I have two sat in the workshop on a dusty shelf, I got them in a job lot a few years ago but I’m reluctant to bin them even though they are pretty crap!

I've been sorting through the loft for boxes of toy model cars and found some that I really like..

I may have posted this before, it's a 1/43 (maybe) Hot Wheels. It originally had all the Boss 302 stickers which were printed on clear vinyl  and they discoloured and I pulled them off and binned them, but wish I had them still now...

The shape of it is just right and I love the rear window louvres...

Bonnet, boot and doors open...

IMG_5808.thumb.JPG.4006952d11f5ee9beca207a7f3e9714f.JPG

Did they make many in this series?

Next up a Burago 1/24 scale Fiat 124 Abarth...

IMG_5811.thumb.JPG.e1c381c760947eaa1d741ea87348bbfe.JPG

Roof, bonnet and boot were white* which I didn't like and painted black. Looks much better...

*Edit; I think they were actually yellow yuck!

IMG_5812.thumb.JPG.71d5a774c44641b7653fa7dcb8664a45.JPG

Opening boot, bonnet and doors, always a disappointment if they don't on large scale...

Late to the party with a Corgi C111...

IMG_5790.thumb.JPG.fa44acb8c29a2efa42b75dfe3ae1c3c1.JPG

There was some talk about the Corgi Mk3 Cortina, I've just noticed mine is actually signed by Graham Hill, result!

Was there something about headlights? Is thsi good or bad?

IMG_5787.thumb.JPG.da8fd0299c1363580061a01fa6108a2e.JPG

Corgi 2CV, I bought two of these and the other I converted into a van painted cornflower blue, this is still in box with Woolworth's price sticker...

IMG_5784.thumb.JPG.85fdf7145b30d67952815d7a4aeed0b3.JPG

Looks like the Marathon Hunter has just biffed the roo...

IMG_5785.thumb.JPG.130571d2757b3e6c5f02a4ad243a3d7f.JPG

The wheels on this 350SL in fact not just them, but the detailing generally is superb...

IMG_5788.thumb.JPG.59626a1c241e76120b7a9071316e2fd9.JPG

911 Targa, I also have green one, but engine (bonnet or boot?) lid is missing and I cut the targa roof off...

IMG_5789.thumb.JPG.8b8e5463bffc7313aa30dc1afd8e6907.JPG

Corgi Lamborghini Miura with hole in windscreen from when it went under the settee, pretty sure I wasn't upset at all...

IMG_5792.thumb.JPG.98c1645a300c343fda81b0bec35f4702.JPG

Did they actually make any with "golden jacks"?

IMG_5795.thumb.JPG.ab9a688829dbc8801c6caa6d4a8e5f0f.JPG

The Dinky TR7 is really nice, I love the look of it as a model even though I'm not a fan of the real thing...

IMG_5791.thumb.JPG.bd9fd049bfa251c1f3642e9924da60ed.JPG

Welly Aldi Titty looks great as well, I recon these 1st gen cars will start to go up in value soon (IRL not Welly obv)...

EP3 R by New Ray, not a great model, but I still really like it for some reason...

Well I really enjoyed that, hope you're not all too bored by it...

Just remembered this Polistil Saab 99.

It's actually alright!

I don't think I've ever taken the lid off before let alone unscrewed it from the base. IMG_5783.thumb.JPG.fb194a5733a69ec2a00ea49c0cfc3640.JPG

Dude. That is awesome.

Potted history is that Mattel bought Mebetoys, who made some lovely things, and rebranded them as Hot Wheels. These were initially also fantastic. As time went on, the bean counters took over and the quality slipped a bit. OK a lot.

Mebetoys. This is the only pre-Mattel era one I've found, a Maserati Mistral Coupe

This was the first one I found, by accident really on eBay and bought it without knowing anything about them at the time - Lotus Europa

Last of the really great era examples in my collection is this Chevrolet Astro II Concept

As time went on, the quality decreased but they were still pretty good

Mebetoys VW Golf MK1Hot Wheels Mebetoys Porsche 944Hot Wheels Mebetoys Ford Escort

Later on it all went a bit cheap and nasty, but I still can't help buying them

20220114_15411620220114_15390020220114_154231

I've got plenty more unboxed ones tucked away.

The takeover did lead to some other interesting things, such as Mebetoys branded Hot Wheels;

Hot Wheels Mebetoys Auburn 852

But what I'd really love to get my hands on one day, are some of the larger scale versions of classic Hot Wheels produced during this period by Mebetoys;

Now I've made the mistake of looking on ebay and yeh, that R5 but  in red looks lovely and there's a Volvo 323 and Toyota 2000GT but crazy prices! Not bothered about the Rancho as I have Corgi and Juniors versions.

That 928 you've just added looks lovely too, what scale is it?

I got the Volvo 343 all the way from Australia. I really wanted it as it was mint and boxed. As this was 2006, postage wasn't that ridiculous and the car was cheap.

I don't know, fairly large though - puts me in mind of Bburago although I'm aware that doesn't help!

Missed another early Mattel Mebetoys that I need to take better pictures of - Lamborghini Miura

Been up in the loft today putting all the Xmas crap away, found this.

Box 1 of 2 of my toy cars from when I was little. I’ve not looked at these since about 2004 when we moved here. I can’t remember much of what’s there tbh! I think most is 70’s and 80’s stuff as I wasn’t old enough to have the old Dinky and Corgi toys era stuff I posted up earlier. I’ll have a sort through tomorrow while it’s raining out. I might have to thin this out too. Box 2 is buried under loads of other stuff at the moment (including a set of mk2 Capri seats!!)

I never liked that livery which is why I painted the yellow in black. I'm now toying with changing it to either red..

I think there was actually a yellow FF in existence built for the MD of JCB. Read that years ago in a mag when one came up for sale.
