Can that gold Rocket finish be reproduced  to  as new  ? My Rocket Aston Martin is well worn ..

That's because it isn't a tipper. It's the number 425 flatbed coal lorry and would have carried some sacks and a weighing scale. Somebody's turned the headboard round for some reason - the Hall & Co name should be on the front.

I was going by what the base says - it looks like it could tip if the front pin was removed

Yes - if you polish the casting and use either spectraflame paint (expensive) or stained glass aerosols (cheap-ish)

Some of the Lone Star Impy cars went through similar changes,Jaguar Mk10,Lotus Europa,Toyota 2000GT etc

Yes they were trying to fight off bankruptcy so cheapened up lots of the castings. Didn’t save them unfortunately, it is a pity as the early ones with opening everything are lovely. There are still several I'd like to find.

Some of them went through a bit of a halfway house stage like the Taunus, early one has boot bonnet and doors that open

One I found the other day only has opening doors but a full interior, clear glass, suspension etc

As far as I know others transitioned straight to all cast shut

The glass in these later ones isn't actually opaque, just a very dark smoke

I guess it was a new variant using a different body on the existing tipper chassis and they didn't bother changing the base. Mint ones are worth strong money, around £150-200, and you could invest* in a reproduction box for a mere £23!

Dinky confused themselves as you don’t tip coal when it is in sacks. Because the sacks would split all over the road and Nora Batty would be out with her broom, clouting people.

:edited due to spannering.

That’s it, Dinky…!  Oof…

Survived the A303>M3>M25>M1, on a Sunday, then got into pub and been there ever since!

Got a few car bumpkin boot sale bags to sort through though, possibly just three bags of doom.

Transmission specified?  Yup, by Vanguards on at least one of their Triumph Dolomites.  I've never looked at one close enough to see if the interior moulding is affected...

Of course, the white 1850, got one up in the loft somewhere. I think it had a small boot badge denoting automatic but I doubt they would bother changing the shifter considering they're happy to knock out facelift MK3 Cortinas with sloping dashboards...

I've just been looking at a Vanguards group on FB.  Somebody's offering a mk2 Escort Mexico, Signal Green with a black vinyl roof, in box.  £120 + postage!  FFS!  I can't think of any model car I'd pay that for, let alone a current, routine model of what was a cheaply-tarted-up learner car in its day.  And a mere 1/43 scale too.

The world has gone mad; the above is conclusive proof.

£90 is still a long way beyond unacceptable.

Look, I know I've moaned here before about the prices people are asking/paying for model cars; I'm sure I will again.  It's "toys as investments" territory, which is absolutely alien to the genuine collector who buys what he can because he loves it.  (Note the male pronoun, as the female element in both groups is traditionally infinitesimal.)  It's an ongoing issue and a disaster for the hobby, because the young starter collector just can't deal with that level of pricing.  But also, I recognise that just because I think the thoughts above, doesn't mean that anyone else does/will/might, or that there is anything that can/should be done about it; or that there is any will to, anywhere in the community.

TL:DR I'm just having a moan.  It's raining, I've got stuff to do and the usual available funding.

It is crazy. I think that particular example is just the ‘OSF numpty’ cashing in any way they can. You see it also on eBay etc if you look for Matchbox Capri’s, Cortina’s and Escort’s.
Bloody annoying but equally annoying with the 1:1 scale cars!

If I was paying £90 or more for some models it’d have to be a damn sight more than one Vangaurds Escort! I don’t mind paying a bit on things but it’d have to be worth the expense and that just isn’t.

Saying that, you should see the price of some model railway items!

Eddy these are the kinds of guys who have have a big cliquey network, go around hoovering up valuable models from unsuspecting individuals or items that are otherwise genuine bargains for a pittance then either charging a fortune or passing it to one of their mates to make a profit on as a favour.

They are not collectors, they are buyers. The best thing to do is remember who they are and completely avoid them. The benefit of me being ripped off by one of them a few years ago is that I now know who all of his mates are and I can avoid them.

Just yesterday I told my wife that If I die first, to find an appreciative home for my old Dinkys and Corgis (for free), especially those that were handed down, put the valuable ones on ebay and then put the rest in a skip and watch the big JCB run it's spiked mincer back and forth over the whole lot. I will never let one of these profiteering bastards line their stinky little pocket at my expense.

My local B&M has had a sort out and restock at long last.

Found most of the Cars I've been looking for over the last few months and an extra for a mate. 20230814_134836.thumb.jpg.e9cb65b1b3e030e8950987b051a36cc9.jpg Do like an unusual rally car.

I know what you mean. When I was a kid you could amass a decent collection for not a lot from Jumble Sales, car boots etc but now it is much more difficult as everyone is an antiques expert - in reality they know very little. I’m talking about the ones in Charity Shops which are crazy money, the wife chastises me when I bring up the crazy prices offered in these places as it’s a charity, but it doesn’t give them carte blanche to rip people off.

Lately I’ve seen to most sensible prices at actual Swapmeets, car boots again seem to full of mad, ill informed people.

I did laugh though at the thought of them laying out all the diecast after the wake waiting for the plant hire folks to turn up with a back hoe to run over the collection 😂😂

Here's a curio. An unnamed 1/76 3D print of a DeLorean acquired on ebay a few years ago. It was quite roughly finished and a lot of ridges were apparent in the body so, inspired by the recent Hubnut test, I've sanded it down and repainted it. Looks far better now I think, but @eddyramrodwon't like it as it's the wrong material - an unpainted metal car modelled in painted plastic :)

Those Vanguards Escorts are not just pricey on Ebay and Facebook.

This is a result from April this year. After adding commission the buyer paid almost £560 for nine Vanguards Fords, that's double retail.

Christ!! Some people have more money than sense.

Maybe I should auction my Vanguards (which I didn’t pay these prices for!) 😆

Same is true in the world of retro electronics. A look on eBay or Marketplace for old hi-fi equipment seems to point to all the commonplace-but-good stuff – the heavily engineered Japanese silver boxes – having gone to the tip before anybody thought to preserve it, while endless crap from Argos is assigned insane values by the sort who think people will be clamouring to secure a Matsui midi system that needs new belts for its tape deck.

Incidentally, on Saturday I visited all the charity shops that Colchester has to offer, and I concluded that much of their stock is only there because nobody could be bothered to throw it away.

Nobody commented on the humorous name on the yellow bus behind the DeLorean so here it is: Buster Skulenbach.

I think it's a great name for a school bus company but nobody seems to have ever used it in real life.
