Needed some gardening bits today and they were still there, so grabbed them for you.

In my rush I said no to a receipt like a jelly Brain and still have no idea what they cost. @bunglebus 😕

The HW Flying Customs in my local B&M were never priced on the shelves either, for some reason.

Receipt shows they were a bit dearer than the mainlines, at £1.99 each - would that tie in with your overall spend?

They’re crafty fuckers, they’ll mix in all the crap with something vaguely decent then pluck a number off the highest figure they’ve seen a boxed one listed for on eBay

Only went in for Grass Seed and those Cars. Spent £40 with random extras. 😆

Sun was out this morning,so I stopped off at the car boot on the way to work.First impressions were good, there were about 25 stalls(5 times more than last week),but I ended up coming away empty handed. One stall did have some loose 1/43 cars, but nothing I really fancied.

Never mind,I called in to pick up a DanBox after my last delivery20230517_160859.thumb.jpg.afef04ce4dd7a2d60be685d98704bb7b.jpgNice to see you again @danthecapriman

That Kingfisher blue is a later version.

I have a couple of pre-production models on the shelf and it is interesting to see how they differ.

I don't think there were any Spot On cars at all, the only thing they had was the Arkitex buildings. I think someone mentioned them on here fairly recently.

We were out all day today and on the doorstep when we got home was a Flat(4Alfa)pack addressed to me in the Summer House (haha). Mrs Concern was intrigued despite the inquiry “what have you been buying now?”

So it was a nice selection of Corgi Minis (you can’t have too many!) a Corgi Ferrari I’ve never had before, a gawky Dinky Stingray I’ve never had either and a lovely Polistil Alfasud!

IMG_6798.thumb.JPG.8190aec1142ab27f132660e08b7dc728.JPG

Strange rear treatment of the Alfasud, would the lights have been painted on originally?

IMG_6799.thumb.JPG.a0f666e763187e413a3b1b359829dfb3.JPG

Also totally not expecting a couple for Mrs Concern to put in the Summer House!

She absolutely loves them!

My old school looked like it was made from Arkitex. Sounds great stuff but I expect it was pretty bloody expensive back in the day as I believe Bayko was.

I've been very good lately. Aside from a couple of opportunistic 50p box finds in scattered emporia, my diecast fast has been pretty successful.

It was bound to come to an end, though, and I thought, with a CogBox en route and a Hotwheels 560 SEC winging its way over courtesy of @bunglebus, that I might as well go the whole hog. So I've gone and bought a Metro. And probably the worst kind.

Metro1.thumb.jpg.2427fdb2b0cdd64f3ec5a8d4829e6ca3.jpg

Yes. That one.

The cheesy souvenir one. One of the very cheesiest and most cynical model releases to ever be foisted upon the diecast-loving public.

Yet, perversely, that rather attracts me to it.

Metro2.thumb.jpg.3385910b16087e7dfea65b427e3bd0c9.jpg

I'm pretty monarcho-sceptic, but I do like acknowledging historical events, and the wedding of he to her was kind of a big thing that year. It being the year that I was manufactured, too, gives this tacky (£2.49 in Gamleys) bit of bandwagon-jumping novelty merchandise extra relevance to me.

It's also a reasonably inexpensive way to obtain a BNIB 1:36 Corgi Metro...

Metro3.thumb.jpg.53b9b6e80d04678939ac3baba3ca6d27.jpg

.... Should you want such a thing.

And you probably shouldn't. I did, though. I owned one once, a metallic blue one, which I think I liberated from the lost property box at the primary school my mum taught at.  Its demise, like many a Metro in the early 90s, came with me making an effort to burn it out in the 12 year-old Essex joyrider mode. I did a pretty hopeless job of it, and ended up  sheepishly binning it lest my mum discover my latent pyromaniacal leanings.

And I've felt guilty about it ever since.

Metro4.thumb.jpg.43385ba54b1ed292b97e63e29b6ea3ce.jpg

I quite like Metros. Formative school reading material included The Little Red Metro books by Avril Rowlands, and I've had a fondness for the dreadful, hideous bouncy things ever since.

And this model captures the little shitboxes quite nicely.  The wheels are somewhat over-wide (and amusingly MG Midget Ro-stylesque), and the stance is a bit leaky Hydrogas suspension, but the shape is good, grille-moulding fault and comically large badges aside.

Metro5.thumb.jpg.7275d7e8eed1fd51b83efee982f83edd.jpg

The interior, seemingly cast from Milkybar, is relatively well simulated, with The Big Shelf in full effect, joined by semi-accurate seats with tilting backrests and correctly split head restraints. Hinge doglegs are a bit enormous, though, and the steering wheel is somewhat less horizontal than in the prototype.

This little beauty* cost about a tenner delivered, and I don't massively regret that outlay. As 1981 releases go, they don't come much more Of Their Time than this.

Many thanks to @doug for these, very generous indeed, I'm absolutely over the moon with them.

I thought I'd want to part with the prewar stuff but as the models are pretty detailed, I'm all the more intrigued by them.

All but one of the magazines are present, 79 in total and I already have the missing Nissan Prairie in the loft bringing the total number of cars to 67. That makes just 1 magazine to get (they definitely didn't do 100 issues) and 13 cars.  So I'm going to have to complete the set aren't I?!

Here are some highlights:

20230517_225642.jpg

20230517_225839.jpg

20230517_225844.jpg

20230517_225854.jpg

Some belters in there. The majority are Solido castings and are infinitely nicer and more detailed than the Corgi equivalents. Many of them have nice opening features, detailed exhausts and interiors.

My favourite is the Fiesta, Peugeot 806 and the Taunis 17m cabriolet. The Bugatti Royale is impressive too!

So I'm going to hold onto these for now but I think I'll still get a bunch of alternative diecast together and do a charity roffle once the others have completed as there are quite a few on the go at the moment.

Again, absolutely delighted with these and it also meant a nice run out and it was also great to meet Doug and his fleet!

I don't do models, but I was very tempted by the Prarie and 928 when I saw them for just £3 each, boxed at a toy fair a few months back

My aunt used to have a red Metro like that and her middle name was that of the Queen Mother, lol.

In that case could be worthwhile

- gain nice colour Mini Cooper

- gain oddball Majorette with some sort of motor inside

- another Fox body Mustang to sell on or customise

- another Camper to sell on or customise

- and not really expensive considering it's in your hand and not need postage costs

But that's the sort of thinking that got me into this mess
