Yes, granted.  To Brits in the 1980s though, the logo would mainly be known for cassette tapes.  Those tapes, that TDK dominated the UK market with...

Which makes me think - must look for a TDK livery car.  Must be an art-car somewhere.

Yes, yes it does

A meeting with Amishtat today saw me leave with a few shiny trinkets (and several that are not very shiny at all), including the unsuspecting Lone Star Zodiac estate. Also as some consolation for the black Porsche 944 that turned up missing the other week, a really nice white version

I bought several of these forward control Land Rovers off here a while back in various states of repair, but another can't hurt, and this one's pretty nice

Dinky McLaren M8A isn't one that's crossed my path before

I have the red version of the Corgi Bertone Shake buggy, so the yellow one had to come home with me

I keep picking these up as I have several with damaged glass. Nice to find a sound one

Lastly a Husky split pickup that looks somewhat windswept, sneaky aerodynamic modifications?

That Husky.  It would hard to get that as ‘right’ as that if we tried !

Yeah, successful tat meetup today. Was good to see you again @bunglebusand @Amishtat

Here's my haul.

Traction Avant hot rod has now got a fixed door, a new tyre and headlights.

I'm glad I picked up the Corgi Ambulance in the end, Dominic said 'this is my favourite'!

Oh yes.. Nice to meet up with you two again, thanks for turning out. Doc, I found another bag just after you left which had something in it for you I'd forgotten about, Rich has it for safe keeping. Nice job on the Citroën but I'd forgotten just how shit that flame job looked. I was probably eleven or twelve when I did that but even so..

More new arrivals today... this seems to be turning into something of a habit.

(Which was uncommonly well done, by the way)

439368693_IMG_20201022_1506332.thumb.jpg.152eda39f560f026358d56f4784f8f0a.jpg

Yes, it's the Corgi 415 Mazda B1600 Camper from 1976, in not-too-bad nick.

960167344_IMG_20201022_1506552.thumb.jpg.933e2040bc8058c1449782df325e3f92.jpg

There's a few chips here and there, and a rubbish touch-up job along the top edge of the camper unit, but that's okay.

This was a bit of a steal - not only did the price not rise above the low opening bid, but the seller only charged £1.55 for postage. The parcel arrived with a £3.10 label, so I feel kinda guilty about that, for some reason.

1801200305_IMG_20201022_1507192.thumb.jpg.a0c46b78699e28b25a23f7c75f6baa27.jpg

It's complete, and the legs work and all.

424800618_IMG_20201022_1507582.thumb.jpg.76b69196dc62bc9ea299afb59dad6e53.jpg

The way it all clips together is really quite clever, with the hooks clasping into the casting recesses.

1996613631_IMG_20201022_1507372.thumb.jpg.de510c7cc1b6cdd62e480ae35389320c.jpg

I'm not sure whether Corgi already had this version in mind when they launched the basic 493 pickup in 1975, but it's a nice conversion, achieved by simply removing the tailgate and towbar and adding in the camper body. It only lasted in the Corgi range until 1978.

This casting was also modified the same year to carry the lifting boom from the old Jeep Tower Wagon, so creating the 413 Mazda Motorway Maintenance Truck.

Not only, but also...

The Corgi 421 Land Rover.

132944460_IMG_20201022_1510392.thumb.jpg.c270acec4e40e3450de4886ba8ab9110.jpg

A smidge scruffier than I'd have liked - and unlike the nicely packed camper, this one arrived in a cat food box stuffed with the racing pages from the Daily Mail - but still not a bad buy.

1666539374_IMG_20201022_1510562.thumb.jpg.88b6ec0425caf22b7f2bc7c15601ade3.jpg

If I'd found this on the Tat Stall for a fiver I would have been well pleased, and it wasn't very much more expensive than that even with the postage and all factored in.

847244577_IMG_20201022_1510452.thumb.jpg.87a3fa09dd9834cf99a756c41780ccce.jpg

This was the first version of the SIII Land Rover 109 Station Wagon available as an individually packed model, in 1977 - initially a green camouflage one had appeared the previous year in the big No. 36 Tarzan gift set, while a white zebra-stripe version came with the No. 31 Safari gift set. The Safari version had a cut-out sunroof to position the supplied game warden figure, but the Tarzan one had a solid roof. This new release had no roof hatch and added a roof rack and side-mounted ladder.

The ladder's gone missing on this one, but that's ok since I don't think it looks all that good anyway - it nearly touches the ground.

This plain orange version only appeared for 1977, shifting an impressive 121,000 units, before being reworked in red with 'Forest Fire Warden' stickers down the side for 1978. It also appeared with a horse box in Metropolitan Police, RCMP and Pony Club gift set versions, plus later Corgitronics releases as a police vehicle and also as a road crew bus towing a compressor, amongst many others. They got their money's worth, for sure.

I used to have the red version, minus its stickers and rear door. I also had a much later 1990s RNLI version too, boxed. I sold them a couple of years back, because I'm stupid.

