I've had this Majorette Beetle for a few years but only just removed it from its blister ahead of some mods/paint. It's nicely done, don't think the wheels or colour suit it though

They've had a good go at an oval-window era dashboard too, plus it's nice to find the old wire suspension still being used, even if the base is plastic

Been trying to wean myself off Hot Wheels lately. Cost of living crisis and all that, not helped by having to fork out for two new Vanguards coming soon, that have been on back order since last year. Plus two very special purchases have been ordered,  that have been released for the 45th anniversary of a certain Ford-heavy British action drama series. So, the diecast budget is bare.

But while nipping in Morrisons on the way home, I saw fresh clipstrips! No new case stuff of course. Just doesn't happen around this way any more, even Smyth's and The Entertainer are a waste of time.

But it doesn't matter anyway, because I'm weaning myself off Hot Wheels.

I'm a weak man...

To be honest, I was so jubilant at snagging my second Sierra Cossie in the wild, I had to grab it....

And I just love the RX-3 casting. After it only being in the premium ranges for so long, I now have to go for every mainline release of it!

This was the star for me. After seeing it ages ago on one of the YouTube unboxing videos, it has been tooting my want horn somewhat.

It's a little cracker.

See, only got three though. It's a habit that takes a long time to kick...

Today's surprise grab-bag from beneath the bed - Corgi Volvo 700 Series Turbo.

I've had this one for well over thirty years now - I'm amazed it still looks as good as it does.

I really should see about finding a replacement box for it. I wish I hadn't chucked the original - but I was, like, eight at the time.

I bought the same Volvo but it came with a caravan when I was a kid from the legendary Corgi shop in Blackpool.

Picked up this Corgi Whizzwheels VW last weekend.

It suffered from broken suspension and the roof beacon was rattling around inside so it had to be drilled open.

Mid 70's I guess,and No I don't.

It’s probably* not tritium but luminous phone and watch dials and logos etc are interesting in the general way they continued to be used long after the radiation dangers were known.

This came to the door c/o @bunglebus with my Mum saying "aw whit the fuck have ye ordered now" 😂

What arrived, was this little Corgi Volvo 760 (?).

20220610_083533.thumb.jpg.39abf318edc7ff97ab1f4b91ab022d1b.jpg

I used to have a few of these; one in lighter silver, one like that, and one red. But I think the red one was my own doing with that can of Chilli Red paint I have somewhere. 😁

That's one of the best Corgi 1/36 models of the late 1980s. I loved 7 series models at the time as they were a popular car around the family area I lived in. I got an identical one from Woolworths in 1988 and have loved it ever since. Even although I got the 1/25 Polistil estate version for my birthday the following year, it didn't quite capture the essence of the real car like the Corgi. I especially like the separate indicator lenses as it would have been easy for Corgi to simply make them part of the headlight assembly.

I dug out an old photo of my die casts for a particular car with a rear seated driver position, as discussed recently in the Black and Whites thread.  The photo was taken in the late 1980s and turned out a bit fuzzy after scanning - the original was not great either.  Anyway, I've still got all of the items pictured. They are all safely wrapped and stored in boxes around the house. They rarely see the light of day.  I really should try to display them properly but my main display cabinet is occupied by aircraft.

I've had a half-formed plan for this Hot Wheels Beetle for a while, mainly sorting out the horrible wheel/stance situation

2022-06-10_12-04-13.thumb.jpg.a82d1715ebb24284be6380a26fa0c88e.jpg2022-06-10_12-07-53.thumb.jpg.ccd605a6345cd45a3e155252e2415eee.jpg

Well here it is. I couldn't live with the headlight either, they're just metal posts that stick up off the base so I chopped them off and fitted rhinestones. There is one detail really bugging me but I did my best...

Ref. my earlier post of today: I actually got off my backside and found the toy of a veteran car which had its driver behind the passenger cab (seat behind the cab and steering wheel on the roof).  It is a Charbens 'Old Crocks' series (No.12), 1905 Vauxhall Hansom Cab. It is missing its tinplate mudguards. The range existed from 1955 until the late 1960s.

I also photographed one or two other items which were wrapped up with it.  The racing cars were free gifts with 3d Jamboree bags which contained sweets and a toy. The Bentley, also plastic, was bought new ages ago (1960s probably). The two Humber Hawk saloons, one turquoise and one painted red, were free with Weetabix in the 1960s.  The Metropolitan was also free with a breakfast cereal around the same period.

Oh, very nice!

I'd usually overlook HWs with those awful white wheels as being beyond redemption, but that's a great transformation. The lick of yellow around the rims just makes it pop all the more.

Is it the windscreen - or the dashboard?

Cheers for digging those out, Ray - much as I love to see Lesney and Corgi toys, I'm fascinated by the also-rans and budget/ freebie toys that hardly ever seem to survive. Although the Hawks and the Metropolitan are pretty basic, I've never seen them before and they have a huge amount of charm to them.

I remember reading about the Charben's Old Crocks range years ago, but have seen very few of them in real life - your Vauxhall's in decent nick bar the mudguards, and it's a very unusual model. And those no-name plastic GP racers look nicely proportioned representations of their real-life counterparts, even if they were the equivalent of Happy Meal toys back in their day!

Great that you've kept them all, and thanks for sharing them!

These were a fearsome price a while ago, so I felt pretty chuffed to have picked it up for a fiver. Looking online now, you can have one delivered to your door for under £15 - so that's good news for me as I'd sooner not feel like I ought to sell this one!

Happy Friday, kids!
