I read somewhere the Glo Racers were manufactured by a company called Lash Tameron then licenced Lesney?

'Lash Tameron' sounds like the villain in a weird Anime movie

For a while now I've fancied doing a custom Speed Kings Mercury Commuter. I had a couple of spares so selected this one.

Matchbox Mercury Commuter customs

Matchbox had kindly already shaved the front door handles off, so I removed the rears to match as well as the COMMUTER badges, filled in the holes left from the roof rack and sorted out the casting lines

I also had to drill out the rivets holding the doors, don't like doing this but they were catching and would have ruined the paint

Slapped it on the deck over a set of slot mags I acquired from @DoctorRetroa while back, polished and detailed the bumpers grille and lights and gave it a lick of sparkly silver

I painted the interior a darker shade of red - just realised I should have done the door cards too, I'll sort that out later.

Oh and that Superfast Commuter up there ^ didn't escape getting the treatment, thought they'd make a nice matching pair

Once again, shaved handles and emblems and I booted the dogs out (sorry). Polished, detailed, slammed over Real Rider slot mags to match its big brother and painted the interior the same red

The Speed Kings ones can be found on eBay although the brand escapes me for now. They're not the best quality unfortunately.

The Superfast wears a set taken from a premium Hot Wheels

I had a bit for doing the customs as the outhouse is flipping cold and I still have to paint outdoors because my patented ex-trak-tor 3000 system isn't finished.

Somehow dodged the rain and wind long enough to paint those two, and another that's not finished just yet.

Got plenty more in various stages of work from sitting in a box to stripped ready to work on.

Roof donor for the pink colour trial Shovel Nose just got here

I think that them although those are 4 bolt and mine are 5

The fit of the axles into the wheels wasn't brilliant on my set

Now I think about it, I recall those slot mags were fitted to THAT 2CV that @Datsuncogunearthed one Tat Friday, seen here about to go off to pastures new

I think it went from DC to Doctor Retro, then to me then onto @flat4alfabut I retained the wheels. Think they're happier under the wagon.

Postie man comes bearing gifts.

Spotted this unusual Matchbox on the back of a gold K-13-2 transporter (the one that comes with a Mustang normally)

Need to do some research on that one

Another two I need to find out about are these pull-backs, I've previously found locomotives with the same logo on but no idea on the make *Edit* High Speed

This one I do recognise - Majorette Motor BMW M1

But what's this?

Lastly this - at first I thought it was someone's home made effort as I hadn't seen one with the light bar and paper stickers before, but it's legit right down to the original signs

You and me both!  I've even got some outside that received their first coat of paint some time last year, and are waiting for more.  They can wait, it's too bloody cold!

Heh, the wheels that were on the market tat 2CV pickup were nowhere near as nice when it left me!

Think the slot mags must have been @DoctorRetro's handiwork.

Great going on the pair of Commuters, they look so good refinished like that!

I like those small mira models but the axles are made from boiled sweets.

I had one, it was a Porsche 911 flat nose type thing though and came with a sort of wind up handle shaped like a ratchet.

I can't quite believe it, but someone sniped me on one of these Sze Toys No.70½ U.S. Vans recently.

Still, found this one with a couple of Tonka/Buddy L lorries cheaply enough 20220225_085036.thumb.jpg.c8a6d415bc4700e198abdb2ce8429009.jpg20220225_085044.thumb.jpg.e725fc44c96e05a00e1689b5b52dc774.jpg20220225_085052.thumb.jpg.f1f14b7d4457378ab36d47883fa7d8e2.jpg

Colour trial Shovel Nose casting is different where the roof hinges. Probably explains why it went missing

20220225_130346.jpg

Fits tho

Anything else different?

The incomplete date and lack of patent number on the base. I also have no way of knowing if the glass was orange, I've seen two other colour trials and one has clear glass. Might have a plan for that...

That one has the same casting as the production ones, but had the pre-pro base

Way back in September 2020 , @155V6kindly sent me a Dinky Big Cat body that I intended to make a base for and customise.

Dinky "Big Cat" Jaguar

In the end I sent it Flat4Alfa's way after finding a complete one on eBay. Then @Spottedlaurelfound another in a charity shop at the end of last year, so that got stripped

Dinky "Big Cat" Jaguar custom

I didn't want to paint it dark green like the Avengers car because everyone does that, so I did a lighter green with a fade into blue and some pearl over the top

Dinky "Big Cat" Jaguar custom

I kept looking at it for about a week and just didn't like it - so it got redone as a dark to light blue fade, very hard to capture it but the lower body is the same colour as the base

20220222_134130

Still doesn't look much different but it's obvious in person

I made new axles and spaced the wheels out as they look a bit lost on the original car. Bit of detail and Bob's your uncle

20220225_14485320220225_14490020220225_14490820220225_145055

Interior is grey with some black detail - very basic seats in these cars anyway.

Realised I forgot to chrome the number plate lamps before taking the pics but it's done now. Really happy with how it's turned out