And yes, I used to have a red Mazda pickup too.

You can be sure that in 30 or 40 years' time, those'll be some sort of collector's Holy Grail... not sure I fancy storing them for that length of time, though!

The Range had some five-pack diecast with packaging highly suggestive of Hot Wheels, but nothing as blatantly IP infringing as that...

You know, it's only with all this coverage of camper bodies that I now realise why my B1600 is missing its tailgate. It's presumably missing much more than that.

And now... it wouldn't be Friday without a tat market round-up, would it?

It's definitely getting late into the year now. 7.30am and still kinda dark...

On entry, my fears were sadly confirmed as Market Blokey's stall remained vacant for a second week running.

1346047464_IMG_20201023_0759092.thumb.jpg.e56c415bbfbb2de0bb7a7691accbf3d0.jpg

I'm hoping he's simply jumped on a last-minute flight to the Canary Islands for a bit of sun, and not been struck down with the Dreaded Lurgee.

In fact, there were quite a lot of empty stalls overall, with others not yet set up. Presumably the downturn in footfall isn't really encouraging traders to get in all bright and early. This was the General Tatmonger's stall; the one who had the Rockets a fortnight ago.

1551958784_IMG_20201023_0807512.thumb.jpg.39f6ad24d9041fbe634efb16676b6929.jpg

I had a quick look over the other diecast hot-spots: Paddy's Antiques Shitshow had all its diecast carefully displayed inside an old banana box, hidden under the table.

598314683_IMG_20201023_0806562.thumb.jpg.ad89462df1547fa5ee683d6e0b97738c.jpg

There's about two million quid's worth of diecast in that box. By his pricing, anyway.

Dude really needs to work on his merchandising. He's also never around.

I could see the Charity Stall was still setting up, but OH LOOK...

2386561_IMG_20201023_0759534.jpg.04cb25d50d653d19cf917da28dc0c15f.jpg

One of my nemeses was already there, sans mask, riffling through the diecast boxes.

I started muttering to myself about what kind of emotionally defective freak has such a tragic life that he feels a need to rock up before 8am to look for old broken toys - then had a minor glasshouses/stones moment.

Yeah.

I thought I might go and grab a coffee while I waited for him to finish up and bugger off, but alas this was not to be:

1957145478_IMG_20201023_0801532.thumb.jpg.e67f88975695ca411ef617d6e5e444c3.jpg

Oh. Well, this is gonna put the tin hat on the people selling coffee, buns and breakfast rolls, rather - sure, you can buy stuff off them, but you'll have to go and stand outside in the rain to eat or drink it.

I get it - rules are rules. But since the market hall is basically a big draughty hangar and only notionally indoors, it hadn't occurred to me that this would disrupt my customary coffee and a scone. Well, how about that.

Eventually, after staring daggers at him for some time like the petulant child I am, I saw Nemesis #1 hand over some cash for that Joal Albion cement mixer missing its drum and toddle off, allowing me to finally get a shot at The Only Friday Tat Box In Belfast.

Wot, no Transits?

Actually, nothing new at all in there today, tragically... And the Corgi Citroen Le Dandy was gone and all.

That SZE Toys pirate copy of the Majorette Airport Coach is still there, though it's not really my cup of beans.

1747650010_IMG_20201023_0804492.thumb.jpg.3fb3d36d3638000102362065ace6ad6b.jpg

Still quite a few chipped and manky EFE/OOC buses in there and all.

502571121_IMG_20201023_0803572.thumb.jpg.cab97844fa4fd04666f5d5b8d9e25241.jpg

Ultimately, there wasn't much there to tantalise me today. So I left, unsatisfied.

One of the other general tat stalls had a few Hot Wheels, but that was pretty much it.

287918196_IMG_20201023_0824512.thumb.jpg.724c8e9f5764579cb2b8cd8b942c8162.jpg

Well, almost.

Clearly rattling from diecast withdrawal, I ended up with a modern Oxford 1/76 Mk2 Escort, from the fella who's been running a market stall since like forever.

1068911707_IMG_20201023_0954052.thumb.jpg.1fadb75b564b435f129ddc27ef1faefe.jpg

He mostly does cheapo greetings cards and puzzle books these days, but does have a smattering of diecast from time to time.

He did me this one for £6; possibly he still feels slightly guilty for all those mint boxed Corgi he bought off me for £3 a go in the mid-1990s, including a pristine boxed MG Maestro. And Chevrolet Caprice stock car. And VW Polo. Sigh...

He was also the one who had a load of Russian diecast, back when they were on the market.

Still, the Escort's not a bad wee model, even if it's hard to get the detail onto something as small as this.

The slightly later Transco version, paired with the compressor trailer, was also a nice job.

There must be dozens of variations made of this casting - I forgot to even mention the Jean Richard circus versions.

Apparently the rarest are a white 'Alpine Holiday Tours' example, of which only a small number were produced, and a Code 2 promo made for Solihull to celebrate the 1 Millionth Land Rover.
