Dang, looks like I missed a good bus tat Friday. If those Checkmate buses are still there next time please grab them for me.

Nothing there to tune my fiddle, but damn I've missed Tat Friday.. Squinting over my specs at a phone screen over coffee and cigarettes on a Friday morning had become a guilty pleasure I'll only admit to on here

Not sure if this one tickles @RoadworkUK's fancy? If not, it's up for grabs!

Fancy definitely tickled! Ta very much for considering my fetishes. I'll graciously decline the Siku, though, if for no reason than to temper my magpie tendencies.

Annoyingly I've had a hard day at the coalface (well, Adobe InDesign on a laptop, while drinking ample cups of tea and enjoying 6 Music) and only had the briefest glimpse at Belfast TatFest earlier, just enough for the guys in the morning online meeting to clearly see flecks of saliva forming in the corners of my mouth, largely driven by that tantalising assortment of 1:76 buses.

By crikey, he dredges them up, doesn't he? Fair play to the feller. For one breathtaking moment I thought I saw a National in Eastern National livery, and was fairly relieved to see that it was a Crossville.

Might I make a standing order, of sorts, in case I'm unable to monitor future Tat Fridays in real time? Anything 1:76 in Eastern National or (and they do exist), Colchester Borough Transport liveries that happens to be in half decent condition and conspicuously reasonably priced has a guaranteed home here.

I'd quite like to make a little fleet of stuff from my childhood / school days surrounded by Essex BusShite.  I've already made a start with some Hedingham and Supreme rammle, @Amishtat will understand!

And thanks again for the first class shite-harvesting service you provide.

I certainly do understand.. I'm not a bus enthusiast really but I didn’t know you could get Colchester Borough liveried models.

Goes off to look up what..

(I nearly typed CBT. Don't do a Google image search for that. Or do, whatever..)

Edit:Just had a quick snout-nah, it'd have to be an Atlantean or nothing. I didn't remember them having Nationals but evidently I'm wrong.

That's the thing. I'm seriously not a bus enthusiast either. I'm not, I swear it. And don't let the many, many books and brochures about buses that litter my floor neatly line my bookcases tell you otherwise.

What I am, though, is an enthusiast of stuff that isn't around any more. I'm predisposed to desperately finding ways to hold onto the past, for whatever reason. I suspect chemical imbalance.

Another that's never left its box until earlier today. I can recall getting the Vanguards Cambridge probably in about 2005,a time when I wasn't really buying diecast and preferred to waste my money on the full size counterparts. However, I've always had a soft spot for BMC Farinas and when this was released in the same livery as my old example, I had to have it. The Vitesse Peugeot 404 makes a nice contrast (Farina Friday? No, thought not..) but isn't quite as nicely detailed as the A60, although it's a fair bit more knocked about. Sadly, and I can say this having owned both, in the real world a 404 is a superior machine in pretty much every respect and a rather cleaner design.

Farina was a smart cookie, wasn't he?  Selling lightly-tweaked variations of the same design to both BMC and Peugeot!  It isn't often one sees them both together, thank you for that.  The 404 was significantly sleeker than the A60 IMHO, and I suspect lighter and more powerful too.

Hey @Datsuncog, great to see you out and about visiting the stalls - I was rooting for your success from afar! And even though we have an espresso machine* at home, I can still remember the sense of occasion that was being able to order a coffee again, when restrictions lifted last year. S'funny how the small things in life drive us, eh?

So with that in mind, if you encounter that York Rider National at £2 on your travels, please add to my pile. Feeling a little wistful to be 'home' right now, so I'd happily take it on.

But I'm no bus aficionado, so absolutely no stress if it's not there next time.

And on the finances front, I've FINALLY sorted out my dormant UK account, so can wrap up surely your longest awaited parcel departure forthwith!

Is the Y-Type still available? Will have to keep an eye out as there seems to be some interesting buses popping up there.

Hey Tim could I swap out the allover green National  for the Green and White Greenline one please? I prefer that to the London Country one!

Bazza loves his MK1 Escort. He spent a fortune at Burton's getting a 1660 crossflow built, and installed it himself with a Rocket gearbox out of a Corsair. His mate Billy sorted him out with some Capri Laser wheels and he replaced the original black seats with some red ones he found at Kirby's in Rochford. He was getting it ready for a respray in Radiant Red over the original dark blue when his bird Shaz kicked him out, so he lost his garage and the MK1 has had to live outside his mum's house for the last few years. Unfortunately the sea air in Southend hasn't done the old Escort much good, so there's quite a lot of rust appearing now through the primer and filler

All things considered, this isn't looking too bad. Might need a careful polish to sort out a tiny bit of paint that got past the masking

@bunglebus Some good items there, if you happened to buy that pink double decker and fancy moving it on it on let me know.

Hey Tom, it might have been me you were wanting to tag!

The Chinese tourists at the market seemed to have nabbed the majority of the CMB and KMB models, but I can certainly have a look for that one if the same models are back next week - think the pink triple-axle  was a Dennis Dragon, but I maybe some of the more bus-savvy here can confirm?

There's always a bit of a lucky-dip element to the Friday Market as the fella who runs the stall just seems to grab boxes at random from his lock-up. He's no real interest in diecast, weirdly, and so there's no point asking him to bring a particular model next time. Will see what shows up, sure!

