I listen to Absolute & quite like the breakfast show, but I'm not at all impressed by this & I don't even like Allegros :(

Never heard of Absolute radio or either of these buffoons. All I can say is, a pity Steve Wright , Terry Wogan and that fat bloke on Radio 1 (name escapes me) weren't in the Allegro when it was crushed.

Oy! You can't be dissing old Tel!

I agree on 'Wrighty' and Chris Moyles though.

Well that was quite funny, That Christian O'Connell has deleted my comments and blocked me on facebook after i called him a cock for his remark about how funny the comments are by us "mouth breathers" and how he was going to read them out on the show!.

Funny enough he's deleted his comment too which was

"Some of the comments here are hilarious. Especially the wonky eyed angry ones from the mouth breathers! Facebook is the ideal home for some very angry, whiny people! Think we will share some of these Monday!"

Oh dear, that could land him in quite a bit of shit, hopefully someone saved it...

I'm afraid mindless wankerdom is the order of the day at the moment.

Why do kids play chicken with traffic? Because it's a laugh. Why do kids give their teachers lip and dick about in class? Because it's a laugh. Why do newly qualified drivers go everywhere at 110% of their modest skill levels? Because it's a laugh. Wh do teenagers throw stones at pigeons? Because it's a laugh. Why do young adults all group together in Enfield, burn down a furnitureshop and then a Sony distribution centre? Because it's a laugh. Kaiser Cheifs were right, it's cool to know nothing.

Intelligence is right out, these days.

The medias main interest is keeping the slack-jawed lowest common denominators of society belly laughing. There's good money in it, but it does fuck all for the advancement of the population.

My wireless is glued to BBC6, by the way.

Absolute is what became of Virgin radio, it gets put on once in a while at work. All in all it's a mainstream commercial station & so is all that you would expect it to be, feels like great music for the first few hours you listen but then gets all too safe & predictable. I dont care much for the breakfast show & this staged vandalism aint improved that! I dont care much for Allegros either if I'm honest but if some harm comes to them as result of what they've done I'd have little problem with that. Geoff Lloyd who does (did? I've not listened in awhile!) the early evening show should be somewhere better though, he was decent enough.

I get what Pete M is saying well enough, there's any amount of folk who'll say this & that should be saved, those that scrap it should be shot etc but when you need to sell where the hell are they?!

I looked them up, they're a medium wave station?

A music station on medium wave. No wonder they're crushing Allegros, they probably think it fell through a worm hole from the future.

There is a guy posting loads of pictures and stuff up on their Facebook page. It's become a bit farcical but he's totally winding folks on that page up as he just won't stop trolling! LOL

Ah, no big loss.

Dick Head

I think you'll find it's "Dickhead", one word.

DAMN YOU PETE-M, DAMN YOU FOR HAVING AN OPINION.

Posted

I just looked in on my daughter's FACEPALM thing and literally ROLFD my FAO LOL at Pete's comments on Christian O'cockwand's webpage thing.

Posted

While I don't condone the response he generated, I did wonder what exactly Pete was getting at. Summarise his post and it looks like "An Allegro got scrapped. In totally unrelated news, no-one will buy my Peugeot."

I sympathise with Pete a lot. After all, he saved this car from an uncertain future, spent good money getting it fettled and is now rightly regarded as The Man. But blaming the entire world for not buying the super-undesirable (apart from on here and we're all skint) Pugrot isn't going to achieve much is it? It's one of those cars that you just can't be in a hurry to sell - or you face a massive loss. It's not the sort of car that's going to make people come running along with the full asking price in a desperate bid to be the lucky one who drives away in it. Sorry, that's not an opinion - that's fact. I know all too well how super-undesirable rare French tat can be. Them's the breaks.

They're on digital too which is where I hear them, dont think I've ever listened to anything on medium wave!

I think he was more getting at the people that moan about cars getting crushed, scrappaged, bangered but when it comes down to it ,don't put there money where there mouth is.

Ah, no big loss.

It's so hard to find realistic buyers for rare old cars now that I'm past caring when another old car gets wrecked. It's a losing battle trying to save old stuff, take my 604 as an example; lots of hard work has gone into saving it and now the thing is just sitting on the path irritating the fuck out of me. Offered it for sale pretty much everywhere and nobody has actually bothered coming to see it other than a couple of banger lads - and I don't know why they'd want it.

