Shite in Miniature II

Just for a bit of perspective from the other side of the stall.

Back in 2013, I had to sell pretty much everything I owned due to a foul up by EDF energy and causing them to try and rectify their mistake by slapping me with a huge bill.

Anyway, I took what would have been about 1/2 to 3/4 of my entire collection, which would have been around 500 items, to the local Swapmeet where I had rented a table.

I was asked to arrive and set up at 11am, but the Swapmeet didn't open until 1pm. By around 12.30 or so, I had sold around half to other stall holders. They gave me more or less what I was asking for them and I genuinely  believed them when they told me it was for their own collection. Nothing reappeared on their stall apart from 1 bus (which stayed there for months). I could have packed up and left before it opened as I didnt sell nearly as much to the public later on. The same thing happened the next month too. Good for me, but I had to sympathise with the punters.

watch out for the Gazelled Avenger  😂

The GREEN ones are definitely Adidas Gazelle, with the old bare 'gum rubber' sole colour no less.  They are no longer in the current range with those soles.  I will have to admit I also own a pair in that Collegiate Green, unfortunately with the modern white outsole.

Untitled.jpg.c614474d8caa921341be89c2f5446ee9.jpg

But the BLUE are Adidas Nizza.  It's the stripe on the sole a third of the way down that identifies.  That stripe and positioning makes all the difference when you are the early-rising captain of a playworn diecast resale industry

Untitledm.jpg.2639575196cbcc59e74ed90351e27581.jpg

Perhaps it's more than a fashion statement.  It's a way of life.  Only on the AS SIMii thread can you appreciate the finer detail and ponder such nonsense.

He's had better Corgi Camaro SS models on the stall for a tenner in the past - though if all it needs is a repro windscreen, this could be worth it.

It needs the roof piece too.  But it looks tidy otherwise.  I probably should have said go get it even at a tenner.  Is it a Golden Jacks one not sure

Went into the archives and the one he in November 2019 was this one

Which sold for just a fiver...

November 2019 is such a long time ago.  The world has exploded since then.

Get out of the way, naked ladies - you're obscuring the diecast tat.

The two naked ladies to the right are models of the Little Mermaid that sits on a Copenhagen shoreline.  I saw it in the 'flesh' years back, shortly after the head was put back on after one of the many vandal attacks.  I've no idea she keeps getting attacked.

And for that reason, and also the daft reason that FB auto-block any images of it, I would like one if not too dear.  Next time please.

So what with my daughter off school, we had to give it a go on the garden table.

The accuracy of the modelled play-pieces is uncanny.  You can smell the nitro-methane if you get too close

I remember this - not for the game but for the tiny dragsters.

I also remember a kojak board game - the game was unremarkable but it came with tiny plastic cars that looked like AMC matadors.

I can imagine if you have a sizeable collection especially if it’s rare stuff that the money they command does tempt people to cash in and use the money to chip away at the mortgage or whatever. I doubt it be tempted though, my collection definitely falls into the category of ‘play worn’ so it’s enough for the enjoyment factor to outweigh its financial value.

Almost all of mine falls into the same bracket, although if I really tried, I'm sure I could make quite a bit of money on the 50-odd 1/18s I have now; but they give me so much pleasure!

You could pack it all in and get a couple of hundred quid and be bored to death in an evening so when you put it like that it’s an asset. Corgi 1/36 values are on the slide, acquired several over past 6 months, no more than £3 each paid for relatively presentable items.

After I bought the StreetKa from @Peter C a couple of weeks ago,I started looking for a 1/43 model. The Minichamps version is nice, but doesn't seem to come in blue, which was the colour I wanted.

A bit of eBay searching found one by High Speed with a buy now of £7.50,so I hit the button & it arrived yesterday.

Quite a nice model,I just need a Laguna Estate now to complete my real-life trio 😁

Those Hotwheels are only a few pound you tell your self when your out shopping, then next thing you know you spend £30 on a shelf off eBay 😆 actually it’s not bad, but it needed a sand and few coats of clear varnish so it’s dustable.

some new additions to the collection-

first off these, today is my 21st, again, and again, and a  bit more, birthday. so kerry has got me these.

the matchbox racing car transporter, along with the matchbox lotus and ferrari racing cars. sadly the ferrari has lost its driver, though Steve Flowers do carry one in their range, its in playworn condition, but the glazing, ramp and tail boards are present and correct. which is nice.

