Yes - and I think unusual in that the rear lights are painted red - only the early ones were. I take it the base says VOLKSWAGEN and not VOLKSWAGON?

I painted tail lamps and number plates on most of my cars. This one looks as if he has a "Hitler" 🙂

Next I have a VW Transporter by Husky. The internet says that this is a luggage belt. When I was a child I thought it was a farm vehicle, hence I "weathered" it with painted mud effect. The belt is in good condition and works .

OK I can now reveal why I was taking these two apart, I actually tried doing this when I was a kid, using a hacksaw and a file borrowed from the household toolbox. Hopefully my skills are somewhat improved now.

Body is the first release cream version that has nice crisp lines (and a casting flaw at the bottom of one of the windows) and the base is the hot rod version to lose the spare wheel. Wheels are unknown out of the spares box. Think the chop and red primer gives it a nice 50s look, I could have lowered it but that wasn't really a thing back then

Love that. Do you use chemical metal to bond metal parts back on? What about axles - do you just buy bar and tap the ends over to reattach wheels?

It was just superglue on this one, I have used chemical metal but more to fill holes where a part has been removed.

As for axles those weren't altered other than adding a spacer behind each wheel (section of biro insert) to bring them out to the edges of the arches.

I try and use original axles if possible, some people get away with peening the cut end but it never works for me, I normally use a small blob of gel superglue and paint it silver once it's dried.

It's lovely when you find the right wheels on axles the right width but it doesn't always work that way

Did a bit of shopping today and found some 2022 Hot Wheels at Lidl! A couple in here that I haven't even seen previews of,

RX 7 is nice, but not really that different to the Then and Now version from 2017

Sadly this one is spoilt by the fact that all the racing graphics mean that there is no detailing front and rear on this one, a shame because I like the tail lights on these. Although the tiny blue Mustang logo on the grille (because electric) is a nice touch.

Had a delivery this week too, but only just got round to photographing it. I can now join the ranks on here of people who have taken possession of a 'CogBox' (TM).

Now, despite my tendency in car ownership to be largely on the Teutonic side, I do have quite a wide taste, and a lot of French cars float my boat.

IMG_20220213_162357.thumb.jpg.f3d461fc73343d4fbcd8890cc05cbb14.jpg

The Ixo part-work Solara is one I've fancied for a while, but never got round to getting, so when @Datsuncog offered this up for a fiver, I jumped at it. I've had a soft spot for the Alpine/Solara since my brother had a T reg Alpine, around about 1987. While his contemporaries were flying around in Escorts and Minis (and one maniac with a terminally rotten Alfasud), my brother started his motoring career with a Sandglow Allegro Special, then the Alpine (MGR 330T with Serck acrylic plates!) In a very similar colour to this model. Being the S model with the 1442cc engine it went pretty well and, it being 1987, he jazzed it up with some 'graphics' and colour coded the bumpers.

IMG_20220213_163755.thumb.jpg.605240d39d041233b8f2f02e7c3e745e.jpg

I'm quite happy with this one. For a cheap part-work model, it's pretty finely detailed.

IMG_20220213_163807.thumb.jpg.aed5a4b8165b41b78af7d09bfd430591.jpg

The wipers don't look too clunky and it's nice to see an actual aerial, normally you only get details like that on the likes of Minichamps.

IMG_20220213_163831.thumb.jpg.8ac5d295bf7001b1be5c5ed459d23205.jpg

Wheels are accurate, as is  the tiny wing badge.

IMG_20220213_163909.thumb.jpg.9097669c0812b13f206b8f18bc7b7442.jpg

Badging is weird though, should it be Talbot on the bonnet and Simca on the boot? One or the other surely.

IMG_20220213_165328.thumb.jpg.68fc21b28b666e2021b7aed5fd7d1f02.jpg

Interior is very good for the price. Normally on part-works, its just one big single coloured  blob but it's nice to see a different coloured dash (with great clock detail, again not far off Minichamps standard) and  the controls picked out in black. Good door card detail too.

Other Cog-purchase was this,

IMG_20220213_162328.thumb.jpg.ff5b59e321d0309b4d896cedbccf7a7a.jpg

I'm a sucker for diecast in dealer packaging, and Renault stuff from the '90s was among the best.

The MK1 Mégane is another one I've wanted for a while as a 'car I've had experience of' in miniature. Back in 1996, my parents loved their Mk7 Escort Mexico but had had enough of scrotes breaking into it. After three busted door lock mechanisms, they looked at what was in the local Reg Vardy dealership. They had a batch of delivery mileage Mégane hatchbacks, not long after the Mégane had been launched, at a heavily discounted price. Mum & Dad liked the Megane's shape and the comfy seats so bought N927 TCN, a 1.4 RN in a nice greeny blue metallic. It was a nice car, I used it a couple of times, but the 1.4 8 valve engine seemed a bit underpowered, compared to the 1.6 16  valve Escort.

There is a Vitesse model of the Mégane hatch in the same colour as the one Mum & Dad had but sellers want £30 and upwards for them. So a fiver for this saloon model is good enough for me...

IMG_20220213_161708.thumb.jpg.ec5d6a4501e8c8e0147435d06706e9af.jpg

Luckily, as it happens, I think the Classic is one of the best looking saloon versions of a hatch. Vitesse did a really good job of modelling it.

IMG_20220213_161759.thumb.jpg.a571a38226d2cf3eac78db623a92a6fa.jpg

Painted tail lights give it's 1990s origins away a bit, but the tampo printed badges look decent andcheck out the rear screen detail!

IMG_20220213_161929.thumb.jpg.df1abef199bd87e6e55bcc35fcb2d710.jpg

Dash detail is good and of course where Vitesse models of this era score heavily is in the printed interior detail, easily up to the standard of premium models of the day.

Another example of a well modelled mundane car, just the sort of thing I like! It  goes really well with the dealer packaged Laguna I got earlier in the year,

Glad both the Solara and the Mégane showed up safely - after their impromptu tour of the country caused by my own confusion over address labels. All's well that ends well...

The Solara partwork is really nicely done, detail-wise. I can't say for sure what the score is with the Talbot/Simca badging - but my '84 Datsun Sunny had a Datsun badge on the grille and a Nissan badge on the tailgate, seemingly from new, so maybe there's precedent.

The Mégane Classic is good too - to my shame, I've never even had it out of the box. I think I got it around 2010 from the last diecast swapmeet I attended, along with a dealer-boxed Espace (now with @NorfolkNWeigh); it's nice, but I've no real personal connection to such cars, so good to know they've gone to an appreciative home!

I think that's the very last of the Tat Box parcels now with their new custodians - thanks all for your purchases (and patience), and hopefully once the house move is done I'll be in a position to rediscover my diecast stuff again.

I’d forgotten there’s an Espace in my package, which incidentally is safely here, thank you. The family have taken control as it’s my birthday next week, so at least some of my presents will be stuff I want!  Apart from a Corgi Rockets P1800 and a couple of Land Rovers, I can’t actually remember what else is in there, so it’ll be a surprise.

Some of you may recall a while back I bought two boxed Majorette monster trucks still in their postal boxes (I believe these were a mail in promo but I've not investigated). Well I found another set, so now I have this one too

And a spare one of the red and gold variants

*edit* found the promo from 1994

Talking of promotional items, that DeLorean came in a job lot with all sorts of dodgy transformers, McDonald's Hot Wheels etc - and a pair of these;