It was a good 'un, for buses! I wondered if there's was anything there that might interest you; the GZK in particular seemed an unusual one. I'll take a look next week if the bus box returns, and see what's remaining.

I'd never heard of Checkmate before, but they all seemed to be individually numbered out of a production run of 1000 each, so I can imagine they're not as common as EFE/OOC stuff - especially not for £2 on a market stall.

Weird what shows up in this little corner of Belfast.

Hey, not a bother! I'll pop the Joal Scania aside for you, and will add Eastern National/CBT buses to my 'eyes peeled' market list. It's a substantial list these days, but it makes it all the more rewarding once something turns up which a fellow-shiter's been craving for a while.

Yep, I'll absolutely grab the York-liveried National if it's there next week - I very nearly did take it with me, but then worried I was going overboard on Nationals, and what if no-one wanted them... guess I shouldn't have worried!

Great to hear that the blighty finances are sorted - it's not a bother at all, and it'll be nice for you to receive them! I think your first lot was sent over to Sam by way of a staging post for other diecast orders, so don't know if that's still with him? The second lot's still here, though, so can get that boxed up and sent wherever and whenever suits.

Yep, Y-Type in Highland colours is yours!

Some cracking buses indeed, at low, low prices - sad in a way, as I imagine this was once someone's prized collection that's ended up tossed in a box, but keep an eye out next week, sure - same place, same time!

Bargain-tastic!

The Studebaker book looks like a good read too; marque histories are one of those things that fascinate me.

Cheers! Tim. Very much appreciated. And absolutely no obligation. Also, by all means call in my account for dues as and when the clutter gets too  much to bear.

Off to the first boot sale later this morning, all being well. Weather is looking promising, so one of two things will probably happen. The management will decide we're not going, or it'll be a diecast desert..

Sun is shining and the smell of cheap burgers and weed wafts gently in the breeze. Must mean the boot sale is on (seriously, who smokes weed at 7am on a Sunday?)

I was a bit low on cash this week and walked away from a fair few things I felt were overpriced, so most of my haul was 50p/you can have the lot for a couple of quid M9 stuff.

ET was pretty cool but at £125 he can find his own way home

Literally nobody. Seller is possibly one of those lunatics who is utterly potless but thinks everything you have is worth nothing and everything they have is worth a million pounds. The same sort that sells ancient rusty tools from the bottom of a damp box and broken vacuum cleaners.

Totally. Last week there was a guy selling old tools, old spades etc he’s found in a tip and painted with some hammerite, he was wanting more than it would be to buy new ones.

Here are some highlights from this morning's expedition;

Unknown make Lambo (possibly Tintoys) with some quality control problems

20210502_102837

I already have one of these Tomica copies by Welly

20210502_102721

But it had a friend

20210502_102742

Maisto 405

20210502_102652

Hoping @flat4alfacan help ID this one - I had this 930 as part of a slot car set as a kid, think it was paired with a red Firebird/TransAm

20210502_10262320210502_102636

That came from one of the sellers asking too much, he had a tin full of quite interesting stuff that I assumed was 50p, but at £2 a pop it all went back in other than this. Stupid really as I probably would have spend more if they'd been less

This was a bit of a score, sitting on its own away from the seller's 50p box, assumed it would be £££ but no - 50p. My friend's son would love it but not sure I can bring myself to give it to him!

20210502_10241620210502_102424

I'm really not a fan of the Coca Cola company, but this Majorette Jeep Cherokee (got it right this time) was too clean to pass up

20210502_10211720210502_102130

I left lots of newer Hot Wheels behind, but despite being broken, this VW based sand rail (Rock buster) came home with me

20210502_102005

I bought dozens of older Matchbox, here are a few of the better ones

20210502_100512

Can't resist a Vantastic - Mr. £2 a pop had the exposed engine version

20210502_100401

Grabbed two of these, one is missing an axle

I still don't get what these little lorries are all about...

20210502_095805

...but it came with a spare trailer

20210502_095911

A while ago I was complaining that I don't have a good Fandango, and since then I've been outbid/sniped on several. 50p score!

20210502_09565220210502_095608

These Rovers always get snapped up on eBay

20210502_095544

Is this our old friend the Wildlife Truck (and others)?

Welly 32 Ford for the custom box, suicide doors are most excellent

20210502_095400

One of two large Lone Star scores, I saw some kid holding this but he put it back, snatched it immediately

20210502_09523220210502_095221

That one ^ came as part of a £2 deal including this Matchbox Unimog and trailer

20210502_095101

Commercial vehicles aren't my thing for the most part, but as I have the Tarmac Mazda B1600 and trailer, this ended up in my bag

20210502_09500820210502_095013

This has to be my #1 find today though - having bought the Batcopter and a handful of 50p cars and moved on, I caught up with the mrs, who asked if I'd seen the big box of cars a few rows back. Having found it, it was the same guy - but I hadn't noticed this on the floor

20210502_09480720210502_09481020210502_09475020210502_09483320210502_094851

Boom has some serious reach!

20210502_09492520210502_094934

Think it should have some supporting legs to go in those holes, but other than that it's complete and in pretty good shape for its age - 60's - early 70's?
