Got out of Work early today and decided to pop by Tescos.

Picked up these two, finally got a Honda.

I'm sure the Landy is in the same box as the Kadett and 36 Ford but no sign of them. There was also a 48 Willys in Khaki, White Food van , Road Roller & a rubbish self driving bus thing.

In other news these are in the works.

Chopped up to make a crew cab to go with a single cab I made out of a ruined older matchbox.

Today's reminder that I seriously need to acquire some cleaning wipes for my laptop:

Think this may be an IXO model, maybe? One of those 'Opel Collection' partworks that continental types get to enjoy from , while us over here just get to browse the Jumajo website with green-eyed lust...

Unfortunately, this one had a minor accident on the way over - busted box and damaged headlight.

Ah well. Still very nice.

I am jealous. All I get is the cat occasionally sitting on my laptop. You get great die-casts.

Soon before I moved house I recieved a support package from our Norn Iron correspondent and diecast tat Tzar, @Datsuncog.

Now that we've been established in the new digs for a few months and much of the unpacking has been tackled (or at least all the untouched boxes have been stowed where they're out of the way), I feel that I can gingerly bring some bits down from the loft and play with them a bit.

So. Johnny Lightning.

FWAKOSnXgAIDdPF.thumb.jpg.ac65acfc3a524f0888a22098169302ab.jpg

Of the selection that the Cogmeister provided, I think this '62 Chevy Bel Air is my favourite, although that's subject to change without warning. It's absolutely glorious. My only reservation from this angle is that the front track looks excessively narrow, but after taking this pic I noticed that the wheels could have been slid a wee bit farther along their axle.

FWAKQNZWIAAfQxd.thumb.jpg.c378deef1528cdede54466ce582b3167.jpg

Otherwise, it's absolutely glorious. The casting is really crisp, the paintwork is deep and lustrous, the tampos are vivid and straight and the proportions are spot on. And, unlike Hotwheels, the wheels wouldn't scale to something crazy like 26" or something crazy. It sits at a sensible height, too.

FWAKROOWYAEfYXC.thumb.jpg.92a9be63ba266ec62f6d13588833eaa8.jpg

The inside's lovely, too. I mean, there's a limit to what can be done at this scale, but there are suggestions of a gearstick and an appropriately deep-dish steering wheel, all colour-matched to the outside as would probably have been the case with the original.

FWAKPEcXgAEoL12.thumb.jpg.227d9d258ef77f3b1c4671215f086880.jpg

And there are opening bits. Or one, singular, anyway. With a gorgeously captured and accurately orange painted V8 engine lurking beneath. Really lovely stuff.

Perhaps best, though, is the weight that these things pack. They feel really substantial in the hand, moreso than Hotwheels.

Johnny Lightning is my new favourite brand of 1:64. Cheers, Tim!

A couple of purchases by me:

Firstly 1/18 Mercedes C36 AMG:

20220625_144257.thumb.jpg.f98146710df087d339f6ebbf61d6bb47.jpg

Now, some of you may remember correctly that I have posted this up very early on in this thread many years ago, it was posted along with a 1/18 black Peugeot 605. The only issue is, when I went to dig those cars out of my Mum's loft, I couldn't find it, along with 605, an Audi A6 estate and a 1/18 'Senna' Mercedes 190. I cannot think for the life  of if me who'd nick them. Both Mum and sis never went in the loft. The only people who ever did was myself, and some workmen some years back when the loft was being insulated and even then I took everything down before anyone went in the loft.

Anyway, I'm building my collection back up again, I've got a 1/18 Peugeot 605 and Mercedes C36.

This Merc C36 isn't in too bad in condition compared to worse examples going for more money.

Mercedes 190e Corgi:

20220625_143947.thumb.jpg.093e2c1f5a58f5a6ddf4209fd65a7e99.jpg

Until relatively recently I hadn't realised that Corgi had made a normal 190 as the ones I'd seen were the bodykitted ones.

When this arrived, both axles had popped out of their holders and the black paint on the door rubbing strips and handles had worn off. Plus it had marks on the front screen and roof, so clearly previously used as intended as a toy.

I drilled out the front rivets carefully not going in too far and managed to prise the base off. I carefully bent the base around where the axles are normally held in place as this opens the plastic acle holder to help pop them back into place.

The bending of the plastic base had nearly taken its toll as the rear part was ready to tear away but thankfully I'd got the axle back in before any further damage was done.

I clipped the base back on and took a black tipped pen to the rubbing strips and handles.

Now it rolls properly and looks more original.

I picked up this Dinky Porsche 914 a while back, I have a nicer one so it went in the project pile

2022-06-25_04-23-57.thumb.jpg.05222eee18aa51fa333ea87e7e14a5dc.jpg2022-06-25_04-24-07.thumb.jpg.166d4601879b9c82bb4dec323ed19346.jpg

Now, Dinky chose lovely cars to recreate in miniature, but I have to say their quality control was a bit hit and miss. This thing was really rough under the paint. Still, I got most of the lumps and bumps smoothed out and found a set of wheels off a newer 911. I really like a red interior with silver paint so colour choice was easy

A couple of recent charity shop finds -

Dinky Packard Clipper, very happy getting this for £4:

and a Karrier Chipperfield Circus booking office van for £3:

The place with the Karrier van had a massive box full of stuff in packets, so will have to keep on eye on what they put out. Some  boxed Corgi Chipperfield stuff from the 1990s was already on display, but you had to go on EBay for it. Can’t be doing with that nonsense.

Trying to be a bit selective - there were a LOT of die casts at the toy fair but prices were a fair bit higher than I'm used to. Think I got a fairly sensible haul

Let's have a look at some small cars. There were loads of Matchbox at the toy fair but not much for under £1 and most at £3-5. Found one guy with a big box of various makes at 3 for £2 and dug out some pretty clean examples
