The Lankytim family are off to mid France next year for our hols, so I jokingly asked the Wife if I could A-frame some chod back and amazingly she agreed!

I'm thinking along the lines of something quite small like a 2 cylinder Citroen Visa or similar but has anyone here got any ideas as to what I should drag home? Must be pretty cheap and fun!

Mk1 BX with the funky dashboard.

I'd be dragging back a Renault 4, they seem to command strong money over here even in LHD format.

I guess it depends on whats available, within your budget, at your location -that you feel happy to A frame.

Nice position to be in. Enjoy

Chrysler Horizon/Alpine................badged as Simca's over there. Mega rare over here. They must be the Mk1 versions though i.e pre 1980.

Something worth your while, a Renault 4 as Volksy said

Or, in the spirit of shite

TAGORA!

Any 60's or 70's Renault ... For me it would be a 4 (van) or a 12 (estate)

Citroen Ami or GS wagon.

Old interesting Renaults.

Renner 6 is a bargain at the moment and is basically a cross twixt a 4 and a 16. Rolls like a fat nun on a bar of soap, but charmant en plus.

If buying autoshite in France be aware that the French love to make do and mend as most of them are skint. Also the French MOT or CT is an autoshiters dream, so be prepared for pop rivets and P38 on load bearing areas.

Also you will come across these terms:

Nickel

Dans sont jus

Dans sont jus = knackered and dirty as we just dragged it out of the barn, will feature bird crap, mouse droppings, straw, light surface rust, sheet ally and pop rivet repairs, 30 year old tyres, marginal if working brakes and will generally be clapped out crap.

Nickel = all the above but may have been washed and will command 20 - 50% more asking price.

Also French restorations can also be very dodgy. A recon radiator may be a F****ed blocked one with no fins that's been sprayed gloss black to look new. Tyre black paint still sells well dans la regions and is often used to make old perished tyres look like new.

I'd advise buying something French made as this is most likely been near some garageist who knew how to look after it, so Renner or Peugoet as Citroen's are regarded as Cult and fetch more Euros regardless of condition.

It's got to be a Renner 15 or 17 if you could find one. It's such a classic shape and they're nearly non-existant over here.

Please find an Ami 6 saloon and bring it back. Then sell it to me for peanuts. That'd be great. Thanks!

Pretty much anything produced by Citroen, Renault, Peugeot, Talbot, Simca, Panhard, at any time during the '60s, 70's and early '80s would instantly gain you "Shitegod" status....Trouble is, anything worth having seems to fetch quite a high price nowadays. :(

Some suggestions from me:

Simca Aronde.

Matra-Simca Bagheera.

Talbot-Matra Rancho.

2CV/Dyane/Ami.

R4.

R12 Saloon and create your own Gordini replica! :D

I guess a Facel Vega is out then?

I'd go for a Peugeot 203 Break.

Pre 1960 = no MOT, no tax, classic policy maybe 100 quid a year.

Then make a nice surf wagon out of it.

I'll suggest some older avant garde: Citroen GS, any Panhard, Simca Aronde :)

Those Tagoras look great, i'd seriously hit one hard, the only problems are that they're a bit big to A frame, a bit over my budget and would be expensive to fuel and tax. A renault 4 or 6 could be ideal!

I'm going over to french France next year for some hot import action too, a Renault 4, 6 or Rodeo is what i'm going for, however i've just bought a megane for a ton so I shall drive over in that, and drive my new purchase back :D

Renault 12 would be my vote.

But for easy resale a 4 or an early 5 - interest in these is picking up and there are very few pre facelift ones left.

If you can get hold of a decent Peugeot 504 TI saloon, I'd be happy to buy it off you! Probably bit heavy for the A frame though...

There are

Fourteen (14)

Tagora

on leboncoin

That'll be quatorze (pronounce cat-horz) :D

Lanky Tim have you thought about buying something really big with a tow bar and towing your own car home? Pug 404/504 familiale or estate frinstance converted to lpg would be cheap to run and the 404 would be tax free.

Find yourself a early Mk1 Golf Swallowtail and retire and your profits.

I remember one being posted on here a few years about that was stupidly cheap over in France.
