I must have blown £20 in fuel chasing Matchbox W123 Wagons in multiple Tescos across two counties now

Ghosty mentioned on the forum of wob that he’s been paying £1.20 for Matchbox...    however in my southernish town Tesco were £1.75 on Wednesday but I went in on Friday they were now at £1.80. But HW still at £1.50 though.

All I want is the elusive Merc W123 Wagon. But, no. Just Trekkers, '61 Rancheros and typical Camaros etc and that Banana car in abundance

Bollocks, I was in a big Tesco Extra earlier and I forgot to go and have a look in the toy aisle... yes, I'm also a frustrated participant in the Great W123 Hunt, on the other side of the Irish Sea.

If I manage to find a stash I'll grab them all and throw them out on here like sweeties.

I guess the metal kits are essentially an un-assembled standard model, The Transit, MK1 Escort and Moon Buggy certainly were

That's exactly what they were.  I had several, including the Transit and Escort.  If you bought the fully-built examples, you could tell which were engineered as kits because they were screwed together rather than riveted (a method less than entirely reliable, but good as a thumbnail guide).

I too have started going in those shops that have lots of Cavcraft spec Zafiras and Motobility Mokkas in the car park, just to find a W123 Merc. On the positive* side , I've seen some massive arses with leggings stretched to transparency point across inappropriate thongs, bought a few rattlecans for future diecast restos and got a Hotwheels Escort and Land Rover.

Here's my childhood Opel Commodore. I think this was a French Dinky Rekord Coupe jazzed up for the UK market.

I think we need the full rundown on this collection of Solido models..

Just out of curiosity I've looked in two Tescos in different towns this afternoon to see whether they have the Mercedes, nothing so far but there's another couple of large ones I can check locally. Haven't rummaged through new Matchboxes since about 1991..

Interesting, as both my long lost red MK1 transit and MK2 have screws - I just always thought that's how they came.

Not much new from Mrs. Postwoman this week other than this blackwall HW which is annoying missing the glass

This continues to frustrate me - getting a fade without speckles all other the other colour is a mare. Spotted some orange on the front wing on the other side - after I laquered it of course

I had loads of the Transits,(still got a few),& I've never seen one riveted together ?

Picked these up on the way home(£1.10 each),with them were the Chevy Caprice,VW Thing,a (Nissan?) bus thing,& a couple of 4x4 pickups. No Merc Estate, that must have been in an earlier mix so shouldn't think you'd find one now, unless somewhere has had an earlier box sitting on a shelf for a while ?.Has anyone looked in Asda recently?

Picked this up today, lovely book - I'd like to find the other two that cover the Superfast era and then post-82

I use this Nancy Schiffer one that covers both Regular Wheels and Superfast up to its 1983 publication date, had it since I started buying MIB Superfast back in 1991:

Similar style photos, but yours looks to have more variants shown.

If I said ‘Heller Cliclac’ what would you say?

Would you say ‘Mon dieu, avec les Renault Trafic modele reduits super!’ ?

Maybe not.

But here we have FOUR examples, two of which had been converted to 1/32 slot cars. The Ambulance has a roof bulb wired in. The Africa Safari one has two motors, driving independent axles; so has independent* 4WD, shocker.

The custom blue one is tacky mental and the bare one I am pondering to dress in ELF Tyrrell team livery, for the hell of it. Bought from eBay.fr for a few pounds; the intention is to also motorise them both...  when time is found

I’ll go now.

There’s another three actually, one covers the 69-82, next 82-92 then 93-94. I’d honestly get the Charlie Mack book that covers the lot though. It’s £30 but it’s the best.

I have a spare one that covers a lot of the 80’s cars along with Lledo if that’s any use to you?

Is that the Charlie Mack book that's one of four? Just to clarify

That is a lovely model, I particularly like the Quarter lights on the doors and just the right amount of play worn!

Same format but it’s Edward Force I think. It’s got an overview of the 82-90 cars. I’ll try routing it out. Posted your axles today should be with you end of week.

I've started setting my sights on some French Dinky stuff this evening, surely the cheaper end of the scale will one day appreciate?

Also, @Sudsprint, my current Solido lineup is something like this

Citroen LN

Mercedes W123

Peugeot 604

Matra Rancho

Citroen Visa

Peugeot 305, Police boxed and Orange unboxed.

Renault Super 5, unbelievably crude.

Lancia Beta Coupe.

Berliet Stradair

Citroen SM early issue

Renault 17

Renault 25

Peugeot 205 T16

Peugeot 504 Rally, someone has pulled the decals off and left a ton of residue sadly. I'm sure it can be cleaned up...

Not a huge amount, I've got a load on my hitlist so to speak but I can't really spend reems of money on diecasts for a little while...

That BTCC BMW is amazing, would love one of those. Did they do any of the other touring cars in 1:64 scale?

I remember having a matchbox Saab 9000 in racing livery (white body with red, yellow & orange stripes & number 22 on the bonnet & doors) - tho I dont think it was based on a genuine BTCC car.

I have the whizzwheels rover - which I prefer - but it is battered. Good ones are not cheap.
