That's a nice little landscape you have there, home made or something you've bought?

Homemade;  6"x6" cardboard base with a 3" wide strip of cork laid diagonally for the road. The cork was painted with black and white acrylic paint mixed to make a dark grey resembling tarmac. I bordered the road by laying a bead of PVA glue with sieved cat litter over the top. When I brushed away the excess cat litter, it left a nice weathering effect on the road - accidental bonus! I spread PVA either side of the road and laid model railway grass on one side and dried builder's sand on the other. It looks a bit incoherent as a piece of scenery, but I only made it to practice before I try building something larger.

That's ex-Solido. I'm not sure of the details, but there was a handful of Solido castings marketed under the Dinky banner in the early 1980s. I have a Dinky-branded Citroen Visa (and a Solido version, actually). Not sure if it was just for the benefit of the UK and maybe US markets where Dinky was a more familiar name?

There's also a Fiat Ritmo/Strada,a Peugeot 504,& a BMW 5 Series that I know of.

You can get them direct for €69 plus shipping and whatever UK customs decide to add on

They Should be tax free up to £130ish but I've heard some buyers getting stung

Thought I'd treat myself for Xmas, wanted a 1/18 scale sapphire cosworth but all usual makes are over 100 quid, so I took a gamble on a make called model car group, hopefully not too tacky..

It's a big shout out to one of the great Tims of this district, @Amishtat, for the arrival of a package from Sctlnd, containing considerable joy.

20211222_191313-01.thumb.jpeg.36c1aa2484dda0098276836b183c6b06.jpeg

Three lumps of it, to be precise.

There's the Norev Renault 12, which Tim correctly identified as being the perfect partner to the Dacia Denem Estate that came from Norn Iron Tim.  Very much looking forward to having the duo posed together, but the Dacia is currently packed away in the garage pending the house move which, well, will happen soon. We're assured. Sporadically.

Then there's the Buick Riviera, which is of course a Corgi Trans-o-lite, and I'm incredibly excited to add it to my collection.

20211222_183517-01.thumb.jpeg.4d450f0ad8311444f1caece5d46dde17.jpeg

It's just gorgeous in every way. I can't stop looking at it, from front and back, and then drinking in the details on its bodywork. It even has precisely the right degree of patina. This is how I imagine a 1965 Riviera looking circa 1982, roaming around some isolated one-horse town in the Mid-West, being driven by the same guy who bought it brand new, when times were better and he was working, and has somehow hung onto it. He's an old man now, and his Riviera is more important than life itself.

And speaking of the improbable survival of something, the third item is a Colchester Corporation lost luggage tag! Found at the Magdalen Street depot shortly before demolition. I love tangible links to the past like this. Things that somehow manage to out-fox the space-time continuum and exist in a world they should by rights have vacated years ago.

Cheers Tim!

I don't buy many Hotwheels, but this one was compulsory. It's the DeLorean time machine from Back to The Future part III.

Nicely detailed and because the detail is moulded in, it still feels rugged and sturdy. It must be said that Hotwheels roll much better than my usual fare of Greenlight and Auto World. It's the finish that lets the model down; not very convincing. Clearly painted silver instead of a brushed finish. It's not even painted well.

Unfortunately, the wheels sit just either side of OO gauge rail track.

IMG_0738.JPG.d904c29c156dada40105ea489386102d.JPG

However, there's room to move the wheels inboard by shaving the stubs off and trimming the axle.

Hot Wheels have definitely had some mileage out of the DeLorean/Time Machine. I do have that one even though the third film is my least favourite of the trillogy.

I was trying to collect all the DeLoreans but there are just so many premiums and a Super so it's not feasible really.

I'd like the Japanese one and have bid on them in the past but always been out-bid

The 1...

20200425_104914

And 2 Time Machines are pretty good but these are full premiums so you would hope so

20190428_130413

The ID version is nice too

20200126_153813

I did have a go at replicating the correct finish on this one, not sure how easy doing it to a Time Machine would be with all the gubbins on the outside

Had a bit of a check through my Superkings today, I’ve got various bits and bats that have the trailer but no tractor and vice versa. There’s loads I need to pick up that I had as a kid and in my absence got chucked out.

Posted

Yep I know the feeling except a lot of mine were either sold in moments of madness (mint Roadblasters) or kept out of spite by my ex wife.

I like putting tractors, trailers and loads back together when I find them, but it can drive you mad at times.

I also find myself going down daft rabbit holes looking at miniscule casting variations etc, today it's been the 8c Mustang. There are base variations (Patent, slot for the steering), wheels (plastic with chrome caps or chrome wheels with separate tyres) as shown here2021-12-23_06-21-11.thumb.jpg.8cac93b6280bd2ebd818070c17871080.jpg2021-12-23_06-20-31.thumb.jpg.ae0accd6a5b59e043b4724d1f2c5082e.jpg

There's also an alteration to the body where the vent behind the window got shortened

Screenshot_20211223-182308_Flickr.thumb.jpg.a1e819b41739269dd5fa435a473e6787.jpgScreenshot_20211223-182343_Flickr.thumb.jpg.50aaf74755b1a10e1a43e099e142dd8f.jpg

There are even different thicknesses of tow hook. Is it possible to own every variation? I doubt it

I haven't even got one Mustang! Should have bought one 25-30 years ago for my MIB Superfast collection, I dread to think how much I'd have to pay now......

Bagged some Majo-kit pieces on Trademe for the 50p start price! Even with postage it was less than £3 all in, so a very cheap way to whistfully relive a childhood toy I'd almost forgotten I'd had.

It all came flooding back when connecting up all the snappy, fragile plastic bits, though. Don't think I ever had a rubbish bin but remember several of the plant pots and the (missing) flowers that would always be loose in the toy box.

20211224_091436.thumb.jpg.34593822bca2633b215db4698adf8c3d.jpg

Here's a set-up as I imagine Majorette would show it (ignoring the different eras) - didn't know I had so many Majorettes!

20211224_091350.thumb.jpg.4396008f28309e16c96ec5070c2b9d32.jpg

But I know the varying scale would've annoyed me as a child, plus I saw everything from a RHD perspective, so here's likely how I'd have built it, back in the day. Various brands, a sliding scale of, er, scales, cars packed in and nothing too wildly incongruous, though the Jeep and Chevy Chevette show a bit of artistic licence.

I'm guessing I wasn't the only boring child, on this page...

I've got a pair of tiny Fabia's that I bought off t'interwebs whilst having one too many.

Excellent! I like it too, not dissimilar to the modern Tomica Hypercity range (of which we got a fair bit for Master SL when he was young, but I don't think is available here any more).

I picked up a Majo-kit filling station set at a toy fair, then got a bundle of stuff from someone on here and have since bought some complete sets off eBay.

One day I'll have to get it set up again for some more photos (not playing, no, honest).

Like the Tomica stuff, some of it's quite delicate and I wonder how well it would stand up to everyday play.
