You'd have thought either Mr. Spoor or myself might have picked up on that since I believe we're the only two on here who actually own Westminsters, albeit not that shape.

Here is mine a few years ago. It is not on the road at the moment.

What a lovely car-Grampian grey or Trafalgar blue? Can't tell from that picture. Mine is a 1959 A99 which hasn't been out (or even started) since last July. Must try harder. It is possible to get a model of this, and it's even in these colours but the cheapest one I've seen was a smidgen over £200 and that's far too much in my book.

Jeez, I am so jealous of all the big Westminsters. I would absolutely love one!

Anyway, it's new diecast time again here. This time, we have the Joal Seat 850 coupé

20220207_222001.thumb.jpg.2c57f050f1ca3fecb98dacd50e5c8cd4.jpg

This is a 1970s recast of the old 1960s Mercury Fiat 850. There were at least two versions - this one, with wheels very similar to the Mercury and yellow plastic headlamps, and another with more realistic 'steel' wheels and jewelled headlamps. Not sure which is earlier. Shame about the damaged emblem on the front there.

It's pretty nice, actually, one of the better Joals I've seen. It suffers from typically thick and dull paint but the simplicity of the model helps the overall details I think - only the front boot opens.

20220207_222010.thumb.jpg.cc72d14af2a981db9d5c8d999e4f8717.jpg

The only difference from the original is the 'Fiat' script on the rear panel has been replaced with 'SEAT' and the number plate is now cast-in rather than a transfer.

20220207_222026.thumb.jpg.58c70a9c3386d4a508164d2eaae9067a.jpg

Fairly plain base with some approximate suspension details on the rear.

Overall a pretty nice little thing. The Mercury is expensive and not easy to find, so this was a nice cheap alternative. The shape really does capture the essence of the real thing nicely. Of course I now need to find the contemporary 850 spyder and berlina, and probably the Politoys coupe for a compare-and-contrast. Ho hum.

Nice colour combo. Mine is Trafalgar blue. With round dials and painted wood effect dash. The changes with the interior specs is not very consistent.

It came with another Rancho missing the tailgate...

There are sometimes particular cars that are popular and therefore hard to find, as they're either bought by collectors or by re-sellers (Sierra Cosworth was a recent example), but also special "Treasure Hunt" cars, which are about as easy to find as hen's teeth it seems. I used to find a few a year but I'm convinced they're putting less of them in the boxes destined for the UK, America seems to still get plenty. Long story that I could bore you with for ages!

I've still got my original garage block like that! Which cars came with yours? Mine's got the original Corgi Juniors AMC Pacer, Ford Sierra, Citroën Dyane and a Merc 240D. I guess they must all date from 1983ish.

I liked those garages because they reminded me of the council blocks of garages near us as a kid. Stupidly I ended up selling mine!

I didn't actually want a Majorette engine, but it was in with some other bits

Wasn't really after any of these either although they're mildly interesting - don't think I have the Matchbox SD1 in this exact livery

That one ^ looks like a loose copy of the Hot Wheels 36 Ford/Neet Streeter.

Talking of Hot Wheels, my main target was this Packin' Pacer

I do have one but the lot was cheap and old Hot Wheels are not any more. Came with this one too

In other news, this Corgi Volvo 245 in doom blue arrived today20220209_181320.thumb.jpg.638a1fd601ce9956bbb482bf8e747d9e.jpg

The wheels show that it's a late issue,I've not seen one in this colour before. There's no maker's name on the base20220209_181211.thumb.jpg.6a0d5e2f32f6cb2df3e9ce7fd2d23b0d.jpg

My sister and I each had one of those in the 60s, when they were yellow, branded Husky, and could be bought without cars.  We (mostly I) had plenty of little Husky cars to go in them though.  Several Citroen DS Safaris for example.  I did find one a while ago; not sure if I kept it or not, I'll have to look.  I also had a suburban single garage for 1/43 scale, which I think was Corgi branded; like the Husky blocks, it got a bit battered over time.

Budgie and Lesney were making very similar products in the 50s, without seeing the base I would have said that was a Matchbox

was that addressed to me? If so This shows that model No.11 Post Office van was made by Budgie There are   many variations but mine has the black rear wheel arches I concluded that this is a version made by Budgie.

Funny how it goes. As soon as the weather gets warm enough to contemplate fiddling with die casts, I get busy at work and end up with with a lost of other tasks that take priority.

Still, I have a handful of projects on the go, and tinkered with a couple of other bits. Dinky Volvo custom gained a pair or original headlights to replace the home-made set it wore previously. I painted the backs with chrome which I think is an improvement 20220211_155419.thumb.jpg.69cc7ed133831fcd84817945497b209a.jpg

This one I feel a bit silly about. I've been chasing a Caper Cart with all its chrome parts in good shape to allow me to fix my copper version which had no front bumper. I was working on the assumption that the bumpers and sidepipes were all one piece of chromed plastic, but having dismantled the toy show donor from last weekend, I find they're four separate parts - so I've acquired and passed on several perfectly good donors because a sidepipe or rear bumper was damaged. This one's not perfect, but then nor is the car
