Epic Tat Friday DC,

Shame you didn't pick up the Matchbox Thames Wrecker too, very unusual to see one that nice.

Yes, indeed - too much tat, not enough cash, tragically!

The ATM outside St George's wasn't working, so I had to trail up East Bridge St to the railway station and lift some cash there. I'd got more than I thought I needed, but it was a busy old week and more requests had come through by the time I huffed and puffed back down there...

Ideally I would have taken the Thames and the Corgi Olds squad car along with the rest, but I prioritised those requests already queued up.

I also used to have the Thames wrecker, in not quite as nice nick - whereas the Commer Ice-Cream van and E-Type I've never owned.

But, if they're still there next week...

That's the very one. Not in quite such nice nick, sadly, but it was an unexpected find - pics still to come.

I wouldn't go getting too excited, mind...

That Daimler Ambulance is actually really nice - just a bit too much into the "model" spectrum for me.

The Matchbox are also really nice but £5 is a bit too much for my liking. Lovely though.

Yes, it's a cracking model - good and heavy, too.

I was dimly aware of the casting, but hadn't realised the real-life example displayed at the Ulster Transport Museum had been modelled in 2002.

The Matchboxes sure aren't cheap-cheap, but I figure I'm unlikely to lose much money as and when I move them on.

Was that Market Blokey's stall?

Yes indeed - he has two adjacent stalls, one of which is for general antiques and collectables including old Dinky/ Corgi/ Lesney (kept at the back of the stall, on a banana box, where he can keep an eye on them), and the other one hosting books, CDs and more recent models like the MoYs and Corgi Classics. That's where the blue-light models and 50p box were this week.

He must think the MoY are less likely to get pilfered. Can't think why.

In this very thread is a photo showing his banner above the stall, with his phone number on

So it's possible we could ring him up and pre-order the Thames Trader ...before Nemesis returns

In theory, yes - though by his own admission he has no real interest in diecast, or cars in general, and can't really tell one from another, beyond Corgi/ Dinky/ Spot-On = £££££, and Lledo/MoY = ppppp.

I've previously asked him whether or not something specific has sold, and even shown him pictures, and he's just looked blank. Then stuff he's assured me has previously sold shows up again on the stall several months later...

In a way, Tat Friday is all about chaos, and glorious possibility. Hence the £2 Lone Stars and 50p Minichamps.

If anyone definitely wants to take the Thames wrecker, I'll happily contact him and see if it's still about - but I can't guarantee that he won't triumphantly fish out a Days Gone tow truck for me next Friday...

So, today the much-missed 50p box was finally back, spewing its guts all over the table.

2060420465_IMG_20210528_0757162.thumb.jpg.eef0cff8128a54c8cfa26a23366fb4ad.jpg

I had a good ol' claw through these, several times, as it's amazing what can get missed (very often I only spot something amazing when I'm already home and editing the pics).

Terrible no-name BMW 'Batmobile' in roughly 1/50 did not make it home with me today.

Phat-wheeled Porker by Majorette is one that I think has cropped up before; worn but reasonable. Mercedes E-Class estate behind is by Hongwell, and was a bit chipped.

1/36 Corgi Ferrari Daytona made me very excited for a few seconds, until I clocked it was missing its front lightstrip and looked a bit squashed.

So I left it.

Most of these Matchbox Dodge Commandos tend to come with Pepsi stickers, so this Smith's Crisps version seemed a bit unusual. Gammy wheel and damage to the sticker on the other side made me leave it, though.

Laying them out logically, then - all of these are available at 50p.

Board the First:

Foden displaying some signs of Wobbly Wheel Syndrome.

Late release Superfast Mercury Fire Chief, in reasonable shape, and Corgi Juniors Land Rover SIII wrecker that looks like it could do with some assistance.

899362959_IMG_20210528_1356462.thumb.jpg.399c07eddc85740beeecf436eaf78cee.jpg

Uncommon to see these lose their wheels; something weird's going on with the paint too.

383473164_IMG_20210528_1357102.thumb.jpg.ff68b5e9f2d409ffe3dc0daeb5eaa174.jpg

Another Lotus Esprit that's invalidated its corrosion warranty (one for @tom13?), plus a Road Champs Turbo Trans-Am, which may or may not be of interest to @bunglebus?

101787621_IMG_20210528_1357262.thumb.jpg.645cabac3acdcbab04d0597449a86188.jpg

Trans-Am looks like it's once been a black Burt Reynolds version, but is now wearing Humbrol Red.

Further Road Champs lurking, too: Porsche 928 and Chevrolet Corvette:

103443567_IMG_20210528_1357362.thumb.jpg.de8f9bdbbe21aca85f80dca652a2de48.jpg

Obvious problems are obvious.

I'm impressed that the fragile opening hatch has stayed intact on this 'Vette, while someone's junked the driver's door.

To be fair, these felt a lot more exciting when I was digging them out from amidst the Teamz and Days Gone rubbish. I guess I've been missing the tat box more than I realized, dagnammit.

Similarly challenged in the door department, here's that Acropolis Rally Audi Quattro by Guisval, complete with special mods so poor old Hannu Mikkola could ensure a swift exit when needed after a hard night on the moussaka and ouzo.

1062835018_IMG_20210528_1358172.thumb.jpg.0b7d67d9ed49d09741377fcbf38844aa.jpg

It's not minty, but could be a stop-gap option until a better one shows up? For 50p, I thought it was too much of an oddball to turn down.

753904273_IMG_20210528_1358372.thumb.jpg.fdafbec58c6576ba228930f65da7bcb3.jpg

Handy towbar, for caravan hi-jinks.

Next up, the Bburago 1/43 Alfa Giulietta...

625625754_IMG_20210528_1358452.thumb.jpg.5bb36c505e6324592fc1283ce19fbedf.jpg

Now, bit of a punt but wasn't someone here after a recent-ish BMW 3-Series a few weeks ago?

Mmm. Let me know if you fancy these, or if they're too far gone for your preferences!

Lastly for this board, some Pontiac Firebirds by ERTL with a strong resemblance to the Knight Industries Two Thousand...

A Realtoy BMW M3, and a no-name (suspected Motormax) Z3.

These Nemesis types do, on the whole.  One gets much too close to them at toyfairs, largely because they have as much idea of manners as they do of personal hygiene, and that kind of thing stays with you.  Why is it these are the only people with disposable income, and why do they specifically keep the market prices artificially high for everything I might ever want?

It's the Lesney No.47 Commer Ice Cream Canteen in Lyons Maid decor, and the No.32 Jaguar E-Type.

They're not absolutely mint - there are two chips to the Commer's nose and one to the driver's side wing, while the Jag has two or three very small marks to the lower o/s flank and just above the tailgate (just visible in the pics).

The freshness of the raw metal beneath makes me wonder, tragically, whether these marks were inflicted very recently due to careless handling.

But they do both have that 'just unboxed' freshness, and are quite delightful.

If anybody wants to take them at £5 each, hit me up!

And now... I really need to delve into the Hat of Tat, don't I?

If no one else has already asked, could I have the Ice Cream Commer for Mrs Concern please?

Can I have the Merc TV van please? It looks similar but not identical to the one you sold me last year and should be an interesting comparison. I wonder just how many manufacturers ripped this one off from Matchbox.