20210724_083930.thumb.jpg.2c1f0e5f331524c7c874c910788f2e31.jpg20210724_084031.thumb.jpg.33bbf1099726c4f87ce3e121e765fc0c.jpg20210724_084348.thumb.jpg.08ebc3341956600b1bc7b855b6cd2041.jpg

there was also this ERF stake wagon, which is in really nice shape, even more so considering how old it is, dating from the mid-1950s.

20210724_084051.thumb.jpg.e99f6ee44b2ad5e127b3bc77a83d8793.jpg

and recently i also bought these, the plantectnican removals van, complete with back roller shutter door. this  deserves new decals, which i have ordered, though have yet to arrive

20210724_084233.thumb.jpg.673fee491d91fde3805480ec7ceb5ea8.jpg20210724_084242.thumb.jpg.babfb37b92c7b940a5c0e1497e83c54b.jpg

i also got this, the Vauxhall Victor saloon, and a Bedford Wrecker Wagon. and an Austin A50 Cambridge. and a Ford Station Wagon,

20210724_084410.thumb.jpg.f67329c191ad8be4fa9f4980a5b1fdef.jpg

all are pretty early Matchbox 1-75 series toys, all from the first series of the these toys so date from the early 1950s.

the great things with these  diddy cars is that you can get loads of them in a display case!

I don't actively hunt for those early Matchbox models as they don't have any nostalgia for me - they're nice little things though, I have quite a few now - including that removal van - in far worse shape!

There's been a bit of Ford StreetKa love upthread, so I thought I'd join in.

Some years ago, eBay was full of 1/18 bargains, because the word on collectability hadn't got out. Today, everything costs £££ so I've gone totally cold turkey, but back then I used to set an eBay filter up at "max £15" and do a search for 1/18 and see what popped up... and up popped this:

E6VNm1bWUAYJp0y.thumb.jpeg.ba6c7063716b1ba4bb336109e39559cf.jpeg

It's by Welly – a brand that I really didn't have a clue about at the time, but I gather they've been churning out smaller-scale diecast rammle for donkeys years. I bought this on the basis that if a Ford StreetKa exists in 1/18 scale, I absolutely have to have it, no questions asked, and if it turns out to be any good that's a bonus.

It turned out to be any good.

E6VNoY0WEAIlCta.thumb.jpeg.5558e8bf8c441a70f03ebf78006f5c1f.jpeg

Possibly the wheels are on the large side, but there's nothing to get upset about with regards proportions. There's a bit of orange peel on the paint, but the coverage is even and the body is nicely cast, with none of the rough edges and stray moulding lines that Bburago serves up from time to time.

E6VOGqXXsAA3Tpn.thumb.jpeg.b3e7962c950e8d1a7220acab528d2381.jpeg

It's probably the interior that really sells it, though.

E6VNnY0WUAcIcpf.thumb.jpeg.d84b0ac3c593dfa55646004a07c7012a.jpeg

E6VOGUnXIAMZj9p.thumb.jpeg.b4c0d9d3d26d59190fa97beaffb05dcf.jpeg

My favourite detail is that, while the Model 5000 RDS stereo is accurately portrayed, with the cassette loading slot (no fancy-pants Model 6000 CD player here) and all the buttons in the right place, it's clear that the removable four-button security panel was missing from the prototype car at the time of modelling.  I wonder if the modelling team even realised.

And sticking to the prototype theme:

E6VNn3aXsAMjjvT.thumb.jpeg.1e0bddaeac0069d9d0c7665209244083.jpeg

Interesting to see the Rocam decal here; the Rocam (roller finger camshaft) engine was developed in Brazil and would go under the Duratec name when it arrived in Europe, so it looks like the Welly StreetKa was modelled on a pre-production machine.

So there we have it. Another 1/18 model from a relatively undistinguished brand, but which happens to be way, way better than you might expect.