End of the day a car is just a lump of metal / glass and whatever else. If a radio DJ wants to smash it to bits then I'm really not bothered at all.

In fact, if there's a radio station or TV show that'd like to buy my 604 and smash it to smithereens / fire it into space / pulverise it / drive it to Birkenhead for charidee, please get in touch. I have given up trying to find an actual buyer for it and it needs to go soon. 'Classic' car buyers aren't interested so I'm past caring what happens to it now - as long as I get a reasonable amount of cash for it.

Otherwise, fuck it, I'll smash it to shit myself.

Dick Head

It's Mr Dickhead to you.

What my point was meant to convey was that these two Absolute dicks have broken a tidy looking Allegro and they're getting a ton of abuse for it (some from me, admittedly) from the "classic" / old car brigade. I've saved the 604 from a rusty death because I wanted to try one, and wanted to save probably the last working injection 604 in the UK from being scrapped. Now when it comes to trying to flog the 604 there's nobody 'classic' interested even at under half the money I've put into it. Fuxake, I'm asking less than the cost of the welding and paint, so maybe the only way of getting any interest in the bloody thing would be to call a radio station, attach it to a trebuchet and fire it back towards bloody France. Yet the same "Classic fans" are going postal about an Allegro, of which there are still a fair few, and at the end of the day the Allegro is pretty shit. At least the 604 is a nice car to travel in..

The banger racers seem to want it, as do the travelling geezers with the flat back Transits, but trying to flog it to someone who knows what it is seems to be an impossible mission.

So, wind your fucking neck in.

Does anyone know how this car was sourced? Judging by the comment from the Cruntian O'Connell faceache page, the radio station wanted this to happen. Thus the blame lies with them too - and no doubt, somewhere along the way there was a risk assessment performed that required the stunt to have a very sound car as its basis, rather than one that was shonky to start with.

It doesn't make much difference. It's still unimaginative and lame.

Made a comment on their FB page and it's been removed, it wasn't even rude!

A dealer was selling it on autotrader for a little while as i remember posting it on the ebay thread, I'm sure it was low mileage, 1 owner and only about £495 because i remember commenting on how cheap it was.

Posted

everything is being removed, tis like something from 1960's "tother side of Iron curtain" going on. Maybe station formally known as Virgin reckon that if there is no posts then it never happened and everyone carries on as normal.

Shame, I was having fun.

Cheered myself up reading about stateside renner and a beige princess. You guys are what it is about and not some desperate producers and lame presenters aping off an obsolete top gear idea.

Is the engine saveable? Dollywobbler could put it in his Mini to make it more saleable.

Just found my ebay tat post, It was a kia dealer trade in with 1 owner and 58000 miles and up for £799.

youtube vid is still active for comments....

BTW, 6.35 on the video "I've always wondered what it would be like to have the whole world hate you... well, this is what it's like"

That Youtube video has only had 800 odd views. That's pretty lame for a national radio breakfast show. Nice to see plenty of negative comments from names I recognise off here though. Esp. this one:

As a PR/marketing expert, I have to congratulate you for what seems like a great and very well-judged publicity stunt! I'm doing a new viral marketing campaign soon for a leading pram supplier, I can't give out the exact details but it's basically a jokey look at Cot Death. Hope it goes as well as this! Bye!

About 50 of those view may well be from here as well. Risible.

At the end of the day though, a car's true worth is in what somebody would pay for it, not what the owner values it at, if the car hasn't sold, perhaps it is the price that is the obstacle?

I would value my xantia at probably £700, but I know I'd not get that if I want to sell it I'm going to have to go less than that.

how much effort would it take to get a contaminated a series running again? like you say. there isnt even a filter to change.

It took me about a week 25 years ago when my ex girlfriend put diesel in her Mini accidentally!

A real travesty such a solid original old car was crushed in a totally unoriginal publicity stunt. Although we are unable to achieve anything I wanted to add my opinions to the ever increasing list of those annoyed by the unfunny actions of these dimwits. Unfortunatley my mild comments were removed from Facebook. A more robust approach on Twitter seemed to touch a nerve as I was PM'd by O'Connell unhappy at my tweet 'C**ts to a man', before being blocked.

If it was that good and low mileage etc,why did nobody buy it to save it when it was advertised?
