It just goes to show what contempt Mattel have for the U.K. market when you see what a selection they get in France.

Lord Sterling's Belgian finds put my efforts in France to shame - I need to get to more large supermarkets!

You have to remember that to big business the UK is an insignificant little market , contrary to what we it's inhabitants are led to believe.

Hotwheels Sierra Cossie was only 1.99 €, there were 2 or 3 of which I bought one. As well as that, there was one of those Matchbox VW Golf country 4x4s. I bought one from eBay for a couple of quid morenonly to find a couple of weeks layer they had them in Cora!

It's based on a casting that's supposedly an 84 Olds 442  like this, so the colour is incorrect but the beige looks more shite correct

I'd like to track down the other three in the series but they're not available other than with a monster truck, other than this one that was in a 5 pack. The station wagon and van especially are appealing

Thanks! Interesting (to me) to see it's a European release rather than an American one. I've never knowingly seen any of those Gran Toros in the flesh. I prefer the more realistic wheels on my Miura, but I like the addition of wing mirrors. Some interesting ones in that range including a few which were never made as 'standard' Mebetoys

Often wondered how hard it would be to simulate a crash damaged mod on a matchbox. Any ideas?

Said every child 1979-1995, surveying their collection and remembering there's a bench vice in the garage.

Oh, man...

Yes, after extensive experimentation with a Record bench vice and lump hammer during the summer of 1985, I can confirm that it's quite difficult to replicate convincing crash damage on Matchbox, Corgi, Majorette, Hot Wheels, Siku, Guisval or indeed no-name 50p shop diecast.

I'm still fairly horrified at how many decent models I sacrificed in my attempt to build a 'toy scrapyard', but I guess I wasn't alone...

Anecdotally I found the front would never deform convincingly enough unless the windscreen pillars broke this simulating a fairly destructive head on crash. I never broke my own stuff but a kid on our street habitually broke his toys, I never understood why, so I used to pick up the remnants as spares once he’d ‘had his enjoyment’ from them.

Happily @Datsuncog many of yours now reside in Sierramans scrapyard!

I bought this 1:25 Schabak last year from Faz's diecast when they were half price. Sadly it had some imperfections, look a the driver's side a post and minor paint damage. They are about £15 on ebay, so for sale here given those issues, for £8 posted in UK. Obviously boxed.

I have seen effective results achieved by cutting wings etc off and replacing them with thick foil which bends easily. Alternatively...

I sort of mainly bought it for the rear end. I love the very accurate tail lamps, and the opening bonnet with the air scoop, and the big Abarth exhaust. There's a little twin-cam engine in there but it's hard to photograph. i just really like how it all sits from this angle.

I've had a couple pass through my hands over the years, but I don't think any were as-new.
