1970s tactile heaven vs awful 1980s husk.

I have one of those CX, the crummy wheels aside it’s a nice casting. The 205 though, it’s tat isn’t it, I have the Seat Ibiza of a similar era, if it didn’t say so on the base you’d have no clue as to what it was. Aren’t they both Mira? Guisval seemed much better by the 80’s. I seemed to remember a disproportions number of their models were advertising fags...

Both Mira yes. The CX is definitely a comfort blanket. The slippery shape and solid construction make it great to pass too and fro between my hands usually whilst ruminating over something. I rather like the wheels as they aren't loose but still roll really free.

Guisval went through a bad patch in the 1980s too though. My Renault 12 TS estate whilst not quite as solid as the CX in the wheels and suspension department still has a good casting, metal base, and is quite detailed. The Seat Malaga, Datsun Patrol and Audi 200 are just badly proportioned empty husks however, much like that 205. They must have quickly got their shit together because later offerings such as the Opel Kadett E,  later versions of the Seat 131, BMW CSL and Ford Granada are back the game although this time with a plastic base.

I consolidated a small selection of my Majorettes, Norevs and another assorted European diecasts into my wardrobe shelf the other day, to keep my Tomicas happy, which, by the way, very much pass the same tactile test as the CX!

#clubwardrobe here also...

The Matchbox stuff in the blue carry-cases used to live in a couple of wall display cases in the old house; however, I'm not sure if those will reappear in the design scheme for the new place.

Also #clubunderbed...

Not sure what's to become of these either.

I've the recent Corgi Model Club repros in the top of the bureau I currently work from, along with some other odds and ends. But the bureau's also slated for rehoming, so who knows...

Pity the married diecast collector.

Heh, funnily enough that's exactly why I kept that CX on my desk in work - it really is wonderfully tactile.

That's a decent loft.

I'll probably be flooring ours at some point in the new place - unfortunately it's still too low to stand up in, just like the previous place.

did store my diecast up there, until MrsDC twigged that much of the stuff occupying the attic space was diecast... hence the haphazard and bitterly-regretted fire-sale back in January.

At least the cull survivors are a bit more accessible now they're under the bed, and I can pull out one on a daily basis and look at it while I'm working.

Today's pick: 1/43 Peugeot 504 Rurale.

I hide diecast in my wardrobe as well... the wife goes mad. Fuck ‘em, every man has to have a hobby.

Most of mine is in the loft, some in the attic over the barn, some more in the back bedroom (still not unpacked 15 months after we moved here..) and there's some dotted about in the garage too. I wouldn't be able to get away with a wardrobe stash, but this is the second house where I've been able to have a  diecast shelf in the kitchen. For anyone else who feels like trying this,it seems to help if you're at least a foot to eighteen inches taller than your partner..

Don’t encourage him, that’s @bunglebus  ‘Days Gone’ and ‘Yesteryear’ stash, it’s why he hides it in the loft!
For example one of those boxes contains nothing but MIB Model T vans with ‘TV Times’  fictional livery 😉

Okay, I'll admit I have developed a problem with buying this shite. Latest arrivals.

Mercury Fiat 124 Sport Coupé - I think this is serial number 312 but it's not marked. The '300' series was Mercury's early 1970s range which was cheaper, less detailed than its previous models. Alongside is the Politoys Export Fiat 124 Spider, number 555.

20220528_111909.thumb.jpg.c806adadc42cf9ec1bbafae835867175.jpg

Had to be done, because where else are you gonna find models of these cars? Neither are particularly detailed, the Politoys in particular is quite basic, but it does have an opening bonnet with engine detail and that very fragile windscreen. This is one of the less attractive colours offered, but beggers can't be choosers (when 'beggers' signifies 'UK-based collectors of rare Italian diecasts)

20220528_111925.thumb.jpg.af87f0bb3289b7b2bf530f9f47b98cb0.jpg

Not much to go on underneath....

20220528_112002.thumb.jpg.21ba76cee9fc9d792f641e8adb5bb431.jpg

Still, two more I've wanted for a while. Just need to get the Pilen 124 (which is an 'AB' series car with the quad headlamps) and the Mercury 124 saloon and then I'll have the whole range, for some reason.

Next up is a classic 'Why did they model that?' example. The Mercury No. 29 Alfa Romeo Canguro

20220528_112016.thumb.jpg.0202a47c0bece92080621196c7fb9adf.jpg

This was a one-off concept based on the TZ chassis, with a GRP body styled by Bertone. Pretty weird (although very sexy) subject matter, but Politoys also did one in 1:43 and in 1:66 'Penny' form. There was a Spanish Joal copy of the big Politoys, too. I don't (yet) have any of those to compare to this one, but watch this space.

art-mg-alfatz2canguro4.thumb.jpg.ca31ce7d9c347b1f96a4b31e7a863506.jpg

The Mercury is pretty nice, although typically a bit lightweight

20220528_112029.thumb.jpg.cfd11b9468752d739c34d394dc0a7d2f.jpg

Rear window has had some damage and is a bit fogged. This was filthy when it arrived but I took it apart and washed all the bits and it now looks pretty snazzy again.

20220528_112045.thumb.jpg.a861fbe81ed2492b794efeb938ff1041.jpg

Some opening bits, although the bonnet doesn't open very wide there is an engine just visible in there. Overall a pretty nice thing, although my edicated guess is that the Politoys will trounce it on accuracy/quality.

Very worryingly, the bloke I got these from reckons he has multiple examples of every single Politoys and most Mebetoys and is now thinning out his collection, so will be sending me a full list of what is available. I can forsee this getting very expensive very quickly.

First decent charadee shop find in ages. £2.29 job lot

IMG_20220528_174501small.thumb.jpg.79b0bb5ea8c064bcd9f46ddc515fcf77.jpg

I mainly bought it for the Majorette Bmw.

I'm not sure the cab goes with the trailer having yellow arches on the trailer.  The wheels on the red F1 car hot are really good for Hot Rods being big and little wires.

IMG_20220528_182503small.thumb.jpg.1417321e88dfd845fefeb2d19350ee18.jpg

The Saviem had a missing grille, so I made one from a Ae86 speedo face off cuts not perfect but it will do.

I had to park these two together as they are both ex Charity shop.

Nice one. The Majorettes draw me eye, I've got a tattier example of the BMW and for some reason I've ended up with a few of the trucks at that scale. They often seem to have missing mirrors, broken horns etc.

I'm glad it's not just me that gets the odd model out of display or the loft for a bit of a 'fondle'.

This one came out today for a play.

Its weird, often I'll be browsing on eBay and see something and think, "ah, I haven't got one of those". Then I'll be in the loft and realise I had one all along. Lately I've been browsing Astra coupés, I forgot I got this Minichamps Opel dealer edition during lockdown. As one would expect from Minichamps, it's a lovely thing.

I suppose I'm lucky, spouse wise. I've always been 'allowed' to have a display cabinet in the front room to host 'some' diecast. Naturally I cram in as many as possible...

I'm jealous of that nice tidy loft set up.

That was a fair bit of work. When I moved in the loft was an unboarded black hole with junk piled up around the hatch.

Several pine shop displays and spare internal doors are now up there as flooring along with lights and a ladder.

First loft I've had that you can stand up in too, my previous one was experienced on my knees, not fun.

Luckily I get all sorts of useful bits in the course of my job, brough home a big stack of the storage boxes the other week, it does make life easier knowing roughly where things should be

I was selling again today, not that we made a huge amount thanks to slightly threatening weather.

I resisted buying old comedy car stickers as they were too expensive - funny enough this joke came up on another thread yesterday
