2

castros_bro Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Do not buy a quad, they are the ultimate chav chariot, regularly seen being ridden round town centres by tracksuit wearing yobs, the only decent quad is one with a bale of hay on the back and a sheepdog on the front, they have all the disadvantages of a car and none of the advantages of a bike, a pointless road vehicle in my opinion Forgot to put it in context, it was to go here for bumbling from a derelict shed to the beaches and builders supplier but, partly due to lack of money, has now been superseded by fewer wheeled project. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir//39.5374416,-9.0843826/@39.5372389,-9.084286,906m/data=!3m1!1e3 Jazoli 1

Lots of older bikes and scooters have nothing listed for model name, so you might be OK if the engine size is shown as 125cc. Grey imports have some right bollocks on the V5 (I've had one or two), e.g. the 150cc Sprint I owned briefly had no model name listed and 125cc for engine size.

Yeah I was never going to buy the ebay specials really. The used ones may not be any better than what I have either. I've inspected the discs today and they're not too bad, about 1mm runout based on my non-scientific eyeballing. They're barely worn at all in terms of thickness so I'm going to see if they can be straightened. I've found a place near Grantham that will straighten them for between £25 and £35 each, hopefully there's somewhere closer, if not will post them off.

twosmoke300 Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 1mm of runout on a disc is massive . Hondas spec on car discs is a max of 0.2mm !

Yes they are, I have tried blasting out the bobbins with brake cleaner previously, they seem free to me i.e they move with finger pressure. 1mm of runout on a disc is massive . Hondas spec on car discs is a max of 0.2mm ! 1mm isn't measured as I don't have a DTI, could be less. The HBOL says 0.3mm max and it's definitely more than that. I've sent them off to this place: http://www.stmotorcycles.co.uk/ £50-70 to have them straightened is much better than £300+ on a new set, especially seeing as they're barely worn in terms of thickness.
plasticvandan Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Anyone got an old fibreglass topbox to sell? Can collect if in Worcestershire ish

UltraWomble Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Picked up this today - tank baffles are FUBAR so stripped the chrome, the rear swing arm, forks, headstock bearings, foot plate rubbers and rear mudguard and lights. Not bad for a quid. Pick this up tomorrow.... xtriple and Fat_Pirate 2
Dave_Q Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I fancy a small ped for the lols, I'm about to start a new job 5 mile away from home so could easily blezz down on a c50 or whatever. I solved the mystery* of the non-bleedy brake - the reservoir has a rubber safety condom thing inside it, twatballs here was putting the fluid in that so the actual res was dry. With actual fluid in the master cylinder bleeding was achieved quickly. John F, andy18s, xtriple and 1 other 4
