Shite in Miniature II

As above, same here, thank you for sharing.

And I'll just echo Jon's sentiments about having a hobby. Too many people nowadays have a self-serving narrative or are otherwise desperate to 'make their mark'. There's something comforting with this thread about a simple and shared subconscious calling of the past.

That’s why it irks me when but the wife complains about how many I’ve got. To me it’s a reminder of a carefree time, playing on the rug in the front room as a kid, I think in the digital deathly dull world we live in these days you need that connection with 1991 or whatever.

For me, it was playing cars on the kangaroo skin! My Mum & Dad went to Australia for my Dad's work in the 1970's for a couple of years (he worked at the rocket range in Woomera, which has since been decommissioned) and someone there gave it to them as a gift, which they weren't that over the moon to receive. But a gift is a gift, so they kept it.

It was quite worn out and patchy in places by the time I was using it as a playmat, so was great as a sort of desert setting, with the leathery bits being great parking spots and the tail acting as a driveway/road of sorts. Or flip it upside down and it was a dirt track, etc.

Happy Days!

Thank you all for your kind replies, and for understanding why a grown man might have such a strong emotional attachment to such ephemera as some old toy cars. Like quite a few of us on here I went through a destructive phase around the cusp of my teens which I now bitterly regret but the things I posted yesterday would never have come to harm even then.

Hello ladies and gentlemen, I am reasonably new and have garnered up the courage to say hello on the fourum. This seemed like an appropriate place to introduce myself as small models are a huge hobby/interest of mine.
Heres my little collection so far :D

I picked up what appears to be NOS 2018 Hotwheels at Tesco this afternoon. They haven't had a delivery of new ones, or any MB since before Covid hit in March.

I am quite pleased with this one.

That's a brand new release - was only available as a premium car before

Think a lot of us did. I remember setting fire to my General Lee that I'd built from a kit, and putting a few Matchbox on the railway lines so they got squished. Both things I'd go nuts about if I caught my kids doing them.

Hello and welcome. Vanguards are a very good place to start, lovely models and can still be found for a good price second hand.

A couple more ghosts from the early 1980s for you now, again things I can't recall not having.

I think I mentioned before that I have the Range Rover version of the above although I recall it had a window box so might have been later. Probably around 1984. The plastic shell is definitely a rip of a Bburago, scaled up slightly.

Speaking of @Amishtat's youthful destructive phase, I've begun work on the Bburago Land Rover.

It's my first project in a while where I feel like the end result will be semi decent - I hope!

First thing was to get rid of some dubious marker pen on the front wing and wheels. Then I fashioned a front bumper out of a bit of plastic.

I used the dry wipe marker trick and the wheels have come out amazing.

There was a headlight missing sadly, but I have a cunning plan including slices of mini glue gun sticks for the lenses!

I've ordered some plasticard for the rear door, that will be an interesting task. Im just glad Land Rovers are so flat and square.

Not exactly "shite" but more, why would you buy that?

A couple of examples of rather dreary Fiats in 1.24 form recently landed on my doorstep:

....aaaand why not? A Fiat Doblo and a Fiat 500L.

I've actually driven a child-sick Beige Fiat 500L 1.3 a few years ago. I even had it for the weekend. A real anti-climax when you've driven greats such as the Abarth 595 and such forth. But I bought this model because I couldn't believe that a model maker would want to make one, particularly in 1.24 scale. But they did!

However the butch testosteronic image is dampened somewhat by the loud toyset alarm noise it emits when the doors are opened.

No maker on this one.  But we know who made it:  The God of Thunder.
